In the Warhammer universe both fantasy and 40k I see the opposing forces more along the lines of chaos and order, instead of good and evil, which is a different dynamic than good versus evil. I think for historical games which I play mostly these days part of the research is finding out why they went to war.

I have a pretty stringent hobby budget. It's small, but it's the only way I've found to stay on top of the spending. I still have a pile of potential from before, but the growth of the pile is in the negative, so, yah!

OnePageRules saved the hobby for me and my friends. Cool models and even better rules. 3d printing and plaing OPR is the best thing happend for me in wargaming.

I had my Proxxon for about 6 months before I "dared" to use it. Now I use it a lot to make terrain. I got my guide for it from @WylochsArmory and that works really well.

Good stuff! I'm currently working on some Trench Crusade guys & gals myself. Couldn't resist the call of the Heretic Legions between Naval Raiding Party frogmen & the Artillery Witch pulling 2000lb bombs out of hammerspace they're just too dope. Trying to thread the needle between dieselpunk, steampunk, grimdark & weird war, harder than you'd think.

You should definitely look into Black Powder Red Earth. It's similar to InCountry, it has amazingly detailed models, comic books for lore, and multiple variations of map and army sizes for an amazing variety of gameplay. It utilizes the insides of buildings well.

As badass as the art and the setting looks, Be forewarned on Trench Crusade folks. There was a recent Kerfuffle last week where the discord they were hosted on did a lot of banning of people they disagreed with politically (without much political talk even happening, mind you). The creators have since made a new discord, but have made it clear that though they ban “political talk”, they still allow one sides politics a pass from the rules. Funny, given their setting is literally the Catholic Church fighting the invading forces of literal Hell and yet allow politics in only the opposite direction. Just a heads up in case people don’t want to financially support that kind of hypocrisy. (Remember, you can always pirate of course)

Not sure if it's a local UK thing but we have more game stores than ever! In 2008 when starting we only had a few GWs, now we have a load of great indies.

I'm literally using my godhands now to build the Hand of Archon killteam. And I'm finding that the sprues are packed so tight and so fiddly that I'm not getting the benefits I normally do with these clippers. But they are my favourites.

One additional thought to add, a lot of these games are independent small games ran by small companies. The support for Steel Rift, from Death Ray Designs, from this video has been awesome! We’re a small company with a handful of employees and all of you who have taken the dive into the game? You’re not online helping us grow the game, you’re making sure we have food for our tables. WH 40k art is uninspiring. One of my problems with WH fantasy was how disturbing the art was, some of those pieces of art are in the list of things I wish I had never seen.

I keep seeing 1page rules popping up. As someone who doesn't play 40k (since 6th edition) what are you all reffering to?

I use the light rust enamel wash from Ammo, and can concur: those bottles are rubbish. I need to put mine in a different bottle as well. Great paint though.

Working as normal. they play catch and release all the time. Past programs include Mordheim. Gorka Morka, Necromunda, Battlefleet Gothic, Warmaster, and so on. They plan new releases when the buy in is good and support them for a year or so till sales drop off before dropping them. Problem is, many have walked away never to return. I will not buy new stuff when I have hundreds or even thousands of dollars tied up in product you no longer support.

Wild bears are nicer then most game stores sadly. I've taken to solely going to the board game cafe to order TTRPG and mini supplies because 1) they will actually order things on request 2) there's no f-ing groping by staff or refusing to sell to women or any other sexism. Sad to think this is an almost 5 year old video and still as true as when I started getting into the hobby decades ago.

The toxic attitude GW has embraced toward lore and fans is a big part. Why pay such premium prices to a company that intentionally underproduces to spark FOMO, sells immediately outdated books, and hates you? 😂

I have a couple of lgs's in close vicinity, and they do decently well for wargames. For context I'm in the UK, & i'm also not a wargamer by hobby (although i have been in the past) - I'm now one of those ccg people. But anyway: point...... These local lgs's i speak of all charge for their tables. It's not particularly expensive - most places £5 (about $6-$7) will secure a table for a good 4 hour stretch. Booking of tables happens is done either in-shop or over discord server (as is the arranging of matches). Personally i think that's a great arrangement; lgs provides a nice, heated & lit space for you to occupy. (Lgs also provides the table itself, & the terrain.) Monetary compensation for that seems only fair (and also removes any potential "i've used their space for x amount of hours, perhaps i should make some kind of token purchase" awkwardness). And so it happens that these local lgs's are only too happy to have wargamers playing games in the shop, and also are not too fussed if they don't spend while they are playing. And yes, us "ccg'ers" to take over the shop(s) when certain events are on, but the wargamers have the run of the place more often than not. & to be fair, the ccg's do make the shop quite a bit of money.

I'm sorry, y'all. Until the hobby ease up on the insane requirements as a barrier of entry into plastic crack, I'm not getting into it. Period.

Late to the party. I’ve had FDM printers a few years. Just got a small resin printer which was to print ball jointed dolls for my wife. My daughter, a DM, asked for 3 dragon prints for her up coming D&D adventure. Now I’m printing the freebies from OPR. What have I done! Excellent channel btw. Subbed 🎉

I’ve come to the conclusion that tabletop hobbying is an umbrella term that can be branched out into a multiple of sub genres/hobbies in which people can deep dive into. Some people enjoy constructing/kitbashing models while others enjoy solely painting miniatures never playing the tabletop game they were intended for. Then there are the micro categories such as terrain building or 3d printing specifically for use in the tabletop hobby. In addition to these above we have people that enjoy creating game systems and those aspect of “the hobby”. There are so many facets that hold the potential to be complete hobbies into themselves.

I’m a fan of ‘blood and plunder’ so I’m looking forward to their ‘port royal’ skirmish game. My friend group also plays silver bayonet and Rogue warriors.

I am interested in the new Fallout skirmish game (Wasteland Warfare is unnecessarily complex, imo). Trench Crusade is going to inspire some great kitbashes and 3D prints!

I enjoy the assembly process, and the detail amount. I mean most of the time I leave some of the pieces on the sprue, but it's good to have the option.

I cannot WAIT for Trench Crusade to release.

Cyberpunk Red: Combat Zone is an incredible, smooth, and well thought-out skirmish game that has a fast and natural flow

I downloaded the playtest rules for Trench Crusade a couple of weeks ago, and I agree, it looks phenomenal. Both the art, and the ruleset

In Huntsville Alabama (and surrounding areas) there are a surprising number of gaming stores with tables for gaming, and sometimes single table rooms with a door. Apparently it's related to the high number of technical jobs because of the local military needs. But lots of war gaming as well as TCGs, RPGs, and board games. There's some turnover in stores, but I think some of that is debt shenanigans.

I was high on Trench Crusade's aesthetic and intriguing setting... until the group managing their discord decided to have a meltdown and the TC team backed them instead of getting them in line. Bad PR can ruin a game so early in the process.

Long Term GW fan here. I always supported their pricing. What kills it for me is the product availability and FOMO marketing. I’d be willing to pay even more if they’d keep everything on shelf, but the way it is now, I’m out. Recently bought a KoW starter.
