I have been keeping this breed of chicken for past last 8 years. They are an absolute delight. I am lucky as I live in the UK where the Cream Crested Chickens are a popular breed. They are a hardy chicken and friendly. I love their blue/green eggs. Such a pretty chicken too. Very easy to care for. Absolutely adore my chickens and would not be without them. The whole community take a keen interest too.

They are beautiful. Slightly bonkers and always the first to give alarm! They are certainly hardy hens and do well in our mild Scottish climate 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I’m a cream legbar owner, i want to stress how this is a free-ranging breed, they can do just fine in large enclosures but their true nature comes out when they are out foraging, they are not a « tame » breed, getting one to trust you to touch it is hard, and once they’re out catching one is nye-impossible so you have to bait them with food or wait for the sun to set. They are however some of the best foragers, excel at hiding from predators and are incredibly fast which make them hard to catch for foxes and raccoons. They do lay nice mint / light blue eggs And get along well with other breeds with different temperaments.

I absolutely love this breed !! they can be hard to find (especially in the U.S) but worth it if you can. I suggest a reputable breeder or hatchery- and be prepared to pay more. that will guarantee you get the breed characteristics, and their gorgeous blue eggs (!!)

Why wouldn’t you mention the beautiful sky blue eggs that most people keep this breed for?

My Cream Legbars are quickly becoming one of my favorite chicken breeds! They are great foragers and have so much personality! My rooster isn’t mean and the hens are so friendly! They are usually the first to run to me when I go outside and they don’t hesitate to eat out of my hand.

I have 2 of these lovely hens, and a legbar x marans, they are gorgeous. They are curious, but I do find them a little flighty and they are definitely drama queens!
