Owning an entire platform for just a couple of games? Didn't sit right with me. But if you find real incentive in it then go for it. Those games look great. Especially RDR2.

It has no sound, and you have to beat it once to unlock subtitles, so you'll have no idea what's going on the entire time. Most of these mobile games are paid, while a few are free but you can also pay a one-time only fee (so to speak) to make it ad-free (Virtua Tennis, Horizon Chase, BombSquad, Skate Party 3). That's my list. I hope you enjoy it, you can't go wrong with those, they're great games, not just time-wasters. Oh and on top of that, they're compatible with a Moga Hero Power, with no exception.
Man, 2018 was an amazing year for games. We got games like God of War, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Celeste, Spiderman, Monster Hunter World and Red Dead Redemption 2. And we got some great underappreciated games like Dragon Quest XI, Dead Cells, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Octopath Traveller and Detroit Become Human. What a great year, especially for PS4 owners. And my personal GOTY is Dad of Boi. :)
Yeah. 2018 was amazing overall. We got some disappoinents like Metal Gear Survive, Sea of Thieves, Fallout 76 etc. But all the good games made up for it. However 2019 looks even better. So many great games to look forward to.

Red dead is almost too good. Of course its not perfect but I was amazed with the amount of added content during your play through. You can't be bored when galloping with your realistic horse through realistic looking environments when you run into one interesting person or situation after another. Its so random and varied that I can't imagine how long it really took to make this game. It's worth your money and that's all you need to know.
Indeed. I had never heard of the series until I saw the first trailer for Valkyria Chronicles 4, and I must say, I am really enjoying the game. It is fantastic. Great story, interesting characters, fantastic gameplay, and its visuals have something that the visuals of something like God of War or Read Dead Redemption 2 lack: timelessness. It will age far better than those two games in the long run; I am certain of it. After really enjoying Valkyria Chronicles 4, I want to give the first game a try. Also, as a Fire Emblem fan, I think that a crossover between the two series could be fantastic.
its not an rpg though. i personally love western rpgs and seriously dislike most jrpgs. the VC series is a genre of its own. it has more in common with xcom other tactical strategy games than with rpgs
@@phillystevesteak6982 you can say the same for most tactical strategy games, but if there is the element of chance (randomised hit chances etc) you cant call it exactly a puzzle. a good puzzle requires only logic, not luck. on the rpg element.... maybe im just old and dry, but for me rpgs are only the games that depend on meaningfull dialog choices, like baldur's gate, DA1 etc. having levelups and such things doesnt make an *role playing* game

Really damn happy he mentioned Valkyria chronicles 4. Incredibly, incredibly, painfully, stupidly, absurdly underrated game. It’s awesome to see it get some recognition. I can’t say how much I was surprised by the first one and 4, I hope they keep the series going this strong.
Personally, I can't get on the hype for 4. I loved the first game exactly because it offered something new and told a wonderful story, whereas VC 4 recycled all gameplay from the first game (including it's flaws, like dumb enemy AI and overpowered scouts) with one new class as the only real change to gameplay, and I hated the story, I just couldn't stand all the overused anime tropes and I found the characters more annoying than Jar Jar Binks. There's maybe five well-animated cut-scenes in the game, but all the rest of the story just felt like a mediocre high-school drama to me, and it's a shame because I loved the first game exactly because it focused on the war without letting the comedy relief and characters bickering taking over the plot. The first game started with the protagonist as a civilian suddenly thrown into the war when enemy soldiers attack his hometown and we even see them throw a grenade against innocent civilians, after the attack both the protagonist and his friends are saddened by the lives lost. For comparison, game 4 starts with the protagonist already a tank commander leading a charge against an occupied village, but in the middle of battle he is sad because some pretty flowers got destroyed. Not because of being forced to kill for the first time or seeing the destruction of people's homes, but because some flowers got destroyed, plus I lost what little sympathy I had for the main cast when they occupied an imperial town and the heroes decided to fight their commander over their bacon rations, and how do they resolve the conflict? By staging a giant mock battle in the town square, forcing all civilians to hide in their homes while foreign soldiers happily destroy their public spaces for the sake of a petty argument over some bacon. And the game frames this as cute and whimsical act by the heroes. I'm not saying you aren't allowed to like the game, but I do think that the game and story has a very limited appeal to people who aren't giant fans of this kind of anime tropes and comedy relief characters overshadowing most of the plot.

I didn't feel DBFZ had a great story but it was entertaining for what it was. Good Android 21 is a character I want to see become canon. Also the game wrote Goku's naivety is a fun and endearing trait instead of using it as a crutch like Dragon Ball Super did. This licensed game wrote Goku better than the actual owners of the Dragon Ball IP. Then again, Spider Man for the PS4 also wrote Spider Man better than Marvel did.
We all knew the top 3 would be Spiderman, God of War and Red Dead Redemption. I also think it was a given that Spiderman will take the number 3 spot. For me God of War takes the game of the year but Red Dead is an incredibly polished experience as well. A great year for gaming and an even better year for Playstation. I'd go as far to say this has been maybe the most one sided year in history of PS vs Xbox battle.
Monster hunter world was my personal favorite of the year. I was shocked at my ignorance of not knowing this franchise sooner. The only downside of it was it’s party system, it was very clunky. Hopefully next game it’s seamless.
How about the constant grind and the lack of events on PC? I have 300 hours on it shared through ps4 and PC.... Really disappointed with the PC lack of content

Let's be real here. How can RDR2 get GOTY 2018? It is universally accepted that RDR2 has clunky controls, fake HDR implementation, inconsistent and unexplained gameplay mechanics (wanted, mask and bounty system), very old open-world gameplay design choices and a predatory micro-transaction system. I enjoyed the hell out of RDR2, but there's no way this can be GOTY in 2018.
Hell yeah, Dragon Ball Fighterz. I've put so many houres into this game and still haven't got bored of it. It's just so satisfying when you defeat a pink player in this game. Best db game of all time and idgaf about nostalgia.

I enjoy the multiplayer as a add on. The single player is great, but the extra content of the multiplayer adds a nice cushion for the longevity of the game. You know they'll be adding more content for the multiplayer as time goes on.

Red dead is almost too good. Of course its not perfect but I was amazed with the amount of added content during your play through. You can't be bored when galloping with your realistic horse through realistic looking environments when you run into one interesting person or situation after another. Its so random and varied that I can't imagine how long it really took to make this game. It's worth your money and that's all you need to know.

Indeed. I had never heard of the series until I saw the first trailer for Valkyria Chronicles 4, and I must say, I am really enjoying the game. It is fantastic. Great story, interesting characters, fantastic gameplay, and its visuals have something that the visuals of something like God of War or Read Dead Redemption 2 lack: timelessness. It will age far better than those two games in the long run; I am certain of it.
After really enjoying Valkyria Chronicles 4, I want to give the first game a try. Also, as a Fire Emblem fan, I think that a crossover between the two series could be fantastic.
VC4 has the great advantage of being the only game like it.

Biggest shock for me on this list was VC 4 I had given up on AJ getting into jrpgs I’m really happy that atleast one game has finally clicked with him
its not an rpg though. i personally love western rpgs and seriously dislike most jrpgs. the VC series is a genre of its own. it has more in common with xcom other tactical strategy games than with rpgs
He loves tactical stuff like that though. The War Hammer games included. Any tactical RPG I think he'd like. Fire Emblem, VC etc. :)

@@phillystevesteak6982 you can say the same for most tactical strategy games, but if there is the element of chance (randomised hit chances etc) you cant call it exactly a puzzle. a good puzzle requires only logic, not luck.
on the rpg element.... maybe im just old and dry, but for me rpgs are only the games that depend on meaningfull dialog choices, like baldur's gate, DA1 etc. having levelups and such things doesnt make an *role playing* game

Really damn happy he mentioned Valkyria chronicles 4. Incredibly, incredibly, painfully, stupidly, absurdly underrated game. It’s awesome to see it get some recognition. I can’t say how much I was surprised by the first one and 4, I hope they keep the series going this strong.
Very underrated sadly! It is such a good strategy rpg with an engaging story (even though it has it's cringey moments).
Personally, I can't get on the hype for 4. I loved the first game exactly because it offered something new and told a wonderful story, whereas VC 4 recycled all gameplay from the first game (including it's flaws, like dumb enemy AI and overpowered scouts) with one new class as the only real change to gameplay, and I hated the story, I just couldn't stand all the overused anime tropes and I found the characters more annoying than Jar Jar Binks. There's maybe five well-animated cut-scenes in the game, but all the rest of the story just felt like a mediocre high-school drama to me, and it's a shame because I loved the first game exactly because it focused on the war without letting the comedy relief and characters bickering taking over the plot.
The first game started with the protagonist as a civilian suddenly thrown into the war when enemy soldiers attack his hometown and we even see them throw a grenade against innocent civilians, after the attack both the protagonist and his friends are saddened by the lives lost. For comparison, game 4 starts with the protagonist already a tank commander leading a charge against an occupied village, but in the middle of battle he is sad because some pretty flowers got destroyed. Not because of being forced to kill for the first time or seeing the destruction of people's homes, but because some flowers got destroyed, plus I lost what little sympathy I had for the main cast when they occupied an imperial town and the heroes decided to fight their commander over their bacon rations, and how do they resolve the conflict? By staging a giant mock battle in the town square, forcing all civilians to hide in their homes while foreign soldiers happily destroy their public spaces for the sake of a petty argument over some bacon. And the game frames this as cute and whimsical act by the heroes.
I'm not saying you aren't allowed to like the game, but I do think that the game and story has a very limited appeal to people who aren't giant fans of this kind of anime tropes and comedy relief characters overshadowing most of the plot.
Joe playes dane central so hopefully he plays and reviews more japanesw games. sadly no persona5 and Nier. But i am glad h mentions jems like Valkyria and now also has tried playing MonHun World.

I didn't feel DBFZ had a great story but it was entertaining for what it was. Good Android 21 is a character I want to see become canon. Also the game wrote Goku's naivety is a fun and endearing trait instead of using it as a crutch like Dragon Ball Super did. This licensed game wrote Goku better than the actual owners of the Dragon Ball IP.
Then again, Spider Man for the PS4 also wrote Spider Man better than Marvel did.

We all knew the top 3 would be Spiderman, God of War and Red Dead Redemption. I also think it was a given that Spiderman will take the number 3 spot. For me God of War takes the game of the year but Red Dead is an incredibly polished experience as well. A great year for gaming and an even better year for Playstation. I'd go as far to say this has been maybe the most one sided year in history of PS vs Xbox battle.

Monster hunter world was my personal favorite of the year. I was shocked at my ignorance of not knowing this franchise sooner. The only downside of it was it’s party system, it was very clunky. Hopefully next game it’s seamless.
How about the constant grind and the lack of events on PC? I have 300 hours on it shared through ps4 and PC.... Really disappointed with the PC lack of content

Let's be real here. How can RDR2 get GOTY 2018? It is universally accepted that RDR2 has clunky controls, fake HDR implementation, inconsistent and unexplained gameplay mechanics (wanted, mask and bounty system), very old open-world gameplay design choices and a predatory micro-transaction system.
I enjoyed the hell out of RDR2, but there's no way this can be GOTY in 2018.

I enjoy the multiplayer as a add on. The single player is great, but the extra content of the multiplayer adds a nice cushion for the longevity of the game. You know they'll be adding more content for the multiplayer as time goes on.
