It is possible that Kobe chose to settle the civil suit out of court because the time it would have spent going to court would have cost him more than just paying her off. He had already spent enough time in the criminal trial just for the girl to not want to testify anymore and the case to get thrown out so he probably was tired of dealing with her and Court.
