Love ebonite body pens. That you can also get an ebonite feed is a good option.
    Great review, David.

I’d agree the clip-less version looks best, really bringing full focus to the beautiful shape and finish. A great pen and can vouch for the ebonite feed - lovely flow.

Verrrrry good looking pen! Yes, the clip dies work well with this model, where it wouldn't with many other finishes. I think a lot of people will be a little unsure about paying so much for a pen with a steel nib, but I'm not into Gold, myself, so I think it works well.

In addition to all your usual standard review touch points, I really appreciated the map, as well as the numerous Wancher visual comparisons, including the clipless version. Nice getting to say hi to you at the DC show!

I'd be interested in how this one compares to the ensso ebonite you reviewed a month ago, especially since the ensso costs half as much.

Wancher stopped offering the ebonite feed with the 18k nibs some time ago, which is a shame. I ordered a Dream Sun Pillar with an 18k nib about two years back. Stunning pen but writes incredibly dry. Recently sent it off for a custom grind and tune and am going to look into replacing the plastic feed with an ebonite one. Imo the plastic feed really sticks out on such a gorgeous pen.

David, Historically, the Japanese writing instrument industry has coated ebonite pens with scores of layers of urushi lacquer to prevent oxidation of the ebonite. I used to own an early Pilot that even had a pocket clip coated in urushi instead of gold plate to keep the steel from rusting. Tsuge, the former sword factory that turned to making pens and, later, smoking pipes when swords were banned, even uses the stuff to protect the ebonite stems on their pipes. I was curious if you have any idea whether Wancher does this? It's good to see clips on Wancher pens. For a long time, I was skeptical of their pens because clips are sort of needed (by clumsy rubes from the Midwest like me anyway) to keep pens from rolling away and getting damaged when they hit the floor. Making it available as an option was a wise approach, however, as plenty of people do prefer the clean lines of a clipless design despite the minor inconvenience of having to be somewhat careful with such treasured possessions.

These spring mechanisms in the cap always fail after a while. I have an Esterbrook Estie and a Wancher Dream Pen and both failed after few weeks of use…

Love ebonite and love the matte color. Hate that step from grip to body..

The problem with clipless pens is that they fall out of your pocket too easily. You either have to leave them on your desk or carry them in a pouch. I prefer to have the clip attached to the pen.

Very good review, as usual. Only one remaining question: does it post? I would be interested to know.
