Channel 4 Aardman Idents - The Ident Review

This time on THE IDENT REVIEW, we're heading back to the year 1996, and just before Channel 4 was due for its first major rebrand, there was time for one last collaboration. They teamed up with Aardman, an award-winning animation studio who were responsible for such loved classics like the Wallace and Gromit series! They were tasked with creating numerous short sequences for Channel 4, so we're going to see exactly what they gave them!
Channel 4 was launched in late 1982 as the fourth main terrestrial channel in the UK. Dedicated to showcasing programmes that were an alternative, or different to the more conventional shows shown in the UK at the time. This also extended to their appearance and identity, with their iconic 4 logo standing the test of time, still being used in some form even today!

I have a theory that the 4 models were made out of wood and they had to make an individual model for one another which explains why they don't look Clayish and the technique reminds me a lot of George Pals puppetoons

I worked on these animations. I have one of the 4s in my living room right now and checked. It’s made of four layers of wood laminated together. The ones that distort were made of thinner wood.
