    This Thursday I will do a "French Reading Practice" around the verb ÊTRE - DOn't forget to subscribe to not miss it ❤️
    Edit : I got a few comments about the passé composé being "have been" and not "was". I only added one for lack of space but don't forget that passé composé doesn't always translate to the past perfect in English. If it was it would be great but unfortunately, it doesn't 😉

    Bonjour Dylane! It's interesting that in French therer's only one to be verb être, whereas in Spainish and Portuguese there are two, estar and ser, which always confuse many people when to use which. It's also interesting that the radical in futur simple and conditionnel tenses Ser, is the same as one of the Spanish and Portuguese verb! So in French the to be verb is like the combination of the 2 to be verbs in Spanish and Portuguese! Merci beaucoup

    • @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
      @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane  Před 3 lety +2

      I usually put both since it depends on the situation, but I was running out of space. Looking back I should probably have only put Have been.

    Passe compose
    There should have been the exact translation of j’ai ètè I have been
    Is it ??

  • @bilqeesshabbir5871
    @bilqeesshabbir5871 Před 3 lety

    I beliave Passe compose in French is similar to Past perfect in English. It should be tralslated as ' I have been'. Whereas, Simple past is 'I was'.

    • @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
      @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane  Před 3 lety +2

      Passé composé doesn't actually translate word by word to the past perfect in English. It can be I was AND I have been. Like I said in another comment, I only put one mostly because of space.

    • @Aditya-te7oo
      @Aditya-te7oo Před 3 lety

      I think passé composé and imparfait is respectively simple past and past continuous in English.

    Im in “old age”. Some good things happen then ( not many!) im remembering my level of french more easily. They say if you dont use it you loose it so im surprised this is happening. There is no reason for me to speak write or read it. But some movies are in french that interest me. My level of french is beginning intermediate. A person could survive on that level just fine really except for literature, movies or writing articles and long letters. Just have no reason to do such ….but love languages. In europe more people are multilingual than in America. In regards to pronunciation its the last thing i worry over. I hear people speaking fluently English and there are all sorts of different accents. No big thing. It makes too many people shy to try speaking it. My mom read Russian literature but balked at putting a sentence together verbally. This teacher has a fairly strong accent. Does it bother me? Does it make me amused? Am I able to understand? Travelling around you end up able to overcome language barrier in some fun interesting ways. Its fun! Its not MATH! Ugh math. Horrible language

    An enjoyable lesson👍. One question: On Forvo, which presents recordings of French speakers, the people recorded add in a liaison between the auxiliary AVOIR and the past participle été. For example, they say:
    tu as_été, nous_avons_été, vous_avez_été, ils/elles_ont_été. The Reverso conjugation tool also does the last one but not the others.
    Should you add in these extra links to speak the absolute best French, or is it a practice that is frowned upon?
    PS. I just noticed this also happens with the Plus-que-parfait. eg j'avais_été. Even ils avaient_été which sounds like (il-zahvay-tay-tay).

    • @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane
      @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane  Před 2 lety +1

      Martin they are actually optional but most of the time, people will pronounce them :)

    • @martinl583
      @martinl583 Před 2 lety

      @@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane Merci beaucoup pour votre réponse. Did you not pronounce the extra liaisons yourself because it would complicate the lesson; but you would pronounce them in your normal speech.
