The Susan Boyle ~ Les Misérables Story... where it all began

- Back on April 2009, Susan Boyle stepped out (broadcasted) on Britain's Got Talent stage for her first audition, and electrified the world with her stunning version of "I Dreamed a Dream" from the successful stage musical "Les Misérables".
This is a compilation of videos dating back to 2009-2012 where Les Misérables composer Claude-Michel Schonberg, lyricist Alain Boublil, and Producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh were moved and compelled to exalt Susan for embracing "I Dreamed a Dream" as a personal quest to tell her story of deep, emotional and painful memories.
This video also ties the stage musical about Susan's life which has the same song title (IDAD), and was written and produced in the UK. This was created with great love and respect for what Susan endured during her difficult birth, bullying in her formative years, and her personal relationships with her family and friends in the small village of Blackburn, West Lothian, Scotland. This musical has a good mix of period music through the years, adding in touching/tearful moments and laughter. Also, duly noted in the musical was the blatant and gross abuse by the media press towards Susan and how she coped in the end and survived...
During the Spring and Fall of 2012, this successful stage musical had garnered many 4-5 star ratings in the UK, and has bookings set for Australia next spring 2013.
Hopefully, one day the "I Dreamed a Dream" stage musical will showcase in New York, Los Angeles, London, San Francisco, etc. because her story has moved many people in the world through her voice, and empathized with her adverse and triumphant story. No one deserves as much success as someone who's humble, kind, generous and self-determined as Susan... and, in her own way, for someone who has survived years of emotional and psychological abuse.
It must also be noted ... many have made thousands/millions of $$... and, careers launched and made off the toil and tears... and, of course life-changing joy of a humble and shy, middle-aged lady from Blackburn, Scotland. Her presence was and will be felt wide and deep for many years to come.
I was oneof the lucky ppl to have seen Britain's got talent that night and like so many others my jaw dropped when she began to sing what will remain a mystery to me forever is that Britain didn't get it and voted her 2nd just unbelievable than God Simon Cowell knows talent when he hears it and didn't drop the ball. What would have happened if we had listened to the ppl who voted and not Simon? The world would've missed one of the great talents of our time so thank you again Simon Cowell!,,

On that day in January of 2009 an angel walked on to the BGT stage but neither the judges or audience knew it. Then she began to sing and her voice not only shocked everyone in the arena but would both bring joy and inspiration to the whole world and show anyone can be successful and never give up on their dreams.

I have heard a lot of singers sing I Dreamed a Dream. None can sing it like Susan. I saw her in concert when she came to Arizona. It was “ sold out” performance! She was and still is awesome! No one like Susan!

Wonderful, absolutely wonderful!! With the cast from Les Miserables singing and performing!, Then Susan Boyle coming out and singing “I Dreamed a Dream”!!!! Absolutely fabulous! I love the whole score and music from Les Miserables, and saw it performed up in Anchorage, Alaska, so many years ago!!! Yes, who would’ve thought there would’ve been somebody come out on the scene, so many years later, even with Les Miserables still running, to sing this wonderful song!! Kudos to the composer, I forgotten his name, of all these songs!! And anyone else who was involved with the production initially or later on of this musical! And having read, A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens, years ago when I was a teenager!!!! It makes you appreciate it all the more! Thank you to Charles Dickens and to Susan Boyle!!! And the cast of Les Miserables!!! Kudos to all of you!!!

Caruso dealt with the same prejudice on his looks & background....and Michael Crawford did ad well, to a point. Yes, he was already famous, but he was taking singing lessons in his 40's. And he was 45 when he became the Phantom.....folks were rather perturbed....then he sang & won several Tonys.....and became a household name & a sex symbol! 🥰
I prefer her first performance. Some voices just don't require or need the interference of professional training. Susan's is perfect in it's natural state.

Her voice is obviously more technically correct in this video, but I find that somehow the original audition version is just more powerful and moving. I could listen to it over and over.

At the time I rewrote the above, I was not aware that 4 hours ago news broke that Susan was open and relieved to reveal that she was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome a year ago. Prior to that, she was unfairly labeled as “brained damaged” and other dumb labels to put her down. Now, come 52 yrs later, Susan has found the truth to her struggles in life, and now with evidence of her above average intelligence, she hopes others will get beyond judging her unfairly and embracing what she does have to offer…

Throughout her life, Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle has carried the label "brain damaged". Now, in an exclusive interview with the Observer, the 52-year-old has revealed that she was misdiagnosed after complications at birth and has actually had Asperger's, a high-functioning form of autism.
"It was the wrong diagnosis when I was a kid," she says. "I was told I had brain damage. I always knew it was an unfair label. Now I have a clearer understanding of what's wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself."
Asperger's affects social interaction and communication skills, and sometimes hinders the ability to form relationships and gauge appropriate behaviour in different social contexts. Boyle, who was called "Susie Simple" while growing up in her home town of Blackburn, West Lothian, was bullied as a child because she was "different" from her classmates. Now she can give that difference a name.
"I went to seek a diagnosis from a Scottish specialist," she says. "Nobody told me to. I thought I had a more serious illness and couldn't function properly." Asperger's often creates anxiety in sufferers because of their inability to deal with situations which others take in their stride, and Boyle admits to being nervous about the consultation. But she coped well with a series of simple tests that showed her intelligence levels were not connected to her condition:"I was told my IQ was above average."
The singer has also suffered from depression and mood swings and acknowledges her own vulnerability and need for support. "I am not strong on my own," she admits. "When I have the support of people around me I am fine. I have a great team."
Boyle says that her struggles growing up made her more determined to succeed but also left their mark on her. "You don't fight without some resentment."
She insists the new Asperger's diagnosis neither defines nor confines her. "It will not make any difference to my life. It's just a condition that I have to live with and work through." She hopes, though, that it will lead to people showing greater empathy and understanding towards her and her condition.
"I think people will treat me better because they will have a much greater understanding of who I am and why I do the things I do."
