How to deal with Dublin tents - 'Somebody needs to grab this issue by the neck'

  • A Minister should be appointed specifically to deal with asylum seeker accommodation as tents grow in Dublin city, a Councillor has said.
Efforts are underway to find alternative accommodation for dozens of asylum seekers who have pitched tents in Dublin city.
Around 80 tents are along the Grand Canal in the capital.
It comes as the number of asylum seekers who arrived in Ireland in the first four months of the year has increased by 95% when compared to the same period last year.
Labour Councillor Dermot Lacey told Lunchtime Live the State has the capacity to house more people.
"It's not a solution for the people who are living in those awful conditions and it's not a solution for people who are living in the general area," he said.
"The solution is that the State starts to use the properties that the State currently owns to house people.
"Another thing that needs to be done is that IPAS needs to develop a more outreach service; so they will go out to the places that people are living in order to process these applications."

So in addition to creating resentment because the locals can’t avail of the services of their local doctors office and have to go out of town for a doctor, the doctors are taking on more patients than they have capacity for. The whole effort that's happened already with using and building accommodations for immigrants should always have been done for homeless Irish including other similar categories of Irish people.
That must be done, this is absolutely inhumane to those Irish most in need.

First, we need to get immigrants to bring their paperwork because that is slowing down that system. We need to adopt a position like the UK. Everyone who arrives without paperwork is sent to another country to await processing.
Then, we can deal with the real immigrants that have paperwork.

They need to speed up process to see if people allowed staying not straight to detention centre and flight out. Also no one arrives without papers airlines will be charged alot of money if passenger has no I.d. or passport while embarking and leaving plane so obviously they are "getting rid "once off plane. Most people who arrive want to work here but lve heard people from Jordan and such arriving we really need to tackle the single people living in hotels etc and families we can't afford to take in more people until we have dealt with people already here.

The only solution is the minute they report to claim asylum or money from social you then take them to the docks or airport and send them back..a few weeks i think of this would stop the flow arriving.
