Imagine school 600 years ago.
@@Bibibosh ..bet kids weren’t forced to wear masks😂
Catch that big rat that was the video!!
The painting from 1427 was the original mousetrap Monday!
nah. the painting was done on a wednesday. honest
Wood Whittling Wednesday
600 years of tradition
It looked like the rat was expecting to see a mouse there
It might be time to put a rat trap with the mouse snack.
That medieval mousetrap looks almost like a catapult. Hmmmm. Now there's an idea.
Mouse launcher
I think he did one that threw a mouse across the room
Rat-a-pult
Mouse trebuchets are superior
Me and brother made a chipmunk catapult when we were growing up. They seemed to enjoy it because they wouldn't even attempt to avoid it and we could launch the same chipmunk over and over and it would just keep coming back for more peanuts.
To Mr. Olmstead and students - well done! Hope you all enjoyed making the trap, as much as we liked watching it. 🐁
That rat seemed disappointed there was only the one mouse. I think it watched Monday's video and expected more.
If you modified that trap to make mouse pancakes, you could give them a little flip then reset for the next mouse.
I'm surprised where his head was that force didn't knock him out. Or break his head off.
Dude, I was literally at the Cloisters looking at the Mérode altarpiece this morning. Awesome coincidence
Always like seeing the homemade traps and historical ones. This trap is complicated but would be great in a society where metal was scarce.
I studied that triptych in high school art history! Great to see it again.
Did you see the speed that rat was going? 1 MPH (one mouse per hour)
I love the way the second Shawn leaves the the ghostly apparition of the mouse takes form and starts running around.
That boy wanted seconds! Awesome project and history. I love it. Nice vid Shawn.
It's nice to see that shop classes still exist some places. It's disappeared from many schools.
I will never look at a pancake the same way again...
Mouse traps has gotta be the peak of human creativity, never thought mouse traps could be so interesting but not a single one of these videos has failed to amaze me
Rat: "Dam, I thought I ordered mouse pancake today!!"
If he were a mouse pancake, you could give him a little flip.
That’s super cool! I do woodworking as my shop in high school too!
It interesting how traps has change and the thought put into them. But now, trap requires less material to make. Although,
Chinese copycats are the bigger pest.
There were very simple traps that required minimal material - for example, the rock and stick trap. The sort of trap demonstrated in this video would have been a trap many people would not have been able to afford or had access to in the 15th century.
that's a lot of carpentry for one mouse. I'm still into Mascal's or a rolling log/false floor bucket.
I'd love to see some more rat traps
Fascinating as always, thanks Shawn! We could have had Flatmouse Friday but I understand :-)
Shawn Woods will not rest until only native species are infesting his home. Had to keep it alive just in case it met the criteria.
Give that trigger a little flip! 4:47
Why does it feel as if every shop teacher is named Mr. Olmstead? I swear I had a "Mr. Olmstead" for ceramics shop back in Jr High.
I know, right? I was thinking "Olmstead... another one?..."
There's no "a" at the end of our Olmsted, so it's different 😂
2:25 teleporting mouse!
Nice to also see the discrimination between invasive and non invasive species, thank you for this video.
Excelente como todos tus vídeos, los he visto a todos, saludos desde la Ciudad de La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina
I thought the rat the came along was a kitten lmfao
this video deserves more views. highly underrated mousetrap monday imo.
It would be nice to be able to get the plans to make this trap do you have a link.
Nice one - That Rat took advantage with Aggression
That thing is impressive. I'll bet it's a real nice addition to your collection.
3:09 -- That mouse looked confused
That rat wanted seconds!
Mouse: oh goodie, a new jungle gym toy.
Great trap! too bad for the mouse, maybe you need to bait your rat traps with mice and get a two for one deal.
Great video too !!!
have a great day
That's an idea. wrap them up and put them in the freezer.
You need to make a mousetrap museum, I am Oregon as well so I'd visit. ;) Having problems with mice and rats I just caught a mouse by the tail in the living room, so figured youtube would have ways to catch them.
Cool class project!
Hi Shawn! Please do something for Australia🙏🙏🙏
Man, that would need to be one heck of a mousetrap!
One 5-gallon bucket of peanut oil, please.
@@iwanabana I'm pretty sure they'll need more than 5 gallons 🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀
That rat ran away like he just robbed a bank!
oh snap there is even a flip at the end!
1:54 do you eat those for breakfast Shawn???
Your pet mice must have *unionized and lawyered up.*
Interesting bit of history
Very cool!
Thy mouse, doth feedth, thy rat!
4:00 should setup all types of mouse traps and see how many you get in one night or something
I like to see the wildlife come after and eat the mice.. But could I make a small suggestion? How about a platform 6ft to 8ft to place the carcasses on to encourage other types of wildlife?
Keep up the great work!!
I like mouse pancakes.
I have an idea for a video. Do vibrating states and windchimes keep ground squirrels away. I read they do, but I kind of doubt it.
Nice
That's some beautiful wood
Nothing like mouse pancakes in the morning.
600 years!
600 years!
600 years!
600 years!
600 years!
The Rat again, really need to catch him with a trap outside.
Maybe set a trap with a mouse as bait
You should make a nutria giant trap at the beaver dam....pleaaase thatd be really cool to see you work on, its okay if you dont, but just givin ya some ideas
wow so cool
Most fun one in a while :)
2:13....until we set him free, or “set him free”☠️
Way cool
Hmmm Mouse Pancakes ..!
Cool
Replenishing the rat population with the mice population.
Caddy Shack just say-in !!
Try to catch that 🐀!
I wonder if a bigger version would be suitable for rats also..?
I don't see why not aye.?
Great idea. And an even bigger version might catch unwanted humans? Bait it with a twenty.
@@hunterhenryk Bait it with a 20 and ide end up catching myself!
Maybe the next step for this trap is to make it without screws and possibly nails. I don't think that screws were a thing in 1400, nails would have been made one at a time and might have made the mouse trap too expensive.
Build a larger version to catch the rat with a mouse bait.
How do you humanely dispatch the mice you catch?
He puts them in a beaker and uses CO2 to asphyxiate them.
my goodness i just realized i wasnt subscribed to you yet. ive been watching you for months now. i love your content and i really cant wait for it to get cold here again cause thats when the mice move from outside to inside around here. im gonna have an arsenal at my disposal this year. no more standard 99cent snap traps for me.
So effective the sabre-toothed mouse is now extinct
mmmmm mouse pancakes...... this looks like a marriage between a deadfall and a medieval siege machine... I wonder if you scaled it up if it would work on rats
A great trap, a 600 year old style.
awww man I wanted to see mouse pancakes
Might have to build a mouse trap now. Any excuse to work with wood right?
That's alot of damage
nice
"It shows Joseph making a mousetrap" So it's at least 2000 yr old 😁
What kind of motion camera do you use?
If the teacher built it with his students, I hope you didn’t wait several months to make this video, it’s summer vacation now lol. You could get a deal going where shop classes all over America build traps and send them to you, it would be awesome for everyone involved to see it on your channel but you’d need to get the videos out in a timely manner.
They made it at the end of the school year a few weeks ago. Then shipping time, then time to make the vid
I think that mouse had a headache for the rest of his life.
I don't doubt it. Fortunately, it passed soon after. You know, along with the mouse.
Heyyyyyy shawn
Time to catch the rats outside.
As always Shawn, gloves.
Hi
🆘 said the 🐀
Little bit longer video, please
Yay rat traps
Shawn do you use carbon dioxide to dispatch your rodents?
Ooooo cool
Shawn is breeding a super smart species of rodent via genetic reduction. 🐁 🐀 🧀
Uh... yeah, that was a R A T .
Tell me where you live so I know what types of ticks live around because I’m sort of scared
How do you humanely disposed them!
@Jacob Henley : With Carbon dioxide I seem to recall.
👍👍😎
and I'm pretty sure 600 years ago they ate rodents
Rat eating a mouse
What are the difference? idk
Mmmmmm.....mouse pancakes.
Mmmmm.. Mouse pancakes.
