In our NMN and resveratrol trial we follow David Sinclair in taking Alpha Lipoic Acid.
We take ALA for its many benefits, and in this we are following people like Dr. David Sinclair, Dr. Mark Hyman, Ben Greenfield and Dave Asprey. Not to mention Dr. Denham Harmen one of the earliest pioneers in aging research.
In this video we discuss why we choose to take the supplement and what the benefits are. We look at some of these benefits and the scientific papers behind them.

. Improvement in lipid profile and glucose levels in blood
    . Reducing inflammatory markers

I had with great difficulty convincing my mother to take ALA she is 70 has diabetes and the related neuropathy and also another condition called transverse myelitus which has caused tearing in her spinal nerves and since then she has had chronic neuropathy. The Dr has put her on pregabalin/Lyrica for the last 7 years and although it helps with the pain greatly it comes with severe side effects including memory loss confusion excessive sleeping for hours on end. I convinced her to go on ALA for the last 1 month and she seems much better less confusion more energy and although she isnt the kind of person to admit it im quite sure it is helping with er neuropathy. she takes a 600mg capsule in the morning.

Very interesting presentation. Perhaps there are two other important reasons why ALA is important. The laboratory of Wayne Alexander (Emory University) published a comprehensive study of ALA able to induce PGC-1a which in-turn activates hTERT (enzyme that can add telomere length) in mouse arterial endothelial cells (published in Cell Reports). PGC1a is a known to induce mitrochondriogenesis. The abstract is given below. Also there was a publication of a study by Li Zi et al in high-fat fed rats that it inhibits mTOR-C1 which is critical in the aging pathway (rapamycin induces its antiaging effects through inhibiting mTOR-C1. I started taking ALA after reading these papers not because of its antioxidant effects, which even David Sinclair says is overrated,
Cellular senescence and organismal aging predispose age-related chronic diseases, such as neurodegenerative, metabolic, and cardiovascular disorders. These diseases emerge coincidently from elevated oxidative/electrophilic stress, inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, DNA damage, and telomere dysfunction and shortening. Mechanistic linkages
are incompletely understood. Here, we show that ablation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor g coactivator-1a (PGC-1a) accelerates vascular aging and atherosclerosis, coinciding with telomere dysfunction and shortening and DNA damage. PGC-1a deletion reduces expression and activity of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) and increases
p53 levels. Ectopic expression of PGC-1a coactivates TERT transcription and reverses telomere malfunction and DNA damage. Furthermore, alpha lipoic acid (ALA), a non-dispensablemitochondrial cofactor, upregulates PGC-1a-dependent TERT and the cytoprotective Nrf-2-mediated antioxidant/ electrophile-responsive element (ARE/ERE) signaling
cascades, and counteracts high-fat-dietinduced, age-dependent arteriopathy. These results illustrate the pivotal importance of PGC-1a in ameliorating senescence, aging, and associated chronic diseases, and may inform novel therapeutic approaches involving electrophilic specificity.

As someone who took the plunge with the L variant in the not so recent past, owing to pretty much all the favourable characteristics you rightly highlighted, I feel modestly validated in my decision.
Factor that in with so many of the products sold on CZcams adverts that are just a vehicle for parting people from their money, without living up to any of their lofty claims, this production shows that not all mainstream media claims are wholly fanciful.
Because if Germans have been using it favourably for so long, it's more likely than not to have that all important word - ethicasy. On that score, this vid scores highly.

Great, right? but what about the OTHER metals (iron, zinc, Mg, copper etc.) we need. Are these removed as well before they get to where the body needs them? At any rate, I've postponed my intake about 4 hours after taking any supplements or after eating anything so as not to disturb the metals getting to the bodily parts. What do you think?
