How to deal with Dublin tents - 'Somebody needs to grab this issue by the neck'
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 31. 05. 2024
- A Minister should be appointed specifically to deal with asylum seeker accommodation as tents grow in Dublin city, a Councillor has said.
Efforts are underway to find alternative accommodation for dozens of asylum seekers who have pitched tents in Dublin city.
Around 80 tents are along the Grand Canal in the capital.
It comes as the number of asylum seekers who arrived in Ireland in the first four months of the year has increased by 95% when compared to the same period last year.
Labour Councillor Dermot Lacey told Lunchtime Live the State has the capacity to house more people.
"It's not a solution for the people who are living in those awful conditions and it's not a solution for people who are living in the general area," he said.
"The solution is that the State starts to use the properties that the State currently owns to house people.
"Another thing that needs to be done is that IPAS needs to develop a more outreach service; so they will go out to the places that people are living in order to process these applications."

Newstalk? More like small talk useless talk and utter virtue signaling nonsense.
What do you propose is done then? Have you got a solution?
â@mrhoppy_9724 Yeah stop them coming in, easily done and problem solved.
â@@mrhoppy_9724 Yes, I have, send all the rejected applicants home. That's approx 70% of all asylum seekers who have already cost us taxpayers gazillions in legal fees and welfare. Free up thousands of spaces, tens of thousands in fact.
It's a fair system, if one is not entitled to be here, deport them and look after the successful applicants.
That prob won't suit you either, hah??

Nigeria is 13 times the size of Ireland. Surely there is a space for the Nigerian portion of the IPAS people in Nigeria. Nigeria has space program which costs 70 million every year. Their National debt is half of ours so why do we have to help these people and not look after our own interests...
They are the worst scam artists in Africa. Only virtue signalling clowns like the Irish government would allow all those scam artists into the country.
We don't! This is a choice!
Over simplified about the economic and safety state of Nigeria, its a country facing absolute poverty, terrorism (boko haram etc) killing hundreds each week, electrical instability, extremely poor roads conditions, overpopulation and slums in some parts. @@evie5631 Nigeria is not Ireland's problem. The problems you listed exist in countries all across the planet. Should Ireland keep taking thousands from these countries every year until we're a minority in our own country? The Irish people say no thank you. Enough is enough.

So the solution is to provide more accommodation? There are over 230m people in Nigeria alone, a single country. The people already here will want to bring in their families when they are granted asylum, so does the Irish govt keep building enough accommodation for unlimited numbers..
Isnât it time to put a cap on the number coming into the country? The local doctors practice told the locals that they couldnât take on anymore new patients from the town but the government has decided that they have to take on the migrants who have arrived in the town. So in addition to creating resentment because the locals canât avail of the services of their local doctors office and have to go out of town for a doctor, the doctors are taking on more patients than they have capacity for. So who picks up the tab if someoneâs diagnosis is missed because the doctors are overwhelmed? It is ridiculous

Why are they still letting them in when we have thousands homeless already on the streets ,
And those thousands of Irish homeless should be out protesting. Are they ????????
There's no money in the Irish homeless , but lots of money in the illegal immigration business .
What have you ever done to help the homeless Mary ?? SFA Iâll bet !
Dublin will look like an absolute slum soon enough no tourists will come the warehouse hotels in the city centre will end up being used for economic migrants as soon as tourism collapses. It will be like San Francisco or Portland in USA.

Both. It's a great little package deal!
the more the state looks after everyone, the more will want to in and the problem will get worse
They need to put as much energy into housing the Irish as they are to housing the world. It took them a month or so to prepare a building to house 320 in Ballybrit, Galway rent free but anyone Irish trying to work and find accommodation in Galway is either priced out or getting fleeced and to top it off their taxes are used to subsidize the new arrivals. Absolute madness. If there was at least a level playing field for all then the anger might not be so raw.

We owe them nothing.
There are too many T.D.s already, and not one of them has demonstrated any empathy for the Irish people. We are not the dumping ground for every countries economic immigrants. Our own young people cannot get on the housing ladder ( the latest data states that you would need an income of âŹ150k to get a mortgage ). We heard none of the talking heads worrying about the ordinary Irish peoples struggles. This gentleman is typical of the politicians and civil servants, do nothing practical to solve an issue but form committees , ministries, consultancy groups that will hold endless meetings that are nothing but talking shops. Vote them all out. They hate Ireland and the Irish people.

What is wrong with the guy on the phone!
Get gov. owned properties etc to help solve this immigration problem!
The solution lies in the big picture consisting of the gov. Accepting this when it's really not mandatory and can follow in Denmark's footsteps on an international legal stance.
The whole effort that's happened already with using and building accommodations for immigrants should always have been done for homeless Irish including other similar categories of Irish people.
That must be done, this is absolutely inhumane to those Irish most in need.
And the gov. step up and deal with EU demands on IM properly!
Turn Spike Island into a refugee clearance centre (not a prison) where refugees are guaranteed safety, warmth, a bed, food and services while their application is processed. No they are not free to go where they like around the country during the process but who believes someone can live on the small allowance they are granted without turning to the black market or crime....Look at Spike Island on a map and while a major overhaul is required it is needed going forward and a worthwhile investment.
Let them live in tents there are a load of islands around Ireland why not move those to islands and problem solved
This is what happens when you have a government with no backbone the more you home the more will come
He does not have any answers, just the usual dribble coming out of his mouth. We need to realise they do not work for the Irish but work for the EU agenda.
The Irish homeless should pitch their tentâs beside the Asylum seekers and refugees and when the government delivers accommodation for them they have to do the same for the Irish homeless then the government would have no excuses that would push them into a corner, the international media will cover the situation and expose the coalition,
All the tents look identical??? Why is that??? NGO'S?? In stead of a new minister to sort this out what about sacking o'gorman? Jesus!
But isn't clear that if you now move this group and to accomodation then the next encampment will develop again and again etc
Get the ipas office out of dublin to the north of ireland on the boarder
Another minister ... Nonsense
Give them all council houses that Irish people have been waiting for years to get. Usual solution in the rest of Europe. Wake up.
The solution is to make a deal with Britain to stop them offloading refugees to Ireland through the north, its abuse of the common travel area agreement.
I would rather see them in tents than see them in doorways.
Who provides all those tents?
Send home those that have no right to be here and free up space for genuine asylum seekers , you cant empty a reservoir into a glass , simple maths and stop pretending you don't know what the solution is , you are media , start representing the public.

Darby O'Gill on the radio!
First, we need to get immigrants to bring their paperwork because that is slowing down that system. We need to adopt a position like the UK. Everyone who arrives without paperwork is sent to another country to await processing.
Then, we can deal with the real immigrants that have paperwork.
Nigeria has now been declared a safe country.
Supposing 2 million more come to Our Country,, what then
Suppose we will be told to move out of our homes so they can move in. Irish homelessness doesn't seem to count, so we will all be okay in doorways, once these lads are are looked after and safe.
Shame on you all for this gaslighting to give a old hand minster a cash cow

How about if you all have done you jobs properly we wouldn't be in this huge amount of bull mess you have you in!!! I can't even listen to this propaganda anymore its so frustrating
They need to speed up process to see if people allowed staying not straight to detention centre and flight out. Also no one arrives without papers airlines will be charged alot of money if passenger has no I.d. or passport while embarking and leaving plane so obviously they are "getting rid "once off plane. Most people who arrive want to work here but lve heard people from Jordan and such arriving we really need to tackle the single people living in hotels etc and families we can't afford to take in more people until we have dealt with people already here.
They want to camp near the protection centre to connect to the WIRELESS there for their WHATS APP....so they can contact home and tell family and friends how they are doing....
Can the signal be intercepted and turned off.
Do NGOs provide brand name tents for Irish homeless ?
No
The only solution is the minute they report to claim asylum or money from social you then take them to the docks or airport and send them back..a few weeks i think of this would stop the flow arriving.
Definitely docks, cheaper, can load more, may provide antidote for bad behaviour - seasickness.
Who's providing the tents
Wakey wakey...
Disgusting
Are you people having a laugh. Please please speak with reason and logic. the solution is, stop the invasion into the country, but noone in main stream media wants to say it.. Why does noone talk about the Irish living on the streets, they're not even included in any conversation.
