  • Surly headset install, (My Surly Build Project). I am taking a different approach to this video by not editing much at all. Hopefully, this gives an organic and realistic feel to a real world scenario. I damaged the crown race! I include the not so smooth problems that arise and how I problem solve the issue. This will be my full Surly bike build so watch for the rest of the videos to come.

Hy and greetings from Germany! Thanks for the tutorial and I think we all learned a lot especially from the things that didn’t work as expected. Have a nice day and see you next time 👍🍀🌞

@@BikeTeacher thank you and have a great evening, here in Germany it’s already late night. We like to travel to the United States (especially San Diego and San Francisco at the west coast) before Corona and during the pandemic I rediscovered my passion for biking and bought a new eBike (Giant Stance e+) and love it. Videos like yours are fantastic because I like to do things on my one, sometimes fail but that’s how things are going. 👍💤💤🌞

Have a look at Unior tools, way better quality than park, the adapters on their crown race tool are lovely

I need to check them out. No one sells them near me so I can touch before I buy.

they have a kick ass Chain Splitter as well. with a bearing behind the drive pin.. it's pricey so you know it's good.

I’ll check with my distributor. My mouth is starting to water.

BS. It has nothing to do with Park Tool but has everything to do with the mechanic GUESSING HIS TOOLS. Cane Creek has had installation adapters forever.

Thank you for putting this out. I am getting ready to do the same and lessons learned, I ordered the Cane Creek install adapters.

Your welcome, I opted for the lower level headset but still very good front Cane Creek.

Why would you put bicycle grease between your cheek and gum? I'm profoundly confused, is it a joke?

I don't feel so bad now bad with my struggle to do this even though I had bought the correct tools for it. Next time I will for for split crown race.

Sometimes it's not the tools, just my headspace, lol.

you could've left the drop-out protector on for fitting the lower race, hey presto - no damage to the fork
IMO, 200mm of A-Head spacers is the way to go #BigStack

Good point, it’s a steel fork so less chance of damaging.
