    Haven't even had time to play an AoS 2nd edition game yet. Or 9th edition 40k. By the time you collect and paint an army and learn the rules, a three year rotation is a "blink of an eye."

    • @tinyfishhobby3138
      @tinyfishhobby3138 Před 3 lety +10

      I have core rules and battletomes for AoS 2nd and have never played either. I got maybe 20 games of 40k in total before the pandemic and the edition change. As a result, I’m done buying books from GW unless I have an army ready to play said game, and the time to dedicate to it. The edition churn is too much to keep up with.

    Regarding the new ork look, I remember seeing an interview with a GW employee way back when they first started making LOTR minis. He mentioned that LOTR had made them better at designing minis in general, because suddenly they had to learn make a tiny Aragorn that needed to look like a real person, and be recognizable as Viggo Mortinsen's character. This gave them a challenge that Warhammer had not up to that time, and taught them techniques about realism.
    They continue to refine their art all the time. I actually like the new look.

    Looking to dip my toes into AOS, I wanted to check out the spearhead box for the Stormcast Eternals at my local game store. The owner told me about this box, highly recommended it, and said he'd sell it for $100.
    Coming from 40k, I was pretty shocked at the amount of plastic I had gotten in this box, and with this box being $40 less and having pretty close to quadruple the minis, I'm pretty happy with it.

  • @TheDigitalThreat

    Just picked up this box for $120 sealed. Couldnt find it on the GW website, but still some for sale on amazon. I still haven't finished my dang blood angel army but couldnt pass up the price for so much plastic. After hearing how next month most prices are going up and how annoyed I am with GW prices to begin with I figured I mine as well take a good deal while I could find one.

      Yeah this box went down to 99 euro at a local webshop here in The Netherlands. Im really tempted because it just seems an outragous deal for 60 models and a 360 page hardcover book. Its just that I really dont have any connection with the Age of Sigmar stuff. I mean, I actually really thinking if I would bother to assemble and paint these, even if I got them for free. I just dont feel that itch to get into AoS for some reason.
      The orks look kinda cool, but these Stormcast guys seem terribly generic. All the lore seems so forced, artificial and convoluted. Just way too far from the all the "High Fantasy" principles to a point its just all a bit meaningless.
      I just wish we had old Warhammer Fantasy back I know and love from my youth, and these were just regular orcs and empire armies or something, with updated visuals and rules, then I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

I have over 7,500 points of BA to still finish painting before I even care to finish this box.

    The most fun my gaming group had was combining the PtG rules with the Firestorm box campaign, and I just hope the system can be "ripped" free of the rulesframe without too much hassle - the proper rules previews were less than enticing.

    Regarding the skinny, more realistic, more scary looking Kruleboyz: my sneaky suspicion is that GW is jump aboard the D&D train. After all, if you need minis for your D&D campaign you can use AoS freeguild, skeletons, ogres, trolls, etc, etc - but the GW orcs aren't much like their D&D counterparts. These ones look a lot closer in size, build and appearance.

      I don't think so. They make their new stuff at 32mm bases which is near unusable on a 25mm grid (doesn't seem right on large creatures, doesn't fit a 25mm square). They also don't want an influx of other vendors, and usually sculpt their stuff to not match that. They do fit the aesthetics of the mid to late '80's orcs very well though.

    My family, while on vacation, stumbled into a Games Workshop store a couple of years ago, by total mistake. We got interested in the whole concept and bought the Soul Wars box that day. We found the rules books so frustrating that we actually put it up for a couple of years. Eventually, watching way too many CZcams videos we figured it out (I think) and have been playing and painting a bit. We really enjoy the models and painting, but I don't think I will ever again buy a GW rules book. If we ever decide to get into a different game, it will be from some other company.

    About the new design style of spindly, skinny, fragile miniatures it is the way to combat piracy, because plastic has incredible properties that can't be replicated by pitare resin miniatures (or the result is so fragile that is not practical). Now modern resin 3d printing does not has those constraints...
