Could you play the lyre horizontally down actually? For example like the Chinese guzheng?

Hi, Silvana. We are quite sure that you can do that, but in our point of view the horizontal lyre playing introduce more limits in the lyre playing than new possibilities.
On the other hand, there is at least one well-known lyre player who likes playing this way and we are aware of. His name is Luis Paniagua; a great musician with a completely different approach than what we see on the the ancient sources! :)
