- The iPhone 12 Mini is the smallest of the new iPhones, with a 5.4-inch OLED screen in an aluminum body. It uses the same A14 Bionic chipset as the rest of its stablemates. It also works with MagSafe for easy attachment of accessories like card holders and cases, as well as wireless chargers. Engadget recently got our hands-on an early unit. This is basically the design fans wanted for the iPhone se 2.
1000%, I preordered today and am so excited to get it.
Prediction: the future iPhone SE3 will share the mini 12 case and screen design but with whatever the next processor. Apple may or may not expand the “Pro” lineup with the mini form factor,, but maybe a 120 Hz Screen? But I’m getting ahead of myself. Although I’m looking at the 12 Pro Max as my next phone, the 12 mini is already a great in terms of form factor, and if I weren’t going that route, I’d totally pick the iPhone 12 mini over the “regular” iPhone 12.

I have a feeling that the iPhone 12 Mini is going to sell like hot cakes. (I can’t wait to get to my local Apple store and check one out) Apple’s competition is going to be forced to respond with building high end compact phones to get any market share in this space.

@@bodiejarvis It's a compact flagship the likes we haven't seen since the 5s, and it has the iphone 4/5 style design, which to me is the most beautiful smartphone design ever dreamed up, by far. If it has acceptable battery life to me it's a must have phone. The only reason I'd wait a year is for the power button fingerprint scanner and the bigger battery the 13mini will probably have.

Be honest, this iphone just have a normal size. The other phone are just too big and not ergonomic, none of them fit in a pocket 😅 This is just the perfect size.

@@ojasthengadi9681 yes, it's actually smaller in size to iphone 7 by physical dimensions, but it's much larger screen real estate too. Holding "small phone" with modern design like this feels exciting for me, it's substantially smaller than my ROG 3 and my 11 pro max but feels full because how efficient the screen ratio compared to any small phone right now. I say modern design because this design is bezelless approach although by today android standard it's not amazing but you know what I mean.
Maybe, I would pick this one and sold my 11 pro max (not because 12 mini is better but the size is what I'm aiming for), and continuing use some mammoth size android phone here for multimedia.
Personally I prefer bigger phones but it's always good to have a choice.

EXACTLY. Phones got bigger and bigger after the first couple iterations of the iPhone. iPhone 3 was weirdly shaped, but iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4s perfected the size and shape. iPhone 5 and 5s got a little bigger, but it was extremely light and easy to use. Then you come to the iPhone 6, 7, 8, X, Xs Max, 11, 11 Pro, and 12, and they are all MASSIVE to me. They're so damn uncomfortable to hold in my hand. I got the regular iPhone X, and I can't imagine using the X-Max size.
Edit: not to mention the phones got heavier and heavier due to more premium materials, more tech packed inside, and just a heavier design in general. I want a super-light iPhone again.
This is a huge deal to me as I use my phone a lot, and there's just not a market for small phones, *_at all_*. I could rant so much about this. Give me a full-screen updated 2020 iPhone 4s, and I'll be happy for a long time.

Thank God for a powerful Compact phone. We get maybe 1 or 2 smaller compact flagship phones every other year usually. The last great one in memory is the SE 2020 and Samsung galaxy S10e.
This one is barely a compact, the SE 2020 definitely not. There hasn't been a compact phone from a major brand since the original SE (Sony stopped making small phones after the Z5 compact, their later compact models weren't compact, Google Pixel started out bigger,. iPhone 7 and the Sony XZ1 compact came close, but too close to the 140g mark). The 12 mini at 133g (non-US model) in my mind just barely qualifies as a compact phone but it's the smallest we've seen in a while and I will vote for that with my wallet. I'd like to see something below 120g and would prefer them to ditch the metal and glass in favor of RF transparent composites to get the weight down.
I wouldn't call the S10e compact, I'm typing on one right now and it's still pretty big compared to older smaller phones. The iPhone 12 Mini is the closest we're gonna get right now to a true compact phone
@@eajohnson By today’s standards it definitely is a compact phone. Every phone in today’s marker are 6 inches or above and some are even close to 7 inches mark. We don’t even see any phone with 5.8 or 5.5 inch display whereas mini has only 5.4 inch display.

Yup, this is the upgrade I’ve been looking for. The compact size combined with the same internals as the standard iPhone 12 makes the Mini super compelling.

It looks really nice. The compact size yet high screen to body ratio more than anything. Pre-ordered mine. Will test it for a few days to see if I like it enough to keep it. Just recently got the pixel 4a also due to its small form factor. Definitely will not be keeping both. But I have to try before I decide which one to send back. I hope the mini's battery life is good. That is my biggest concern.

This is the design original SE users wanted for the SE 2020. I would move the power button to the top right and move the back camera to the other side. I’d like the aux port back. Get rid of the notch at the top. Increase the battery life. It’s a great phone that feels good in your hands and pockets. I hope they continue to make improvements and come out with a pro version. I can’t stress enough how comfortable it feels being held.

@@xxdropdeadxx6679 The components are already the same between the 12 mini and the Pro models. The difference is mainly the aluminum body and the lack of the Lidar scanner. I don’t see how it “wouldn’t make sense” for the mini to be a Pro model. People buy the mini for its size. Just because a phone is smaller doesn’t mean that it should have less features/be less premium.

The argument for including it is that the phones will be futureproofed when 5g is more widespread.
Wishlist: mini with thickness of a 4s for 2 day battery life, no notch, fingerprint scanner, 120hz refresh. Don’t know why thinner n lighter is a thing with smaller phones. Much rather have better battery. Also, multitasking split screen like on android/Samsung. Just sayin.
For somebody buying this phone to use for 2, 3 or more years having 5G now even with the smaller battery saves them from having to upgrade again earlier. The number of people I know who are perfectly fine charging their phone 2, 3 or more times a day or having it plugged in most of the day is astonishing.

Honestly wish there was a Pro Mini. I’ve been a Max user for 2 years and a Pro Mini would be interesting. I can’t go without a tele but I would’ve given up the Pro Max IBIS for that.

@Mister I guess that was because they have worse battery life than last years models, but that doesn’t mean that these have bad battery, just that the 11’s had a really good one. Tbh people buying the iPhone mini won’t be doing it for the battery life. I just preordered one knowing it won’t be great but I’m doing it for the form factory. If I wanted big battery I’d go for an 11 or Max model, or just get a portable charger

@@saeed05 you’re right! Just expecting 4-5 hours use from Mini and 6-7 hours use from 12 and that also degrade over time.
@@janieraltreche1989 it’s just opposite of what you’ve said, nowadays hardware and software technology is way ahead then 4s era, it consumes more power. So whether you are using iOS or Android, you have to compromise on battery life. Why can’t Apple increase 1k or 2k mAH in battery, when everything is being served premium? It’s Busniss 🙂

I wish more phone manufacturers could do the same. I like old iPhones, iPhone SE, and the Pixel 4a just because of the size.
