It's funny because I'd seen the tv spots of wonder woman's cameo and then I totally forgot about it when I saw the movie and got surprised all over again lol
This is a weird.
The move to put Wonder Woman in the promo was a desperate move…the advance word was not good for this film.
And they knew it was going to have a steep second week drop off.
Also,it seems they’re a lot of excuses coming out to explain the failure of this film.
Now the reason this film didn’t do well was because of the timing of the Gunn announcements.
Announcing the end potentially of this DC Incarnation.
There’s nothing to be invested in.
That’s why no one came.
I would have rather not seen the spoiler that she was in it BUT it only makes sense that she's in it cos of the connection with Atlas, Zeus etc...How did she get to where they were btw? They were in a different realm correct?
I understand that it takes away from the experience but from a business stand point the goal is to get seats in the theater

It’s a little bit different though, Micheal Keaton isn’t just a cameo, he’s going to be in the movie a lot longer
To me this movie should have been a wonder woman movie, the plot and villains fit so well in wonder woman 's lore

Also, if this was a Wonder Woman movie, it could've been her bringing the Shazam family into Justice League/Young Justice
Except the big maguffin of the plot is the Staff of the Gods which plays a big part in the Shazam story and what Atlas’ daughters were after

Putting Wonder woman in the advertising was a hail mary move pure and simple. They had nothing to lose because she wasn't in the movie enough to enrich your movie enjoyment.
Dude Gal is terrible and was the worst part of the Wonder Woman movies. They did us a favor by not having her in it.

WB is very out of touch. You have a grounded superhero that is just sitting on the shelf with a backstory that would resonate with modern America (Green Arrow) You have 60 years of fanbase for Green Lantern, Dr. Fate, Hawkman, etc. Is it a wonder that WW and Aquaman made a ton of money?? Familiarity and continuity is the key. WB seems to not know this.
I’ve skipped out of Shazam 2 as I’m not bothered about waiting for streaming for that. It’ll be likewise for Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2…BUT I will be going to see The Flash. Great director, very talented cast, my 2 favourite Batmen, it’s revisiting the scenes from MOS which is my favourite DCEU movie and The Flash is my 4th favourite comic book character. Only behind Superman, Batman and Spider-Man.
This was obviously them panicking about this movie’s poor performance at the box office and so they put her in the ads because they were struggling to keep their heads above the water
I saw this movie yesterday and I really enjoyed it. I'm glad I didn't see that trailer that spoiled her cameo, so it was a nice surprise for me, especially with the fakeout of her they did earlier in the movie.
Didn’t have a choice, Threw a Hail Mary, was going to bomb regardless.

The Wonder Woman tv spot ruined the twist because we all knew she was coming and Shazam was in the background
I thought we learned after black Adam that 2 minutes cameos will never make or break fans going to see a movie. Something like dr strange in no way home or nick fury in captain marvel is different and any one can tell from those trailers that those would be extended cameos. Also the scene she was in was soooooo ridiculous. It felt straight out a 16 year olds fan fiction. Seeing great characters in mediocre scenes does nothing for me. It's a shame the movie underperforming though. I thought it was really fun over all.

i think john is wrong about if Marvel did it (technically they did with Prof X in Dr Strange 2) there is no blame on Cavill and Gadot, it is just people are paying to see a 2-3 hour movie not a 5 min clip. Cameos are nice but they don't sell seats unless they are playing a major role in the movie like the other two spidermen in no way home.
Exactly, can they focus on making a good movie first? Who’s paying full price for 20 inconsequential seconds in the end when that clip is on CZcams the next day?
The moment James Gunn and DC announced the reboot with 3 movies still in the shed; they ensured they were going to lose 100’s of millions from those 3 films.
It was a poor strategy.
I had no idea who the spoiler guest was, either way I wasn't hyped enough to run & watch 1st week 😉 I heard a couple mentions of a surprising guest inclusion & 1 podcast only stated that a spoily cameo was marketed in International spots/trailer? - That seems correct as I didn't know/see anything until I saw this YT vid on my feed 😆 (even with all the TV spots they'd been playing here in NZ, 2 month+ out from launch).
I think Wonder Woman being in this movie was planned from the beginning but I wouldn't be surprised if they did this on a whim to try spark more interest in Shazam 2. All I gotta say is James Gunn DCU got some big shoes and pot holes to fill. It's gonna be interesting to see how that unfolds cuz I already don't like the direction they are going with Superman.
As a fan of the DCU. I really was please to see Wonder Woman in it. I would had like to have seen Shazam in the Justice League. I thought Fury of Gods was alright but not great. Having Wonder Woman was the best scene for me. I actually preferred Black Adam than this second Shazam film . I was hoping to see a Justice Society movie, but thats now dead. It feels sad that DCU is finished. I wonder if comics films are on the decline. I did not like Suicide Squad.
I think shazam 2 will live on to be a cult classic. It is a genuinely funny movie and one of the funniest hero

If it was releas in the early 2000's yes it would have been a cult classic but that won't be the case for the sequel.
The Flash looks too good. People say it’s great, it’s got Michael Keaton in it!! But I’m worried if the trend of the DCEU being dead and nobody cares to watch, that it could fail. The Flash has a massive shot to succeed with two Batmans in it, but with Ezra’s troubles the and DCEU’s apparent irrelevance, I don’t know what will happen.
That's all fans want is "Continuity and familiarity!" That's why Flash will succeed. Spiderman no way home showed the way! Flash has a 70 year fan base. Shazam's over the top comic relief was the same thing that turned fans off from Thor love and thunder. The movie gets to silly for diehard hardcore fans. Black Adam failed for playing true to its origins. He's a villain, not an anti-hero. Black Adam should have been introduce in Shazam 2 as his antagonist (true to source material) Now the silly comic relief can play off each other.
I personally think it was a bad move to advertise Wonder Women's cameo in Shazam 2, especially since *SPOILERS*

Wonder Woman appears in the last scene of the film when she brings Billy Batson back to life as Shazam. So, it's kind of revealing the end to people, especially when they finally watch it and think to themselves, "Hmmm, why has the Wonder Woman scene not appeared yet???" I do think it was a mistake to have her cameo and to reference the Justice Society directly (same with the appearance of Harcourt and Economos) as their inclusion directly indicates odds are this version of Shazam is not making the cut for the new DCU. I'm sure DC does not see cutting this version as a mistake as they are just wiping the board clean so they can do what they want, but I thought this version of Shazam (same with Gadot as Wonder Woman, James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker) was one of the better things from the current DCEU.
I don't believe it's that nobody cares I believe that this is the ramifications for them not finishing Snyder's version of the Justice League movies that's what this is same thing happened with Star Wars
Yep! All the negative reviews and bad press has taken a heavy toll. Nobody cares anymore (Snyder's backstabbed, Amber Heards craziness, not standing behind Henry Cavill)

I think you got the wrong message here, John. People did care for the DCEU, they just cared when Snyder was on board. He wasn’t for everyone, but his fans were die hard. If Superman was in Black Adam on the same capacity that Garfield and Maguire were in NWH, people would’ve shown up. They won’t pay full price just to watch 20-30” in the end, when it was on CZcams the next day. Gotta make a good movie as well, you can’t just rely on 20 second cameos.
Then they axed Cavill and they announced that this universe is done, prior to Shazam 2’s release. That was completely idiotic, I don’t think anyone can put it in words just how ridiculously stupid that was. Gal showing up wouldn’t make a difference because we’re not even sure if she will stick around.
Idk, I like Gal as WW. I didn’t like the first Shazam and I went to the theater to see that. I didn’t have enough interest in Shazam 1 to see WW be a side-side character for a few minutes in Shazam 2 🤷🏾♂️ if it was a 3rd WW movie, I would’ve spent my money even tho I didn’t like WW84. I went to see Black Adam because I like the Rock. I love Henry as Superman, but I wouldn’t spend my money to see him be in a end credits scene in a movie for a character/actor I didn’t care for, whether it be BA or Shazam.
The fairest point is nobody cared because it wasnt going to lead into something, a cameo should either be good for the movie and lead to using the character in a type of headline project so that u can catch up on what is happening with that character, or memorable because it was something that can be reflected on- if people didnt really care for Shazam, they wouldnt really think about WW at all because she doesnt have anything substantial for her character
Even after the release of the Snyder cut and WW 1, tech WB destroyed their heroes, because not only did that not include and Use Superman, or even Batman because they didnt give Batfleck his solo film which he needed. WW movies are all set in the past and have no influence on current things going on, so they made them all essentially dead weight
Was it the right move? Yes, if they did more to tell us. I never once seen the trailer with her on TV or an ad on CZcams. So, they failed to let the average audience know and the population who love Wonder Woman who are casual viewers.
But also, alot of people don't care about the universe anymore in general. So, in a way it doesn't matter.
Having Wonder woman in the trailer didn't sway anyone to go see the movie. So having her in it was much ado about nothing. Honestly it was just " HEY LOOK EVERYBODY! IM WONDER WOMAN" kind of cameo that didnt really play much into the story other than to conveniently revive Billy

In shared universe I would have liked to have seen shazam, Wonder Woman and aqua man shared Greek roots expanded on and have them do movies together or even a comic about all three of them

I don’t agree that “nobody cares”. That’s kind of a bold statement. What I think it is, is that there’s still confusion. Why are you still making films that includes these cast members, in this world, that no longer exists? WB and DC studios is still a ball of confusion. Well to be fair knowing Wonder Woman is in the movie would change your experience, because you know at somepoint there is a scene with Wonder Woman and Shazam.
So at the end of the movie you'd think "Well they haven't shown that scene yet, so we know he comes back"
Like they could have shown the dream scene because that happens earlier in the movie, but they literally showed something that happens after a big surprise. 😅😅
Like sure, we didn't think Shazam would stay dead, but at least let us think he may be for a least a second. 😅😅

Really? I thought it was fan fiction status and the literal definition of deus ex machina. It's a fun popcorn movie so I didn't judge it too harshly or any thing but her showing up to speak 5 sentences under the most random circumstances ever didn't exactly captivate me much. Over all I really liked the movie though. Kinda think I liked it more than the first which makes me want to rewatch the first to make sure.

After seeing the movie as a whole, suspect the Wonder Woman Cameo was meant to be a surprise. Like the scene where Billy is having a dream about Wonder Woman, you don't see the face until she morphs into the Wizard, that was kinda a tease for later in the movie. With a combination of that and the uncertainty of Gal Gadot's future as Wonder Woman, her cameo would have been a delightful surprise.

I see a lot of valid points but I cant agree with the "DCEU is truly dead " statement. Black Adam was below average. But the main reason why Shazam 2 is not making the same buck is because of the conflict of interest between the fans and the studio. DCEU is not dead for fans, where as the studio executives want it dead.

@@purplespark8I individually went to the theatre's to watch the movie. It was a decent movie, good story, good action, good humour, right humour I would say, but didnt had the emotional pull the first one had . The only problematic point I find in this video for me is that they are trying to sell "DCEU is dead" statement, which generally speaking is not true. A lot of people can be seen supporting the synderverse and want it back, and are not happy with the state of DCEU actors in DCU from what has surfaced about the new DCU slate.
And I agree with about not boycotting movies. I would watch The Flash in cineamas regardless of what ll happen at WB Discovery because honestly Im excited for that movie.

Both Henry cavil cameo in black Adam and gal gadolinium in shazam 2 failed to do anything in the box office and those fans still want to defend the Snyder verse as if it can still be saved and be a box office sensation. The proof is in the numbers and not enough people especially the casuals support it enough for it to be kept alive. They were talented but it was the upper management that ruined it although the suppose cavil contract dispute hurt him in the long run making Superman movies I think.
Warner bros. Should quit the terrible formula from Disney/Marvel and forget about DC films . Before is too late and the industry totally destroyed.
Sadly at this point I agree with this. Comic book movies have been milked too much for far too many years. I started feeling fatigued with comic book movies around the time Wonder Woman came out in 2017 and I have been a big DC fan for years. The genre has been overexposed. Stop making the movies for a few years and let the genre rest

They don't care for C-tier characters. Especially in a dying DCEU about to be rebooted.
If Zachery Levi told everyone "I'll definitely be in the DCU, so u better see the movie", (like Marvel promoted the Captain Marvel movie as being essential for Endgame), more people would've cared. The truth is that people don't care to see a movie for its own value, especially if it's a C-tier character. You really think a small WW cameo is enough to make a film successful?
Especially when WW 1984 was also a flop, it would be insane to think WW would put Shazam over to bring a big amount of people into theaters.

Black Adam had a decent opening weekend but critics and word to mouth wasn't good.
Had they announced MOS2 starring Henry Cavill, that movie would have hit the billion mark.

No we are not. We may be seeing some fatigue of mediocre films, but NOT fatigue from merely a genre. It’s only a matter of time before the next great superhero film, then everyone will be reminded of why the genre is as popular as it is.
It's not a good sign if you have to lure in the viewers through actors and characters instead of good storytelling. It worked for No Way Home but they can't keep doing this for every movie they're not confident in. Maybe don't shoot movies for lead characters no one is interested in.

That only works if the movie functions as a stand alone. Joker and The Batman do function within their own little continuity and people didn’t care if it tied to something bigger. Shazam is legitimately a part of that universe, so if it’s not going anywhere, it’s like saying “you should watch episode 5 of an already mid series and enjoy it, even though the show was cancelled”
@@alexman378 I don't agree. Movies like Shazam can easily be made to function on their own, if they don't mention the happenings of previous movies. Shazam (I've only watched the first part) didn't even have anything to do with any other superheroes apart from one-line references and the headless Superman cameo.
Besides, there will be a lot of viewers who are new to the universe and this may be the first movie related to it.
