Can you give me a run down of the dual motor set up and why it’s used I seen on basher body’s page some one posted their baser rig with a dual motor set up and said it would handle more gearing and makes the esc work less is this true?
He was also only running a single 12s hobbywing esc
@@AnthraxxRc watch the video… I explain a couple of times 👍
I get the less stress on the drive train but I’m wanting to know about how two motors and one esc makes the system work less not the drive train the esc and motors being paired to one esc and how that’s done is it really as simple as splicing a b c wires into one plug and if doing so is that making the motors draw power more efficiently as they both spin so the esc isn’t pulling as many amps to get to said speed? I woulda asked the dude but Facebook is really sensitive now so I get blocked all the time lmao
@@AnthraxxRcthere Isn't just one ESC , there are two ESC'S in the twin motor configuration , what gave you the idea there was only one ESC 🤣 🤣 🤣 shows how much you don't listen , or even bother to look up the information for yourself which is clearly easy to find out for everyone to see 🤣 🤣 🤣
I'm 55 years old and watching your video's make's me feel like a little kid again lol
Dont worried the age that the only number sir
Ha,ha, I'm 52 and I'm always getting more of these things. Wife is 49 and she's worse than me. Ha,ha, enjoy mate.
That is because he's smart, sincere, speaks the truth regarding the quality of the products, and most importantly has fun. Im 46 years old, and I'm out there rippin RC's solo with a big ass smile on my face lol. We only live once bro.
I am 58 ,,,,a grand father I built them for fun lol bring your real life Ferrari and I race you 😂😂😂 if you never built a rc look for Tamiya RC built kid and let the inner kid in you out
theres plenty of people your age and over that play with them. at the end of the day, everyone is a child. all they do is put a mask on and try act older than they are! im 23 this year too. its awesome seeing older people interested
Drag and lift square with speed.
If you double the speed, you get 4 times the lift or in this case, down force on the wing.
On higher speed runs the downforce will rise rapidly as speed increases aiding traction and stability as the back end will be less affected by small chattery bumps.
A sweet spot on wing angle adjustment will help high speeds until drag takes over.
A flattened hand out of a car window at 70mph will lift the weight of your arm!
Loving the content Phil.
I love a bit of theory in the comments. I wish more people would read them :) Cheers David

@@ElCharvo Someone has already done it with an RC car here on CZcams. It's too light to actually work. Most things scaled down don't work very well.
I read them.@@TomleyRC
Make a vacuum car like the Chapril.
That wee car is awesome, love the 787B body and paint job!
Yeah, looks so good 👌
That thing looks awesome in the orange and green! Looks like a great start to a real speed run car
That thing is killer. Who would believe you could get dual motor set up for the price of a regular RC car. Looks sweet as pie.
Sick !!!!!!!!!!!! Rc car's are just getting cooler and cooler
Yes, agree
My favorite Tomley clip makes a return, bleep and all! I wonder if the tilting new wing will save the next cul-de-sac run?!
Haha… it’s a classic clip for sure. I’m sure the wheel marks are still on that curb as well 😅
@@TomleyRC A YT Short dedicated to the light buckets on these Rlaarlo beauties... may pay for that Amazon fog machine lol
Pretty amazing car, Phil! Really impressive indeed!!! 😃
Great ride and review!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I like the Stadium Blitzer in the background!
Always enjoy my American friends trying to correct my English...... :)
Haha.. yeah, I always get comments telling me to ‘speak proper English’ 😅
Big thumbs-up to any of those cars. They just look stunning!
Best runs I have seen! You have it dialed in Bravo!
Thanks dude. Certainly drives way better than the 917 👌
That wiring!!!!! It's not like Phil was an aviation electrician or anything....... 🤣🤣🤣
Got to say, what a fantastic professional quality video. Loved it, and once again (you git!) I'm tempted to buy one of your reviewed products. Awesome!
Thanks for the upload and have a great weekend 👍🍺🇬🇧
Loving your channel, here is a tip from me for you,if you have small cuts like that i suggest a fine line of superglue which is waterproof, food safe,
will stay on until dead skin falls off. As a Cook i be using supaglue for over 20 years and its the best bandaid there is.Also i recommend putting it in the freezer after opening the tube so it doesnt set(harden)😂😂
Sometimes with dual motor setups, clocking the rotation of one of the motors one tooth at a time untill you find the smoothest launch, then as long as you dont strip a gear/jump s tooth it should stay synced untill you unmesh them
Tomley the aircraft sparky ;D fellow maintainer and RC enthusiast

5:49 psst, Kevin might hear that and get confused again
🤣
That's a great price point for what you're getting. I'm really curious to see this car unwind on 4S geared up!
Toe out is for drifting and slow speed curbing, toe in is for straight line stability at high speed, but too much toe in will cost you speed and tire wear.
Nice! Made a dual brushless buggy 10 years ago and it was an awesome tyre shredder...
Oh go on then, you’ve finally made me buckle! 😂 I’ve gone for the basic version though, plenty fast enough for the road outside my house. I’ve got the AM-X12 as well, been impressed with that so looking forward to this AK-787 turning up.
I hear ya on the space to run these. There is nowhere to run my AK-917 at full speed where I live. The smooth roads are either busy or don't have a straight stretch longer than 200 feet, and the straight roads are beat to hell, cracked and patched, and/or covered in gravel. The parking lots aren't much better either lol. The joys of living in the mountains in BC Canada. It is still a blast to run when and where I can though. I just know I'm not gonna hit anywhere near the 100mph mark with it
Awesome car for the money I'd say. The bit about the wiring.. I totally get, too. It looks like you found the answer to the motor sync issue which sounds correct to me. Getting that mesh just right is critical.
Love those on-boards sir!! Need the rain to quit to run my joouhl motor beast!
I went out with the Gorgon today... wettest day of the year so far, flooding everywhere.... crazy day haha. Luckily I had a small window this weekend just gone to get these runs in
@@TomleyRC 👍👍
That Phil Tomley's done it again, right outta the park.
Those are some beautiful and iconic bodies. Solid looking cars.
Looks similar to an XJ 220 my dad worked for a jag race team I want one of these. RIP dad.
im considering this car- thanks for the video, much appreciated
That's a bishin little car! For speed runs, you want with toe in or neutral. Toe out will make it squirrely. A gyro is a must for serious speed runs over 100mph. People have issues with it going straight because most people who buy them have no clue how to set up an rc car. It's mostly bashers who get the itch for speed. They also do it on real dusty roads with the wrong tires. You can make any decent RC car track straight if you have knowledge of setup and tire compounds. Great video as always Phil.
That looks flippin' awesome. 😎👍🏻
I agree 👌
the detail on that 787 is amazing!
Agree 👌
Great video again. I’d love one but it would end up living on the shelf as I have nowhere local to run it! Don’t worry about the wiring I’ve been a vehicle electrician for 40yrs and my own stuff is awful 😂😂 but a million miles away from avionics!
It’s awesome my friend
I did not even notice the pronunciation of duel until you mentioned it. Go find someone from the East Coast USA and ask them to say "roof" - they say "ruf". Same thing.
I cried for two reasons when they announced this on their site. 1 I've been dreaming of a dual motor (1/5-1/8th preferably a motor in front and back like my Old radio shack rc) the second the price 500, although it gives me ideas
Looks solid! 👍🏻
Lets put some big rock tires on this bad boy...just put longer arms....😊
Really enjoyed as normal.
A really cool car.
Thanks dude
Looks great
great video, Phil!
Great project and vid 👍🏻👍🏻
Gorgeous cars 👍👍
I admit I’m not much into road cars mostly because there just isn’t many places close around me to use such a car with this sort of speed. Still, being nearly as old as the arguably oldest r/c car (Electric Giocattoli), seeing the first twin brushless r/c is pretty amazing to me and I may have to get one at some point. I do prefer the 917 body but maybe that would be an option in the future, win win. Also, jewel/ dual? I honestly never caught it until you mentioned it. Great review as always. Have fun and enjoy your day!
It has taken me a while to find a use case for this car - let's be real, most of us aren't going to speed run this thing daily or even weekly - so why set it up exclusively for what will be useless most of the time?. I've taken a Mamba X esc and a 1512 1800kv castle creations sensored motor (drilled, tapped, flipped motor mount) and with some aggressive gearing it gives me the best of both worlds. I've also played around with the geometry of the suspension and steering and chosen something that allows the car to be relatively stable at speed, but also predictable and reactive to steering inputs. If I want to hoon it I can stick to 3S and 4S and work on handing, power sliding, drifting and such. If I want to do speed runs and break different parts of the vehicle - 6S will get me into uncomfortably fast territory very, very quickly (with a shiny gold pinion still in the drawer and 8S if I want to get that nasty MMX8 esc...).
So - get yourself a roller (917 carbon). Get a decent esc capable of 6S or higher. By yourself a decent motor every so often as a treat. Get some great small er 3S and 4S batteries with adapters allowing you to use them to either double C-ratings, voltage, capacity depending on needs. And, set aside a parts budget.
@@DESOUSAB A lot of good advice there. I appreciate that, thank you!
@@AandB1998 I'm just a chimp most days. I break something almost every time out on account of my own stupidity, aggressiveness and/or (usually "and") poor decision making skills. So, take advice at your own risk.
@@DESOUSAB lol…aren’t we all just a tad your above mentioned. I’m usually fine most times but ancestry (Cro-Magnon) behavior is most common with skate park blasts and the occasional off road mayhem. Thanks for the warning..lol.
Pretty damg cool 🔥
I'm starting to pay notice to Rlaarlo, that "Ford GT" thingie you showed before looked pretty tasty too!.. anyways.. gonna go watch this!
Fair enough, we would say dool motor in the southern u.s. haha
Road Eater , It's a rocket, built great !!!
Smart move on waiting to find a better place to run 4S... Salute!
It was interesting to learn that dual motors re not necessarily faster without some other changes. The car really ran straight. I wonder if the gyro helped that?
Yeah, it just allows you to increase gearing and/or volts because the load is being shared
thats what a Horsepower is, its not jsut the power but how quickly you can apply it. Adding more motors doesnt make them faster, just makes them more efficient
Someone on Reddit told me it’ll do 200+mph out of the box. I’m still waiting on that one lol
Haha… yeah… next video 😅
yeeeeeesh. out of price range out of mind. even though i would love a 787B RC car :(
that thing is gonna break their website lol
If we're taking pronunciation Phil... say 'seen' and 'sin'.... much difference? 😂 Love you dude, really enjoy your videos. A world I'm very much into atm.and you're helping me out greatly 👍 😊 keep up the hard work!
Great Review!
Nice!!! Mines on pre order. Hopefully get it soon as I was one of the first few to place an order before general release. (I got an invite!! 😀)
🤞🏻
They lokk amazing! Doesnt look cheap at all if we didnt know the price of them already. I hope they will create both drift cars and rally cars in the future too.
Hi tomley RC brilliant video that is very fast when mine comes this week or the other week. I'm running it on stock gearing for now but will upgrade to the dual motor like yours has Rlaarlo has sent me a free gift 1 pk of form wheels and dual motor mounts very nice can't wait 😀👍😊
Man I remember changing the brushes on my motor lol
I've gone and ordered the $499 dual motor carbon fibre 787. It was supposed to be dispatched on the 16th Nov, but it's delayed to the end of the month, so they can check the quality and make sure everything's 100%. It looks like your feedback about the cogging did the trick 😅
7:41 that's the same issue that used to happen on boats with 2 engines.....then they came out with engine syncros so each engine is rev matched perfectly. Now there are times when you want to turn it off because the proper way to steer a 45 footer in tight quarters is using the throttles not the helm.
You can also use it to counter cross winds that want to push your boat off the centre line....not an issue with R/C cars though haha
(just a bit of trivia)
Yeah, would have been good if I could have calibrated the ESCs. Although made me fine tune my meshing skills 😅
I've got a Flysky Noble remote. It allows me control over all sorts of motor timing aspects in a dual mode setup, Can be used to great advantage crawling a dual motor rig like my RC4WD Bully II or a dual motor setup like this one...
Nice video (and vehicle)!
Thank you
5:57 Cool car👍 2s inn Seri is 14,8v 2s inn Paralell is 7,4v
The wing should be more than a gimmick! If it’s setup to rise under braking it will improve higher speed driving! I’ve got shepherd 1/8th road car converted to brushless and I made an active rear spoiler for it that’s very similar to this! the shepherd wing lay’s flat for full throttle and stands up under braking it’s set up for speed run’s and still use’s disc brakes! combined with the wing it makes a ridiculous amount of improvement especially in deceleration!
Tomley mate I'll be totally honest with you to start with i thought you were a dick for what went on between you and Kev Talbot but now i got huge respect for you and absolutely love your content because what mostly do is in reach of anyone. That twin motor is so so sick. I'll definitely be investing in one asap. Thanks dude
Cheers dude. I’ve had it most of my life… people think I’m a Dick until they get to know me better. All the Kev stuff was blown way out of proportion by a select few, I’m just glad we were able to sort our differences out 👌
Just got mine. Mesh was tight on one side and loose on the other. Pinions did not have loctite on them. I ran it out of the box for a few minutes (nothing crazy) and one of the pinions fell off. The other pinion wasn't secured either and my spur gear was damaged. Very cool car, though. Looking forward to setting this up for bashing/ massive power slides.
Should put it on your corner scales dial it right in.
I did, but that bit of the video didn’t really add any value as it was pretty much 50/50. Just corner to corner needs tweaking
Good vid as usual
Cheers dude
looks pretty rapid that fair play bud 👍
Yeah, loads more in it!
Cant‘t wait to get mine 😊
2 motor baby. Yeah
Yeah Boi….
That's insane for an RTR 😮
This is insane. While I love I can buy this, I fear someone is going to get hurt and that the rc car industry will follow a similar path to that of electronic scooters. The authorities weren't paying any attention until stuff got stupid and people started to land in the hospitals. This car in my hands?? My neighbours better get into their basements.
Go run it to the place where you ran the Infraction with the NASCAR body! Great place!
Duel boaring! Single Nitro BABY!! NITRO GANG!!! Sickening!!
NO REVERSE IS BOARING ..U get very over it very quickly ..15-20 years ago I would agree but modern day battery's and motors make nitro look stupid now ...I made my own 4p2s battery from used 18650s and my old TRAXXIS vintage brushed motor does 50kph for almost 30 mins on that battery ..compared to the 8-10 that the nicad would do while dipping more every lap ..what's going to happen when the next generation of batteries is out ...nitro stinks .it's expensive and dangerous and U EAT glow plugs and the horrid tourque curve of nitro EATS your running gear ...and the noise gives me a headache after awhile ..the funes are highly toxic and cause very ill effects to your body
U still have to run a battery for your radio and U have to stop and fuel it up as often as a battery change anyway
Have you done a gear mesh tutorial? Because what a difference!
There should be an RC brand that offers configuration orders where you choose components from drop down menus
The body is looking pretty sharp😂🤙
Im debating between this car and the infraction. Which has similiar speeds. Whats your thoughts? Would love to do parking lot bashing but also do speed runs.
Put a strip of regular paper between the gears, push the gears together and tighten the motor screws. Remove paper and you will have the good gear mesh.
Very cool car- can't believe it hit 71. Great review ‼️👍👍🦾🦾🤘🤘
Well they have my attention 😂
Youve got Aussie fans too mate, we pronounce it "jool" as well.
I could have fun with these. Racing would be too cool.
The correct term you're looking for is adding 2 motors adds TORQUE
Anyone else here remember the OFNA Twin Titan or Kyosho Giga Crusher? Dual-engine nitro monster trucks. That was back when every brand was coming out with a monster truck designed to be bigger and more powerful than the last.
Whats the max motor size that you can fit? Im planning to do a speed build with this, and i wanna max out on the motor.
Both are beautiful body's
love that 90's road car look
Yeah, it’s so nice
THANKS ALOT I want one to add to my growing collection, and I BLAME YOU SIR!
Ive built multiple dual motor brushless rc cars like 15 years ago and they have been around for a long time this is not the first but good video none the less
First Brushless RTR ;)
Anybody can use one hand to fling it around in an open carpark compared to a straight line is very different 😊
uncensored esc / motors all cog at slow speeds because they don't have the sensor to know where the stator is at and it has to just power up randomly till it catches the right sequence. that is why crawler motors are sensored ;)
Nice, very nice, your cable work looks just like i would do ha ha
All time favorite moment, "oh shit"
We've all been there.
Put two beefy brushed motors and speed controllers in it and create a new category for the speedruns, lol!
Its so awesome it decided to take a nip at ya haha
Haha
Calibration is always worth a shot but I would suspect the motor/esc combo being sensorless as the cause of the cogging issue, just an inherent issue of a lack of a sensor cable.
Yes and no. There are other ways to get smooth starts without cogging and without a sensor cable. For example - an unsensored 14pole motor will do quite nicely on a 1/10th crawler. However, there is alot of innovation in the crawler world. Nobody is really doing much in a programmatic manner for speed runners though...
Looks like your very close to the pride of lincoln 😂
I've got the Stranger Things Timex watch too. Nice 👌. The car is super cool too.
Nice! I've got a few Timex watches. The Pac-Man is my favourite
Next time an American laughs at you saying duel and makes the jewel comment, just ask them to say chassis correctly, bet anything they can't 😅😅😅
Just bring up the correct aluminium vs their missing letter abomination.
@@derekhobbs1102 or get them to say Tamiya (though a lot say it right ) it makes me laugh how many different pronunciations you here when watching various rc channels.
Obviously there are some words that Brits and Americans say differently BUT it's usually the British way or the American way ,with Tamiya I must have heard about five different American pronunciations. 😂
P.S PLEASE DON'T take any offence people, it's only meant in jest,i lived in San Jose for 7 years and loved it,I'm not hating on America I swear
Is it possible to mix the rear wing with the throttle? So you can get like an air brake effect or DRS? That'd be cool
Yes, I showed that on my review video of the cheaper one. Easy to do 👍
