Hey Jay!!!!!! So tickled to see the video of Helen. It was a pleasure meeting you. I promise this though, you are the first and last hitch hiker I pick up. There is no way I could ever pick up another one compared to you. I stop at perfection. Thank you for sharing your experience with myself and The Haufbrauhaus Restaurant. Stop in again when you finish your hike. FYI, I know about the AT just not the specifics. But after meeting and chatting with you I am going to plan a hike Not from start to finish, I will leave that to you. Plus I have to work. Be safe out there and I’m triply enjoying your videos. Dude, it's easy to see you are a great human; your spirit and vibe seem amazing. The videos are awesome too. I really enjoy all of the tips. Please keep that part up. It's wonderful for all of us that hope to do some longer hikes.
Love how you take it all in stride, broken washer and microwave...no big deal, working till 2 am to share your adventures with us, you're amazing...

I always wondered if the AT went through Helen- it was a favorite holiday place with my grandparents when I was younger. My thru hike will have to include this stop! Love the videos Jay!

Another great video. I am impressed with how cool, and even-keeled Jay is. He had a fiasco with his laundry - no big deal. Then his microwave breaks, no big deal. I wish I could be so accepting of things.
If you slept most of the night with that kerchief over your mouth, that probably also played a major role in minimizing the condensation inside your tent. Most of the moisture exhaled in your breath was captured in the fabric of the kerchief, or at least prevented from reaching the inner wall of your tent.
That meal in Helen was the “” wurst “” experience on the trail so far!!!

I have hiked all my life but never backpacked but my grandson did 600
Miles of the AT last year and I met him along with way and helped his group with rides into town.
So interesting to see Helen after all of these years. I remember visiting as a teen with a family friend back in the late 80’s.

Hey Jay,
Saw you did a quick check of your campsite as you left. There was a guy who did the AT in 2018 (I think) and I think his name was EarlyRiser_73. Anyway, he talked about using an "Accountability Rock." The idea was as you pack up your campsite, anything that was not in your pack was on or touched the rock. That with a quick check like you did really makes sure you don't leave anything behind. I used his system when I did the AT in 2019 an I never left anything behind. Enjoying your videos and will be watching until I take off on the PCT (yes, I watched your videos) in mid-April. Good luck and continue to enjoy the journey. There cannot be a better place to end a hike than Katahdin!

Great video! My son and I recently spent a weekend in Helen and did some hiking in the area to include a hike from Unicoi Gap to the Blue Mountain Shelter and back. That climb out of Unicoi Gap is no joke and isn't a fun descent when heading back down! I can't wait to see the rest of your journey! Keep moving!

Love your videos. I completed a NOBO in 2021 and spent the night in Helen. Fun town. It’s too cold for ticks FYI. I didn’t see any until northern VA. Permethrin is indeed your friend. Treated my clothes and never found a tick attached. Also, excellent call staying at Chica and Sunsets, saw a post of you on their Insta. Best hostel on trail IMHO! Best of luck and enjoy the hike. That blue blaze is the Jack's Knob Trail. It leads to Brasstown Bald, the highest peak in Georgia. Glad I found your channel.
I stay at the Surestay with Crazy Quilt last April. She finished her through hike last year. I loved Helen and want to revisit with my daughter.

The Haufbrauhaus is going on my list of places to visit. I saw the weisswurst in your opening and got excited! We had some in Austria a few years ago. Hope you had the good grainy, sweet mustard to go with them. Cute little town.

I'm only a couple hours drive from Helen so we go about once a year. Charming little town. I try to trout fish when I'm there. The German food certainly is different 😆
