How Do You Know When Abdominal Pain Is Appendicitis?

  • -In November of 2023, "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert canceled his week of shows as he recovered from surgery due to a ruptured appendix. An appendix ruptures when appendicitis, or inflammation, goes untreated. It's easy to understand how this can happen when symptoms are similar to many other abdominal and gastrointestinal issues.
    We talked to Chief of General Surgery, Katherine Fischkoff, MD, about how to interpret belly pain and when to call your doctor.
    Key Info:
    -About 7% of Americans will get appendicitis in their lifetimes.
    -Laparoscopy is the surgical method of choice, which involves making small incisions in the abdomen to minimize scarring, pain, and improve recovery.
    -Appendicitis most commonly occurs in teens and young adults but can present at any age.

    I felt pain in the center of my stomach thrn it moved to my right side so after watching this video I decided to go in. Turns out I had appendicitis. The pain wasn’t even unbearable but I knew something was wrong. I had surgery the same day and now I am back home 36 hours later. Glad I got it checked out before it was too late!

    Just had my removed yesterday morning. Thought it was food poisoning at first. Waited til day 3 before I came to the hospital. Boy was I wrong. They did a CT scan and sure enough, inflamed appendix - appendicitis with localized peritonitis.
    Docs said parts of my appendix were already gangrenous. Who knows what might of happened if I decided to wait another day, thinking it was food poisoning…

Very similar symptoms though except for the red marks I got in my back 2 days ago.

      Turned out I had post covid shingles!! Must've been internal but eventually had 3 large spots on my back. They gave me meds, it went away. I covered with tea tree oil 2 to 3 x per day, which is an antiviral and anti bacterial. I didn't water it down. Killed all nerve pain too.

      You feel there's air in right abdomen, and it doesn't want to come out. It's a sharp pain.
      2 weeks ago I went to see the doctor. After CT scan, it was confirmed to be appendicitis. But in its early stage, which is sometimes difficult to see with the scan.
      But I was given antibiotics for a week. It's now OK. I feel no pains anymore and I can now eat and drink

    • @lazarsajcic9784
      @lazarsajcic9784 Před 2 dny

      How are you now?
      Similar story , they hospitalised me said is early stage did 5 days 12 doses antibiotics through IV. Now after one month start feeling again same place. I go same place they said don't need to worry is not appendicitis. But they just touch place they didn't CT like last time.
      Only symptom I have is like last time just pain in right lower abdomen. No fever, no vomiting , pain is not that sharp I can press that place and feel uncomfortable. Is like this 5 day's already

    • @willliamstenzy
      @willliamstenzy Před dnem +1

      @lazarsajcic9784
      I'm doing well.
      The doctor cautioned me that the antibiotics don't guarantee that the appendicitis is gone. He said it might come show up again. And the only guaranteed way is through surgery.
      I'd suggest you go for the CT scan again, to confirm it. Appendicitis is capable of coming back again even after taking antibiotic.
