- Way back in 1990, McDonalds released the McDino Changeables, hilariously rubbish transforming toys made to look like McDonalds food products. Ellen found her collection and decided to show them off to Luke to get his opinion on them. Can Luke transform them? What will he think of them? Watch to find out!

I found a friceratops at school, and I loved it. I showed it to my mum when I got home, and she said that it wasn't mine, and I had to return it to the person who lost it. The next day I was told to go around the other classrooms and say that I had found the friceratops, and ask if it belonged to anyone. The first classroom I went to, a boy put his hand up immediately, saying it was his. I knew instantly he was lying, but what could I do? I handed over my beloved friceratops, and trudged despondently back to my classroom. That was thirty years ago, and I'm still not over it. Worst school I ever taught at.
I remember having the fries amd the chicken nuggets, they were great!
Seriously the logic is beyond ignorant. I get the intent, to return a lost toy, but 1. Sometimes it’s not even lost but 2. even if it was, no duh the first kid who wants it is going to claim it’s theirs. What is wrong with adults? “Oh you found a toy? Go tell other children what you found by name.” like damn just tell your kid to give it to a random child at that point, or better yet, JUST LET THEM KEEP IT. Not to mention schools usually have lost and found if they’re that worried about it, or tell your kid NOT to say what the item was, just that it was found.
I just read the last line properly and you made me mad for nothing
U got me mate 😂
XD was not expecting that punchline, no notes.
Did I think I needed a video of Luke and Ellen rating McDonald’s toys? No. Was I wrong. Yes. So much fun!
They exude such siblings energy.
Exactly my thought looking at the title. Watching now expecting to be quite surprised. I had the toy in the thumbnail so I’m hooked.
The shouts of "It's Egbert!" Made me laugh out loud this morning watching this 😂
The "Fried Egg-bert" made me lol Very punny!
Luke saying the 90's was a complicated time is both honest and harrowing.
Having lived through it (born in 85, so perhaps forming memories is a more accurate way of describing it) and he nailed it in one there tbqh
I think I have the first one somewhere too! The most upsetting part of this is that they used Triceratops twice as the basis for a name. I can only hope they came up with 'Tri-shake-atops' first and then thought "no, come on, we can do better than that."
I was thinking maybe that's what the three-pronged organ was for, to justify the name. 😂
The day that Oxtra pivoted to being a toy review channel (but exclusively for bad happy meal ones)
Luke’s characterization of a McDonald’s exec in 1990 is so on point that he may or may not even know how on point he actually is. Probably he DOES, but can’t actually say it because they’ll get demonetized.
Glad Ellen got to share something from her childhood. I bet the pun names were a bonus
Luke losing it repeatedly at everything about these toys was the most fun I've had in days!
That Ice Cream one looks like a bulb of garlic on top of a cone. The unbridled joy that Ellen took in Luke's frustration in learning how to transform the figures was also delightful
This might be my favorite episode yet 😂 I remember those toys and your reviews are not wrong. But I still thought they were cool af when I was 6. They were Transformers/Dinosaurs!!!
The hotcake package/pterodactyl was the best one. There was also a drink cup, but I forget what that became.
Somehow the ones we got in Australia were way better... I mean, they were still hot garbage, but still better than whatever the hell these ones were 🤪
When McDonalds made the switch to healthy happy meals they missed an easy tie-in. All they had to do was put googly eyes on the carrot sticks, and they could have claimed it was a Rare/Rareware tie in.
You know some american kid will choke on the eyes and their parent will sue Mcdonald's
Hahaha that's friggin hilarious that you think any American child is gonna eat a carrot stick 😂😂😂😂
@@WhatTheFirstAidSprayMaybe if they wrote "plastic" so we at least know it's edible..
Sir Keradin of the Bulb.
I remember my dad had a couple of these (the Happy Meal and burger ones). I also didn't expect to hear the term "three pronged mating organ" when I woke up today
11:09 Luke:''(...) It keeps going''....'Toy clicks beyond limit'....Ellen: "I don't think it's supposed to be going''
The look of fear on Luke's face when the toy 'clicked', and he thought he had broken Ellen's vintage toy was just so 😂(Ellen's reaction to it too was priceless, glad no toy were harmed during the make of this video)
I love when Luke starts singing songs from musicals out of nowhere XD
God, I remember those toys, they were the worst! And they broke so easily too!
Being sleep deprived makes this so much funnier lol
This was the best, and I would totally be down for more McDonalds’ Happy Meal toy reviews.
Also, hearing Ellen switch to an American accent to disdainfully exclaim “dive barrrr” was devastating and hilarious. 😂
I'm sorry, McDinocone was clearly the best one and I can't be the only one thinking it. It looked like he was breaking out of an egg. Justice for McDinocone
he was definitely better than tri-shake-tops or whatever that abominations name was.
I also liked McDinocone! They had a mechanism… a mechanism! But Egbert won because of nepotism. 😞
When they came out it and the nugget one were the best 2.
Yes! I like it because you can pretend there's a real baby dinosaur in there. Not a dino-McDonalds fusion abomination.
I laughed so hard at "Hopefully this doesn't have a horrible face. Its Eggbert!"
"What's this ketchup made from?"
"Orphans, boss."
I would genuinely enjoy more of this!
agreed
Yes, I would, too! I remember Mum buying Happy Meals for my brother and I when we went shopping in Sheffield. Our collection was big enough to fill one orange box, which originally had a selection of Safeway crisp packets it. Not sure whether we still have the box, but I would love Oxtra to do a sequel to this called Best Happy Meal Toys Ever for a future episode! 😊
"If you would have told me there were 2 worse than this, I would have thrown up" and "I have really enjoyed this. Please get them out of my sight." That just made my night 😂
The nostalgia is strong with this episode
The joy you people bring to the world is just too great
Petition for "fried Egbert" merch! Possibly including Prudence toasting a marshmallow nearby 🤔
I have to say watching Ellen and Luke who are clearly best of friends having fun with one another is one of my favourite pastimes. Two friends who clearly love each other very much are having fun and inviting us to partake in their games feels like a real privilege. You guys are wonderful, it's like watching children play together with their first friends. I bet your parents watch this and weep with joy at how happy you are. Thanks a bunch
Luke's face every time he revealed one of the dino heads cracked me up. I vaguely remember having these as a kid! Great video you guys 😁
You know after all this time, I am so glad that you have never changed that intro. Please don't its perfect lol.
I dream of the London Symphonic doing an over the top version for the channel's 20th anniversary. But yes, this version needs to stay!
There was another set of these Happy Meals toys before the dinosaur set that did transform into 'robots'. I had one that transformed from a robot into a Hot Cakes and Sausage container. They sold pretty well, from what I remember. I wasn't able to get the entire set though.
They sell for decent money now too especially if in the package but why any kid would have left them in the bag is beyond me
I was just wondering if the robot ones I had were a US thing because those are the ones that we have.
@@WrackPharmd they were older ones
I had to look it up because I has having an existential crisis because they were all wrong when they transformed, and the ones I remembered were definitely before the 90's. Turns out there were 3 runs. This was the third, the first two runs were different, and the third was the one they showed. So Congratulations Luke and Ellen, you made me do research on 1980's and 1990's happy meal toys, I hope they're happy.
The late 80s were the best time for Happy Meal toys. We had muppets riding bikes, cars and a rocking horse.
I had those McDino changeables. They were great...we didnt have the happy meal those, just the fries, burgers, drink... happy happy memories!
Having a late breakfast and watching show of the weekend is what makes it feel like it IS the weekend for me ✨
Yeah. I feel it too 😊
Well! This was a transformative experience.
(Rim shot)
Ellen showing her early nerd cred by hanging on to these collectable toys. I mean, I assume they were meant to be collected, right?
I'm sure they'll be worth millions some day!
"...and here is our first draft for the new Toys!"
"Yeah sure whatever, approved. Now excuse me, I'm meeting Michael Eisner down at the golf club"
This reminds me of my childhood so much! It was basically all "We have Transformers at home" type stuff.
7:56 Luke losing it at the name will never not be funny. I thought there’d be a clip at the end there where he hadn’t stopped laughing.
These two are always such a treasure.
I had the even older versions of these, when they were still trying to look like robots (I think they were a tie in to the 1986 Gobots Movie). They just looked like nightmare versions of Aqua Teen Hunger Force... And they couldn't even be bothered to reuse the existing Gobot named "Nugget". On a more fun note, I went to a Vintage Toy Show where one vendor had three huge picnic tables full of plastic tubs filled with old Happy Meal toys. That was an oddly pleasant nostalgia overload, until I looked at the date on the bottom of a Fraggle Rock Racer and realized that I'd last held one 30+ years ago...
We're still young. Don't let the math fool you.
Maths is absolutely going to fool me because I am five thousand years old and my brain is all sawdust and moss
Ellen saying "Dive BARRR" 😂😂😂
Thanks for unlocking those childhood memories for me. I had completely forgotten these were a thing! I had several of the US variants as a kid! They seemed a lot more fun back then lol
The happiness I felt when Luke shouted "It's Egbert!"
This video unlocked memories I didn’t know I had! I owned 3 of these little guys, my favorite being the fries because that was my favorite menu item as a little kid. Thank you for this video OXtra!
When I was six years old, my family moved to America, and Return of the Jedi came out. Burger King had these RotJ drink cups that were the ultra-littest thing ever. Happy Meal toys were never able to turn my head after those Jedi cups.
Wow, got hard hit by nostalgia thanks to this episode.
There is actually one more to the collection: the burger. And tbh, that’s always been my favourite one, closely followed by the fries. Though I might need to rethink that assessment, now that I know that the fries turn into Egbert…
my fave was the ptero-dactyl looking one. 'cause it folds out of the box shape.
Also I'm pretty sure Luke posed the fry one wrong.
agreed!@@marhawkman303
@@marhawkman303 Yeah, it folded out of the hotcakes box, that one was cool!
This is an incredible chain of Luke trolling Jon with Transformers slander and then Ellen trolling Luke with incredibly detailed dinosaurs that are so factually realistic.
Is this the start of a new series?! I'm all for it! 🎉😂
"They're a pack animal". Hahaha.
Your McScientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could... that they didn't stop to think if they should... 😂
They actually had two lines of these - the original was a robots line released in the late '80s, really trying to capitalize on the popularity of Transformers and Go-Bots. Frankly, I was a fan. Only the Lego Happy Meals with ACTUAL LEGO topped these. 😎👍
Wow this takes me back!!! Still have mine too Ellen. Can't wait to see if you do another one of these.
That's all you got?! Track down the rest lol that hot cakes and sausage one would have blew his mind 😂
alright jon, time to SPILL. what's your collection? CHUG? studio series?? what's your holy grail? what's your stance on shellformers? give jon a transformers power hour now!!
He probably has the actual Transformer happy meal toys.
This brought me right back to my childhood... and, as much as "grumpy old flossman" wants to be grumpy... I loved this. ❤ The memories were fantastic and the show was the same.
They food transformers were not rubbish - they were my favourite Happy Meal toys! (Far more interesting than just another batch of monopose toys from yet another Disney tie-in Happy Meal promotion...)
Although the ones I liked were the robots rather than the dinos…
I remember the robot ones being pretty legit, but…just _look_ at the milkshake dino. Please. I can’t any more.
Yeah these were non-marketing toys from back when McD still made original toys.
@@beesforbreakfast Indeed!
Yep, transforming happy meal toys were the top-tier stuff, everything else was just molded rubber nonsense.
Point of Order Jon!
Megatron DID shoot a bullet in the G1 Marvel comics! He'd suffered a head injury that took away his free will, got wielded by a small time crook (only firing lasers) who used him to become a mob boss, thrown away by said crook during a fight, had the impact from said throw jar his internal mechanisms loose enough to both fire a normal bullet and restore/reset his mental faculties.
Edit: Luke? The Happy Meal isn't a dragon, it's a Red Yoshi.
“What’s this, McD?” Probably thousands of pounds on eBay, Luke.
Holy crap this brought back a lot of nostalgia for me lol I remember having the ice cream and fry box toys. Had totally forgotten about them until I saw this. Going to have to look for them now 😂
Great video yall! Love you guys!
I really want to see Mike’s reaction to the Egbert fries!
I think that they have served there true purpose "laughter and happiness" in that 8-10/10. As toys? You were generous using a 5 scale, keep the numbers and use a 10 scale and you've got it.
9:39 Johnny, watching this video: _Write that down, write that down!_
I had these as a kid and I don't think I've thought of them until now, thank you for the amazing nostalgia.
I wonder how Luke would've like the Hot Cakes Pterodactyl. That one was probably one of the best in that set.
I can't believe you keeped your happy meal toys for more than five minutes, yet again I still have this mini lightsaber, which is probably the most high quality item I ever got in a happy meal.
As easy as these are to make fun of, the toys today are worse. Such half-arsed crap to tie into whichever bad movie they want your kid to go see.
Oh my God, the fryformer! I actually remember having that! Best start to the day ever!
I knew there was a (nother) reason why I loved Jon. Transformers fans, unite! (much like Devastator)
every moment of this was an unexpected left turn. Probably one of my favorite Show of the Weekends in a while...every moment was just so unexpected
I'd like to see Luke try and tackle the Jurassic Park Transformers Collaborative figures XD
Also in recent years, Transformers did a series called 'Bot-Bots' where 'bots were created when a piece of Allspark landed in a shopping mall and they were created from all kinds of everyday items; kitchen hardware, houseplants, sports balls, toilets, etc. And foodstuffs were there too, so this happy meal range was like a 'precursor' to the Bot-Bots XD
This is slowly unlocking some long-repressed childhood memories. Damn you both!
Now I'm just dreaming of an unfortunate event happening once again to our beloved eggbert to transform him into fried-bert
Only at 4:00 and already in love with the Big Drak ™️
I think y'all should do more videos like this to I love yalls content
I love the fact that Luke catches himself a second after saying "That makes sense" and rightly corrects himself 🤣🤣🤣
Also, they can call Grimace a "tastebud" all they want we all know what Grimace is and it's not for discussion in polite company.
Thank you for the nostalgia kick and also for telling us some of the backstory with that ad! I had several of these toys and had forgotten all about them!
I would love to see more videos of luke and Ellen reviewing mcdonalds toys
Ellen's excitement always makes me day ❤️
The "its a pack animal" pun made me laugh harder than I think it probably should have, thanks Ellen
I had the ice cream one as a kid! I'd completely forgotten about it until this rush of nostalgia ^-^
Now I crave a new Series by Ellen and Luke just about old toys
Hearing Ellen imitate an American accent to say "Dive bar" is absolutely hilarious
Transformers toys (especially the cheaper off brand ones) seemed to always pick a primary form (vehicle, robot, dinosaur etc.) that looked pretty good. and then the secondary form often looked like the toy designers said "Yep that's close enough, ship it." 😂
Lukes reactions to the faces are the best xD
I have a whole bunch of those, but I never knew that I didn't have a complete collection until seeing your milkshake. You've actually got fewer than I, but I still really want a complete set. Maybe this makes me weird, but I actually liked them and played with them. Of course that also means mine aren't in as good of condition, but they're not too bad.
I enjoyed this way too much 😂 you're bundles of joy and lovely people, thank you for making me laugh 😊
Not the episode that we deserved, but the one that we needed.
...don't AAASK MEE... what your sacrifice was foooooorrr... empty chairs at empty tables... *breaks down weeping*
bravo bravo, another great show of the weekend!!
"Did he (Megatron) transform into a gun?" Yes, yes he did, Luke. Allow me to Geek out: Megatron (G1) was a nickle plated Luger, and his arm cannon split into a scope and silencer. His arm cannon could also be mounted on a tripod that became the pistol's extended stock. As time went on, they had to tone down depictions of firearms since it was marketed at kids. Hence, Shockwave was a more subdued futuristic laser pistol/land canon, and now, none of the current gen Transformers will ever turn into small arms due to the controversial nature of such weapons.
Plus it was just...kinda a ridiculous idea in hindsight. He has to turn into a gun and be fired/wielded by a subordinate, he can't do anything in alt mode.
Also the trigger on the toy was deadass on his crotch as a robot. I'm not joking.
Oh I remember these. Very cool finds. Memory unlocked
Give me a minute...
*deep breath in... deep breath out... internally screaming in nostalgia!!!!!!!! *
Okay, go on
I literally have these still! I remember breaking my fingernails on the “fryceratops” tail. Thanks for unlocking those memories!
Omg the nostalgia! We've got a box in the house of old happy meal toys that my mam kept for us over the years haha! We also have the happy meal-odon, the fryceratops and I think the try shaker tops (brilliant names🤣) damn this video has taken me back!
I'd absolutely watch more of these! the fry one was adorable.
These were easily the best Happy Meal toys ever, and I now have to doubt everything Ellen and Luke have ever said.
Yeah, I was thinking... 2*... 3*???? compared to WHAT?!
Luke losing his shit at the names is a highlight of the day.
I for one am always picturing dragons with houses on their backs. The hermit crab dragon is my favourite and I won't tolerate this blasphemy!
Holy hell this unlocked actually hidden memories from my childhood.
The milkshake one somehow always made me think of the dragons from Unico and the Island of Magic.
here in the US, I remember those, but we had a lot of "current promotion" toys, that seemed to be a lot better than these food toys
Possibly because companies sponsoring the promotions spent the money on making sure the toys were"good" instead of McD having to put their own money into the toys.
The worst happy meal toy is when they say "sorry, we're out of happy meal toys"
Aaaaaaaaand I'm old. I remember getting these 😂. Family trips out to Toys'R'Us then to McDonald's for a Happy Meal. Ah, the days before rent, bills and assorted adulting.
