The first original Battlefront game had a living sarlacc that would snatch and eat you if you got too close. Both of EA’s remakes features a dead, unthreatening sarlacc that could only possibly kill you if you jumped straight into it. That perfectly illustrates the contrast between a game, and something that pretends to be a game.

I think what I miss the most is the scale and overall approach to the battles. Having mostly open fields to fight on, rather than set routes, helped the gameplay feel more dynamic.
I feel the original may not have been as balanced but its rather chaotic set up gives it some odd sense of realism.

Damn the 2005 version was such a good game. I loved the facts you could doc in an enemy ship during a space battle jump out and fight your way to the reactor, blow it up and fly to your safety!! What a game!!!

The old game is more focused on recreating the feeling of being on a Star Wars battlefield. For it's time and limitations I think they did a great job. They also focused more on off line play since the internet was still not a big thing yet. I know I never played online at the time. While the new game has online play as a backbone of the experience, which is understandable in the current gaming landscape.
The Internet was a very big thing then
@@calastyphon3414 It was growing. BF2 launched a few months after CZcams. I believe that both games are good in there own ways, Dice has used technological improvements and new trilogy to their adventage to make a more polished and beautiful game...HOWEVER Pandemic made some very ambitious choices, which paid off tremendously, things like Boardable ships, Galactic Conquest, Hunt mode, the sandbox map design, and amazing vehicles are something Dice STILL hasn't lived up to. But both games are worth playing.
I disagree with boardable ships it's heavily unbalanced, takes away from the point of ship combat, spawn camping, etc.
@@cuttlefish6839 I fail to see how it is unbalanced as both teams have only aesthetically different ships, however the concpet of being able to board and sabotage capitalships is an amazing idea, and with this current technology should have been replicayed with ease, and the sheer fun factor of boarding it was an amazing experience, even for today's standards. Just because you don't use money, doesn't mean the addicting effect of taking or chances at a random chance box aren't there.
If you could pull a slot machine for free, it would be the same game.
Yes, the game had a progression.
It would take your actions and reward you for it.
If you reached a proficiency level, you'd get them permanently. For example, if you sabotaged (I believe 300) vehicles with your repair tool, you'd get the skill of always self reparing any vehicle you were on and it was invaluable.
Like the standard rifle that would work like Boba Fett's blaster, the Engineer's shotgun would be upgrade to kill almost anything with a headshot and pretty much anything else with 2 shots.
These were progressions worth going after, not these meaningless awards and achievements made just to give you a random engagement goal.
I think what gives the 2005 version a better edge is the game's still very active modding community. There are new maps, game modes, skins, and entire conversion mods for Battlefront 2 2005 that makes it so fresh each time you play it.

The original BF2's 501st-oriented campaign is one of the best stories in legends or cannon. It was fun and it gave an interesting and believable look into the Republic and Imperial army from a clone's perspective. As good as the new game has gotten it will never beat the original in this regard. Also, all subsequent cannon attempts to explain the military transition of clones to stormtroopers has kinda sucked in comparison
Word. And who doesn't want the somber, yet stoic sound of Aquaman's dad regaling and guiding you into battle flash backs basically? @@swoozyduzzytgottaloveit2966 Rebels was really just a bs kids show. It just displays the empire as a bunch of dorks that can't do anything. I know that they had some more or less major flaws but still they got away with far more stuff then they should have. The plot armour was just too big. They never would have won against Thrawn for example since he was a brilliant mind and couldn't be that easy decieved. When he still was still in the Chiss Defense Fleet and took down 2 Lucrehulks fully loaded with Vulture Droids with only 3 Ships and a couple of fighters in the end with 0 casualties. So their freighter probably would have ended get blown to piece by a Arquintens instead the other way around. Also Vader incompetence was too unreal compared to what you see in reality of him, he would have killed Kanan and Ezra easily. I think you gotta good point. Didnt think about that
Yeah I feel you, like how a character has to do an animation before he can complete your input, I accept it in open world games but not multiplayer shooters
Lightsabers in bf2 original are a dream, always hated battle front dices approach to completing animations
The modern game feels more responsive...
The og was way more fun I would play for hours that felt like a blink
Something to say for the balance of the old one, is that it was more "realistic." Meaning if you got shot by a rocket, or sgepled on a mine, you are dead.
But because of that a heavy can one-shot a hero.
@@frostiestcaptain5620 but it is very easy to see the shot coming, and very easy to dodge it if you pay attention.
@@jonahi3543 But a lightsaber hero will still end up sitting on a mine that was dropped during an evasion roll.
@@frostiestcaptain5620 then it blows them up.
@@jonahi3543 It's a bullshit one shots. I like the more formidable heroes in this new one.
I have a bone disease and when I was a kid, after one of my surgeries, my mom was staying at the hospital with me, and my dad brought my brothers to visit me. Battlefront 2 had just come out and instead of going back home my dad took my brothers out and bought it right then and brought it back to the hospital room and we played it for the first time into the night on the slim ps2 I brought with me
Very cool story, thanks for sharing! Some games can genuinelly make life better, and this is one of em
Nick930 Thanks for the video! I think I’m gonna pick up the new one after watching this video, it looks pretty fun and I’ve never tried it
You have been blessed with a good family! 😇
Nice
As someone who also has a bone disease I can confirm that we, at the very least, get some pretty good video game stories out of it due to all of our down time.
Lol my girl just asked me if this voice was Kermet the frog 😂
Lmao I'm dead 😂😂
At first I was like ouch, but then I'm like if kermet wanna talk to me some Star Wars... I'm all in.
LMAOOO I CANT UNHEAR IT NOW
good work got a sub
My game is heavily modded so that way it resembles Dice's version
I honestly like the 2005 Endor better than the new one , it just has such a iconic look to it
I prefer the new battlefront a million percent more but I still agree.
Original game, best maps are Polis Masa, Mustafar and Mos Eisley
@@pgm8464 the new game is just too repetitive since the map design is linear
I like the 2015 Endor
Chao Lingshen agreed
I actually played the original 2004 battlefront 1 more than the 2005 battlefront 2 lol I can't be the only one.
Played both but 2 waaay more
I loved the loading screen where it zoomed into the planet you were going to
I love them both so much, I still have never anticipated a sequel or almost anything as much as when I was waiting for Battlefront 2 to come out, because the first was good and the sequel promised more. I was not dissatisfied nor disappointed, but the first one really is a gem.
I did like the maps better in 1 i think - particularly the ground maps which also had air vehicles, which were lacking in 2. I remember geonosis was better in BF1
Also in BF2 too many confined linear corridoor maps that turned into rocket/mine spamfests.
@@dogbadger The conversion mod adds all the maps from the first game and more stuff and also kotor era and kotor maps with a galactic conquest.
You also have to realize the big disadvantage of being a heavy trooper is that it takes you a long time to reload one rocket by the time you reload that rocket somebody could have already killed you, but you're not mentioning the engineer trooper, which has the ability to heal themselves and has a shotgun I can kill you at point blank range. Not to mention it has c4, and you can always spam back and forth on Stormtroopers between pistol and blaster rifle. I do it all the time. It's actually a professional tip that I picked up myself,
Amazing how the original has so much more content
Facts
The original Battlefront still holds up pretty well still prefer it to the newer one.
Nah, I tried playing it for a bit, got boring quickly. Doesn't hold up well.
@@armzngunz your opinion man but 2005 is way better to me
@@bobREALOG but how? I cant play it for more than an hour before it gets stale?
armzngunz lmao I can’t play for 30 minutes
@@armzngunz It's called having a different style, or opinion, or whatever you wanna call it, just because YOU don't enjoy it doesn't mean nobody else won't enjoy it aswell.
I want Galactic Conquest back!!! Those space to ground fights were something special. It would be amazing to have that same level of immersion across all the trilogy series. I hate how the modern game does all the work for you. I don’t want a loading screen, I want to commandeer a troop transports, load up my whole squad, then try and crash the enemy hanger.
I miss the Pandemic era, they had the right ideas on how to make the battles feel more grand
Might not fill the itch but some of the ex-Pandemic staff are working on Galaxy in Turmoil which is inspired by old BF2
battlefront (2015) has a lot of that. granted, you need to get dlc but most people already get them for how great they are. scarif and the death star have amazing multiphase battles with air and land
I love Dice's version but I do miss the godlike heroes in Pandemic's game. Though I know that wouldn't be fair in multiplayer
"Dice's version is still fairly limited in terms of it's offline content and the battles themselves are smaller in scale."
And that, is why is fails.
I have both sets of Battlefront games on the XBOX ONE X. I enjoy all four entries for what they are.
THANK YOU
lone wolf he said he did
Same but i play on pc
2017 Yoda - Do or do not, there is no try.
2002 Yoda - Ketamine I must find
This still makes me want to play the old battlefront 2, never got tired of that game :)
The OG will always be my favorite Star Wars game, next to kotor, next to republic commando, next to Jedi academy
Wish you covered vehicles since they seemed more dumbed down in the latest edition with heavy target lock-on. Especially since you spawn in them, instead of having to actually enter them through a hangar.
There was just far too much to cover. I had a vehicles section, including how AI currently cant operate them on the ground, but it had to be cut for the sake of keeping it at a reasonable length.
Man the new swbf2 is bloody good but I do miss the OG droid voices. They sounded badass
The graphics are so good and well optimized ,meanwhile Fallen Order graphics aren’t much better but runs like ass
Ok boomer.
Thicc Yoshi Your funny
@@mihah9415 cause its made by a different team using unreal engine instead of using the normal frosbite engine
Roger Roger
I would be more interested if you compared the artstyles between games, graphic quality is no contest for 2005 but here is a real comparison between stylized vs photorealistic modeling. Props on comparing the mechanics, most people ignore or don't seem to know
Being able to fly from your hangar to the enemy hangar is something I’ve been yearning for for basically two decades.
I love, when you play a hero in bf 2 2005 and the music starts playing and playing and don't end before you die. I love this
The new FO jet trooper feels like the old jet troopers and this makes me feel things.....good things
I still prefer the old one on the ps2...
There could have been a comparison on the Heroes on how they work and function and how they move. Btw in my opinion the vehicles that are already in the map are way more efficient than just purchasing them because it makes you feel a lot more like your apart of a army.
Excellent analysis as always, Nick. o7
I still play the original. Back then they still cared about making games fun.
I've heard after the December update Battlefront II EA is miles better than what it was at launch.
Dude just stop with that pointless argument
@@marbl3d45 yeah, it was better with the update, but at the end of the day EA still doesn't understand what made the originals so good. I like the new games, but as multiplayer FPS, not as true Battlefront games.
If you on Xbox 1, the original battlefront 2 got a dlc which gave you a new hero and villain and few other maps from the previous battlefront in 2004. It also allowed the hero vs villain mode (assault) on a few other maps
man bf2 on the ps2 was such a classic. The 1st one still felt better for combat but the ship flying and taking over planets was tons of fun in the 2nd.
I wish more people played starfighter assault. Even years after release of the original PC BF2, you could still find full space-focused servers.
Not a remake, it's the sequel of a reboot.
Thank you for speaking to Battlefront 2's single player campaign (the 2019 updated version). Great video overall. I've decided to purchase the 2005 and 2017 version to play the single player campaign based from your evaluation from this video.
This video was so interestin' to have Kermit the Frog to talk me through the comparisons 😂😂
