Hey 7 years after you made this video, it helped me get a tight tire off my enve carbon rim today. I used plastic soft jaws in my vice which lowered the stress level. Thank you!
Mine looks nothing like this.
amazing teaching, a true master of your craft, this is so helpful

Where does the 9mm get into the picture?
On my single speed bike I was riding 16t in the back 36t in the front and I just wasn’t getting the momentum I was looking for out of each pedal rotation so I changed my front chainring to 39t and now it’s going a bit faster
My barrel adjuster is moving my whole brake cable, it seems like the housing is a little broken and stuck in the barrel adjuster, any solution?
How to adjust the low-limit screw: Video #1. 15 long minutes of guys going over roots and rocks. but NO INFO about whether to turns the screw CW or CCW. Video #2. talk talk talk with no close up of the actual screw, just a guy talking about some other subject for a half hour. This video: A blurry closse up of the guy's head. 7 minuttes long. Nothing showing adjusment of the low limit. Does anyone know of a video that shows the low-limit adjustment? It only needs to be abour 30 seconds. CCW out? CW in or opposite? That's all I need.
great tutorial, sir, thank you!
how to do it if the whole cable is pushed into the tube inside how do I take it out and put the dropper post back? the barrel is already on it
Thank god for this video. The way you explained to look at the tire side and imagine you're turning a screw SOLVED all my problems. I thought I had it really right before then I looked at my wheel and it was like a bowl hahah. I really needed this mate thank you
Did you just replace the derailleur?!?😂
No. Just lubed it. ⚙️
This will never work for the new crop of Transmission cassettes. The lock barrel is significantly tighter than older SRAM cassettes. Even with a 12" ratchet on the cassette tool, the lock tube won't turn easily, let alone using finger pressure to get the cassette started.
You’re right, The XD has no independent lock ring. And turning from start to finish has constantly resistance.
Next time try with a little soap and water
Will do. Thanks.
You are a lifesaver, mate. Thank you so much.
Oh thanks so much!⚙️💪🏽
Howdy. My friend, I don't know where you are from, but you have a good English pronunciation. Good luck in what you do!
Thanks!🙏
Brake handle gets stuck, locking the brakes, when pulling the brake...
Check either the brake handle or the brake pad is getting jammed on on the rim. The pads may be loose and getting stuck just under the time braking surface.
@@BikeTeacher broken brake noodle, not sure what else yet.
This is way funnier if you listen to it without watching the video.
I will check that out.
Thank you 🎉
My pleasure
This is one of the best videos i've ever seen on bike brake adjustment, no one ever mentioned about the spacer issue as the author did here. Thank You.. Very detailed.
Thank you for the comment. I appreciate that. ⚙️⚙️
One ring to rule them all... 😂
💍
Dunno if you are still there but here is my question. I don't have a bike repair stand. Would it be OK if I turned my bicycle upside down to replace the brake pads and remove the wheels? The hydraulic fluid doesn't seem to like that position.
It should be okay. The hydraulic system should be okay. If there are issues it’s because there’s something wrong like air in the system. May need a bleed.
Many thanks.
They're basically Indian lemmings
I just took mine apart and the plastic part with teeth wasnt there. Did they do a redesign? Mine is new bought in 2024.
That’s possible. I haven’t seen a current one yet.
I bought a parts bike just to take the avid juicy 5's off to put on my girlfriends bike. They definitely are both juicy 5's but i also noticed they have a different one of these springs in each of them, one looks like the one in the video and one doesnt...(edit- O im missing a top spring clip on that one). I see now..they still work somehow😂 They both work but im now wondering what thats about😅. I do have a problem with slight rubbing on front and back, I havnt figured out how to adjust out the pads themselves to stop from being so tight in there.. Theres gotta be a way right? Every other brake ive seen has a way to back off the pads a tiny bit. My rotors measure 1.7 and 1.8 in thickness..my bran new ones measure 1.9.. so when i put them on my problems going to be a bit worse if i cant adjust them..
Thanks for the video. I bought a awesome ozark trail gravel bike yesterday. But i noticed when i was using the lowest gear(I think? lol?) The chain would click on the deraillier
Another tip for smaller people - position the breaker bar so that it is resting on your hip, then push down on the pedal with your right hand and pull up on the other pedal with your left hand.
I tried even with a vise taking to bike shop spent a wasted hour on this
the Kona remote 160 came with this seat post, I think carbon fibre is better but this is kinda cool!!
Ya. I think so.
i would have tightened the cable from the handle bar because if incase the set screws come a little loose, you have take the whole post out just to tighten it plus it makes it a lot easier assembling and cutting your 7 inches from handle bar height and tweaking from there.....my 2 cents!!
I agree. 😁
Thank you Bike Teacher - This video helped me get a TranzX post working again on a Kona Process 134DL.
Awesome. Glad it helped. ⚙️
Lmao i just watched this after my bike de railled on the way home just now
Hopefully not to bad.
Yep, tried all the other ways on my gravel bike tires. Worked like a champ. Hope I never have to do this on the side of the trail. And tell me why some new bikes come with un-removable valve cores- kinda would have been happy running tubes with stans for a bit to see if I like the tires. Thanks again my friend.
Your welcome. The ones that come with removable cores could be old stock. It all depends on the tube manufacturer. I see more and more and more available today. If you’re talking about the tubeless valves not having removable cores. Those would be rare.
Can you do a MTB wheel swap to just a freewheel without the hub? planning to make a fixie gravel, but no hub, is it possible? Thanks
If I understand correctly. Think no. Once the freehub node is removed there is no option to just run a single gear. Nobody makes a conversion b
How about the middle 'cog wheel/rather thing' not snapping back? if I shift upwards, everything clicks no problem, then on the way down, the first three gears don't click/snap back at all, then from the 4th gear down the snapping/clicking returns. What could I do? it's been driving me insane for days now
It was a real quick video, but enough to make my front up-shifter work again. Thanks a lot for your very clear and instructive video..
Size of tap for heli-coil ?
A 2 or 3 arm puller would work much better if you can get a decent grip on the inboard side of the crank. Or you could punch it off with a long socket extender and hammer from the other side so long as you secure the spindle with a bolt or small socket placed onto a hard surface, with the bike off the stand and on its side. But these methods are really crude and will do all sorts of damage to the bike and parts unnecessarily.
Thanks for the ideas. I tried a lot of brutal methods. It’s tough getting equal pressure on the crank all the way around the spindle. I looked into inventing a removal tool but too expensive.
Music SUX. Otherwise ok
Ya, super old video. I’m embarrassed by some of the music back then. lol
This is mine but the rear wheel, is it any different
Try to find the source, rule out what it may not be. Is brake pad rubbing rim? Open the brakes quick release and get the brakes out of the scenario. Is it the axle where the bearings are. Is the wheel spinning freely on its own? If it’s the rear wheel, is the chain or gears altering the free spin of the wheel.
@@BikeTeacher just fixed it this morning
I replaced a rim and it got flat 2 days later any idea why?
The tube may have gotten punctured during installation. If a tire lever was used to reinstall the tire this can happen. Also recheck that the tire liner is in good shape and covering the entire bed of the rim. No metal spoke holes should be showing.
Why allway forward ?
That’s my default starting position. You can work from there if you have issues. The ball of the foot tends to be the center where power of generated.
The best tutorial so far that I have seen.
Thank you. Happy you liked it.
Make sure to grip the spoke with pliers next to nipple and keep it locked when adjusting as old spokes will have stuck threads and adjusting it will cause spoke to twist and snap, wd40 will also help, you can tell this is happening if there is bounce back in opposite direction after letting go of adjustment tool
I agree. Add a piece of tape to the spoke to track its movement.
Not familiar with bikes, but was asked to adjust someone else's cable adjustment and found this video to better help me understand. The first thing that came to mind was that : isn't the 'barrel' the barrel shaped end 'blob' to the cable that slots in its position inside the lever?. So what does this adjustment have to do with that?; it is more of a sheathing to handle free play or backlash adjuster. Is it just a misnomer?. From a teaching perspective, would be good to go back to basics to figure out how you would come up with this device from the get go?. For example, it it were not cable, but a rod system, to design 'free play ' at the lever, you might put a link in there with slotted holes. And for a cable system, where the cable does not wholly travel in a straight line, and is sheathed to confine any 'out of position' movement, you can then dream up this device to give the variable free play at the lever.
That’s a very in-depth thought process. Preferably I would have this discussion in person to better understand your thought process. I’ll take a quick stab at it and say the variable of the brakes built in spring offers an adjustability that can assist you adjusting the brakes or offset unforeseen conditions.
... feeling that extra pressure that.... (what?) Is there a full version of this video, please?
I may have some videos. Try playlists/derailleurs. I’m sure I address this. Anytime the rear wheel is removed the switch is activated or deactivated.
I have a question, why didn't he put the bike side ways to the wheel doesn't fall out ?
I think so, from what I remember.
You saved my life!
Wow! I’m happy to help.
It worked, unlike any other advice. Now that I broke the seal on the tyre and added the Kevlar tape to the tyre how do I reseal? Does that happen on its own when you inflate the tyre? Sorry for sounding stupid.
Some tires are more cooperative than others. Some may set themselves with just a floor pump. Others may need an air compressor. It can be a little tricky. If you are on my channel, search tubeless tires.
Isn't it amazing, how the right tools make frustrating tasks so much simpler.
I always say tools are toys.
