    If you mount this alternator and controller driven bearings to your car, it will always be generating batteries. If you leave it at home, it will only generate when that chunk is loaded.
    You could also use the pistons to add a support in the middle of your bearing stack to stabilize it, hopefully.

    Just a quick tip about the alternators, the force they apply to the input is proportional to the rpm that they are spun at, so as the speed of the input increases, the higher the resistance will be. Survival is quite bad if you want to build any sort of piston engines, the physics is slightly lower quality than the creative advanced physics which really messes with the strength of bearings, this also slightly lowers the force that a controller bearing can output, going from its normal torque (4000Nm) to around 3600 - 3800Nm. All I did was create a piston turbine, it uses bearing stretch and pistons to force the bearing stretch and creates a crazy rotational force, on mine and Keins scripted dyno they made around 1,500Hp at around 2000Rpm (numbers are a bit worse in survival because of physics) but it was still an absolute beast and produced batteries like nobodies business.

    I said it before but the comment was a little messy so I wanted to redo it
    I think it would be really cool to build a farm truck (not a truck that is a farm, but like a rusty 60-70s pickup) as the main vehicle for the series!
    I think it would be cool to have a miniseries building the prototype in creative first. One episode could be on the piston engine that will be going inside the truck. Others could be on the transmission, the looks of the truck, other features like removable canopies, trailer hitches, tailgates, etc. I think it would be really cool to be involved in the prototyping of the main vehicle and be able to suggest things rather than just having it show up in a Timelapse or something.
    I think it would just be cool to develop an attachment to the main vehicle! Give a name, and just have some fun with it!
    Plus we can still have the vehicle grow and change! Maybe it gets blown up and it’s repaired but that section is the wrong colour for a little. Maybe we get a new engine in it later as you continue to experiment in creative with different designs, maybe you build new suspension for the truck. It can develop in steps as you need it to in survival. You can test things and if they don’t work, go back in another episode and change it!!
    Plus if you build a creative version, you could get the other MM guys do the same and compete for who has the best vehicle in a series of challenges and categories

      This is a wonderful idea! If kAN didn't want to stream it he could spend a video building out the body with suggestions from a community pole (single cab, quad cab, long bed, stepside, 4x4, 6x6) for each portion of the truck build. This way, it works for everyone. For kAN, it gets community reach and interaction with the channel. For the viewers, it give us an opportunity to give input and really rally behind different aspects of the build they want.

    • @roccov3614
      @roccov3614 Před 5 měsíci

      I was suspecting there is a limit to how fast you can make batteries. It looks like kAN is reaching that limit of about 1 battery every 30 seconds. If you are making 10 bearings work, is it making batteries faster or is it still limited to 1 battery every 30 seconds?

    • @omegaalpha8380
      @omegaalpha8380 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@roccov3614 I think the 10 bearing setup is limited due to not much torque and it seems only 6 bearings continue to move. It's doing 3% of a batterie a second. Here's something to note i left SM on in the background a while ago and i forgot to put storage on the alternator, but it doesn't need any, if its internal inventory is full it's percent into a batterie just climbs, my current alternator has 207,000% in batteries and whenever you take a batterie out it just subtracts 100 from that percent until it runs out. Also when the bearings inevitably freak out just break the controller and it goes back to normal.

    You could try generating power using an electric engine, it would be interesting to see if they calculated it so you couldn't make a perpetual power generator. I could imagine that you could actually generate infinite power with an electric engine.
    You could also try just making a gas powered generator at the oil pond that just gets powered by autocrafted gas

    • @roccov3614
      @roccov3614 Před 5 měsíci +1

      The problem with the oil pond idea is, your base is usually not near it. So it only makes batteries when you go there but making batteries is so slow that you want it running all the time. So you really need to be making batteries either at home or on your car.

    So if you have a smelter that has completed smelting a bunch of metal, but you leave the area, all of that completed metal will reset to 0% smelted when you reenter the area.

    Maybe I don't know enough about SM sensors, but couldn't you just use the distance setting and delete the blocks on the Sensor-flywheel? Could also help you define the timing since you can use different shaped blocks.

    • @CHECKERCE
      @CHECKERCE Před 5 měsíci +10

      Thought the same but I think it would be difficult to balance the weight of the timing wheel that way. And if it's not perfectly balanced, it will wiggle like we saw when the drive shaft wasn't balanced

    • @dm-5
      @dm-5 Před 5 měsíci +2

      Yup that would've worked and regarding the balancing: that's why it is common knowledge to put your sensors on the crankshaft and have the timing wheel be static. KAN's been tought that by the piston engine community, but he generally likes to keep forgetting the basics...

    • @William_Kyle-Yuki_Yuuki
      @William_Kyle-Yuki_Yuuki Před 5 měsíci +1

      it may have been fixed (unlikely) but when the sensors are set to distance and just looking for an object or not, if the object is moving fast the sensor response times are rather inconsistent and sometimes will not even activate/deactivate depending on the settings. a few ms either way would likely make a piston engine unreliable at best.

    The reason the controller freaked out is because you changed the setting when it was active.
    Controllers take corrective action if you change their settings while they're running - they try to compensate for the difference between where they are and where they now should be.
    If you try the 10-stack again, but with the correct setting (loop active) from the beginning, it may work.
    But yeah, it might also just freak out again. It do be like that in Scrap Mechanic sometimes...
    Loved the vid!

    Use lighter blocks/less friction blocks or pipe pieces for the controller bearing engine. 7 bearings was my limit before things broke, and my computer is not nearly as good as yours.
    Underground platform mining would be the easiest way to get those dangle rocks.
    Have you tried "hoiks"? Idk how well it would translate with a torque factor, but you push a wedge against a wheel at a specific angle and scrapmechanic physics does its thing and generates insane rotation speed

  • @BleachWizz
    @BleachWizz Před 5 měsíci +5

    7:16 - hence why I've made a code to modify the game so you get 4 times more blocks from drops, but also it makes recipes cost 4 times more blocks.
    Also increases the stack size by the same multiplier.
    And it's a python code that you run over the scrap mechanic files, the game has a standard folder to hold data from these blocks and recipes, and even modded blocks should be added there.
    Which means I probably can run it on this mod and allow you to get more blocks for base building.
    Tbh really I had the most fun with this game when I multiplied the blocks by 8, still 6 should be ideal because now instead of holding 1 platform you hold 1 cube of walls. oh yes, you also can choose the multiplier you want to apply.

    To make things a little easier for you I'll remind you that steam has added back in the note pad for the Steam UI you can pull up for games. The one you open up to send friend invites and all that stuff. There's a tab on the bottom for a notepad, so you can take notes on who trades what at what cost there and the best part about it is that those notes are saved to the games. If you were to play Scrap Mechanic again and open that note app, your notes would still be there. If you opened up Zeepkist and opened that notes app, you'd have a blank notepad because the notes are bound to each game. And to resolve your questions/worries, yes I know that Mark trades for Component Kits.
    That controller setup is quite a bit faster than the I4 piston engine I have setup. If your computer can handle the complex physics setting and you don't fear any kind of bearing explosion, I'd say go for it. The main difference between the 2 alternators would be the Heavy Duty one applies more torque the faster its spun to generate faster. Even though you say it's slow, you could try a waterwheel setup and find out what slow is. To give you an idea of how slow it is, it's faster to put a block of concrete 1 on the end of a pipe on a bearing sticking out of the ground and you whacking it to generate power than it is to wait for a waterwheel to generate a battery. Like you could get 3 batteries out of physically whacking a block around a bearing by the time a waterwheel has gotten an alternator up to 15%.

You can use the large ramp blocks to make it look like it has supports holding the platform up once you get the lower floor with all the tubing built. I think it will be worth checking if gas engines can power the alternator better than the controller once you get the oil pump running, I doubt that it'll be worth the logistical effort but it would be interesting to see how effective it is nonetheless.

    PRO tip any inventory blocks saves inventory when saved on the lift also it’s not the mod it’s the custom world
    Custom worlds are made as a “creative world” within the files causing lift access
    Also be careful as u can dupe items using chests on the lift

    i do think if you go back to the piston engine, at least as far as the description of the generator, if you'r applying torque, it's slower generation, but it sounds like it makes more than one battery at a time

    maybe built like 3 of those 5 bearing spinners below the foor. So make 2x level 5 controller and use 1 controller for 2 different spinners and then another level 5 controller for another spinner and then built 3 alternators. (maybe the normal alternator) and then run those 3 into 1 chest on the top of your base. Then i think you will get a ton of batteries. and you can always built mote to get more batteries.

    I look forward to a game like this that integrates with 3d printers and Arduino so you can test your creations in-game and then print out a functioning model.

    • @DarthZ01
      @DarthZ01 Před 5 měsíci +1

      functioning might be a bit of a stretch. no matter how much you 3d print, a controller will never actually function as it does in game, no power source and all.

    • @Darthos3
      @Darthos3 Před 5 měsíci

      @@DarthZ01 Generally agreed, fellow Darth. This is why I suggest that such a game work with Arduino micro-controller boards. The 3d prints can cover the structure and many moving parts, but things like the controllers, electric motors, sensors, etc of course cannot currently be printed at home. I guess I'm more just thinking of a builder game concept that isn't limited to the screen.

    So, if you put two controllers with 4 bearings each on each end of a base, then have the alternator bearing between two blocks. Spin the controllers opposite directions, so each is only moving its' 4, does that end in bearing freak out still? That would give you 8 bearings worth of speed, while controlling 4x2. Or is the issue simply velocity?

  • @Wizzielvl9

    You cannot connect multiple sources to one alternator, but what about one source for multiple alternator, would it add more torque to the load bearing or would it prevent it from working? Also what about the level 5 engines? Like the petrol engine to convert fuel into batteries? Like a good desert base with infinite oil? Make infinite fuel to convert into infinite batteries? Also that idea to see if you can hook a level 5 electrical engine and see if it generate more batteries than it consumes.

  • @Tom89194
    @Tom89194 Před 5 měsíci +1

    ... Yeah I had to make my alternator setup detachable so that I can easily put it on a lift to calm it down whenever the physics wig out even on one where the end block is properly welded to the rest of the frame..... Seems to happen on occasion when its cell gets loaded while it is running.
    It is definitively less violent when the end block is welded but can still smack objects and makes a lot of banging noises..... my first one before I got the welder did what Kan's did and tried to get to escape velocity when some bumbling fool tried to stop it. The bumbling fool detached it instead of deleting the controller.
    I also have trouble with a scotch yoke mechanism that does the timing for the water cannons on my farm. I have 20 cannons rotate/sweep ~120 degrees with a controller to water 260 plots and the scotch yoke bar strokes through a slide with timing blocks on it to trigger a sensor that sets off the cannons appropriately. Everything is welded to the ground, except for the scotch yoke bar, and it keeps falling though the wheels I used as support rollers whenever I come back to my base. I ended up adjusting the whole thing so that I can just pick the bar back up and weld it to a support pillar and then cut it off of the pillar when I want to water the farm. When you think, "Oh this will work great" then scrap mechanic throws some nonsense problem, like a solid bar falling through a perfectly good wheel. Then you cobble together some solution that makes it halfway practical to use in the end, just so the build isn't wasted.
