- A guide on how to gain access to the mono wiper on the W202 (other models probably similar). I do not cover how to replace the gear inside the transmission, it's possible to do but IMO it's worth simply buying a new transmission. If you lube the transmission once a year the new transmission's gear will never wear out.

Went to numerous mechanics and no one was able to fix it. Was told to order a new motor, transmission and other parts and that still didnt work. I watched your videos and followed it carefully, guess what? Worked like magic! Thank you so much for this tutorial sir, you're awesome!!
After the task of removing mine it was a loose nut that was easily tightened. I used Locktite on it. Many thanks for the informative video. Lubed up, it's very quiet.
Oh, my dingus was intact.
This video has been a blessing. My friend and I couldn't figure out why the wiper wasn't working after replacing the motor. Turns out we didn't have the transmission points lined up and the bar wasn't in the correct position as was clearly noted in this video. May blessings be upon you and your family for many generations.
Glad my video helped! That's why I do them!
👍👍👍👍👍
Really the first instruction I find, where it is described how to align the rods correctly
👍👍👍👍👍
Great explains ❗❗❗❗❗
Many thanks
This helped me a great amount today, thank you!
Thanks for watching! Glad it helped!
Very good explanation.
Very Usefull. Thanks
Thanks a bunch! I could service ours with the help of this vid.
Hi ..thanks for this video..saved me at least $ 800 for this repair !!! Super video.
Glad you found it useful, thanks for watching!
Your intro got me 😂😂 "Doesn'tfuckinworkamatitis"
Thank you so much.
Thanks a lot for this video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Pls help, how can I bring back the wiper arm into its original position
While cleaning the windshield I bended the wifer arm, too bad I cannot bring it back to its proper position. Pls help
Dude I can’t believe I did this but I completely disassembled my unit had to wait several weeks for the rubber gasket to show up went to put it back together and forgot where two stainless steel washers go… Have you ever totally disassembled yours question is do they go behind the snap ring on the wiper piston or do they go on main shaft for the transmission? They fit exactly on both. I can’t believe I forgot.
Sorry, I never disassembled the transmission. When mine broke (a long time ago), I just replaced it.
Hey Pat, love the vid: I hear the motor very well and loud but no movement. My mechanic said it needs a new motor, with another opinion, would you say its the motor or linkage or both? thank you
Motor sound + no movement at all is probably the exact same problem I had, the nut on the motor side of the linkage backed off. Follow my procedure to remove it and inspect it visually. You can move the linkage by hand once you've got the whole thing out, it will be easy to see if the nut is tight enough to engage the motor shaft. If you can spin the linkage without moving the motor, that's the problem. The linkage is not splined, it's just a friction fit, so if the nut backs out even a little bit, it slips. Put some blue loctite on it when you put it back together.
@@PatsCarGarage Thank you ever so kindly and I am sure I can keep you posted! God Bless.
@@PatsCarGarage what tool do you use again for the tightening of the nut? ty
@@apalboi1985 Just an open ended wrench. You will have to jam a screwdriver into the linkage to prevent it from moving while tightening it.
shout out to you, where was this video last week? Now mine is missed up and rests on the hood. >_________>
Does that big cap snap off at the base of the wiper arm and is there then a bolt or nut on a stud so the arm can be removed in order to replace the rubber grommet, seal, without having to go through that process you showed? My grommet is completely perished. Yours looked brand new.
By the big cap you mean the plastic cover that protects the mechanism? If so than yes it does come off, you should have already been taking it off once a year to grease the mechanism ;) I'm not sure which grommet you are referring to though... If it's something that requires the wiper / linkage / motor to be removed from the car than yes you need to do what I did.
@@PatsCarGarage thanks Pat. Yes, I mean the big plastic cap on the very base of the arm. The rubber grommet is the part that seals the unit against the glass and keeps water from going in around the base of the unit. Mine is literally falling apart. I have a new one I paid over $100 for.
@@wernerdanler2742 Just for the grommet? That's crazy expensive. A Few years ago I bought an entire transmission for about 200$? I forget, but it was not that expensive (my old transmission had failed). I suspect that you do need to remove the entire unit to get access to that grommet, but I'm not sure.
@@PatsCarGarage some of these items are rare and hard to find so you end up paying a premium for them. It is a genuine Mercedes part. I found one for $75 a year ago but held off thinking I could get it later. It went pretty fast and this is the first one I have seen since so bit the bullet and paid. Mine is badly deteriorated probably due to the heat here in Vegas.
Now I just have to talk myself into putting it on. The thought of having to take it apart just for that makes me cringe. I have had a stroke a few years ago and am 71 years old so I don't look forward to doing it. I also have to replace the door stop on the drivers door. One of the ball bearings actually popped out. That only cost $28. Made in China, of course. It has to go in from the inside so have to take the door card off. I really regret wanting another Mercedes.
When I try to tighten the nut the motor moves; either way. How do I fix this?
counter-hold the shaft somehow. You see me do this by jamming in a screwdriver.
Your "passenger" side is my driver's side. How does the park position alignment differ from what you have shown?
The transmission side would be aligned to the other mark on the transmission's case (there are 2 alignment marks). On the motor end, you would have the large part of the long arm of the linkage aligned with the bottom of the mark, rather than the shorter arm which bolts to the motor. Essentially that shorter arm would be rotated by 180 degrees. If you wanted to have the wiper park straight up, you would have to eyeball both ends, but that's why there is some play at both ends of the transmission (the wiper doesn't actually park or reach the transmission's maximum travel if everything is aligned correctly). The play is there to prevent binding of the mechanism should the alignment not be ideal, so if you ever want it to park straight up, you have to be pretty careful.
Hey Pat, I watched the vid, but still cannot remove turtle cover, its on tight as hell! any advice plz and thank you, ps: new motor put in and wipers only working correctly when arm in upright position, very strange any ideas as well thank you?
You can use a small pry tool to remove the cover if it's stubborn. You should feel around the underside of the cover at the base for 2 cutouts, that's where you should pulling / prying.
What do you mean the wiper only works in the upright position?
Pat's Car Garage When you bend the arm up and it is away from the window the motor turns it correctly when you prop it back down onto the window it hardly moves and stops in the middle
Which I would think tells me the motor is working fine but how do I get the windshield wiper to work normally on the window instead of just when the arm is propped up
I also use the lithium grease today and that worked for a moment and sprayed it underneath where the springs are too in the middle of the arm and cover
@@apalboi1985 You say you changed the motor, did you put the nut that connects the linkage back on pretty tight? It's good to also put some medium-strength thread locker because it can back out. If it's a little loose, it might be holding just strong enough that when the wiper is under no load (up from the window) then it can turn it but if it's under load, then the motor's shaft slips on the linkage.
I'd remove the whole transmission, remove both nuts, clean the threads, put some thread locker on and tighten the bejesus out of it. Last thing you want is what happened to me and have your wiper stop working in the middle of a giant storm :)

As i was driving yesterday, The windshield wiper stopped in the middle as i was using it. So i pulled over and paused it down to the passenger side. After that it has not worked. As i turned on the car this morning the wiper motor turned on but the wiper didn't move. What could it be?
Is the motor still ok? , just a few screws came loose or the gears broke on the motor ?
or
I need to replace the motor?
Probably the exact same problem as I have in the video
@@PatsCarGarage I will work on it over the weekend and update you, Thank You for posting the video and responding back!!
Hey pat, I opened the motor and checked the no on my motor is 10 and the one in video is 12 does that make a difference in aligning the arm ? Also it goes one way and dosent come back unless I assist with a little push.
@@ParminderSingh-kn5cc Sounds like you have to redo the alignment. If you got it wrong it's possible the mechanism binds and will stop rotating, which is why you need to give it a push. Try aligning it again, I remember my first time doing this I had to redo it a second time to get it right.
@@PatsCarGarage i aligned the wiper arms twice but no luck. I lubricated all joints and greased the wiper mechanism but it still sticks on the same side. I looked at the gears on where the motor is attached to the arm and they are good too. If i turn the wipers on and closely look main motor moving the gears, Nothing is slipping its just that the motor keeps making noise but doesn't move unless i give it a push.
Video was very helpful. However, the profanity makes it difficult to watch with sound on in case someone else is in the room. I don't really see the need for this in an auto instructional video but I guess if you have a limited vocabulary you can't help it. Maybe read more or take an english class at local community college. That will help build an adult vocabulary.
