Too many comments to read them all and check if anyone pointed this out. "The advent calendar was launched in honour of the 100th anniversary of the brand's iconic Chanel No. 5 fragrance. Packaged in the shape of the perfume bottle, the box also begins with day 5 and ends with day 31 to commemorate the occasion." Yes this is the worst advent calendar by far just because they charged so much for the tat inside it.

Not that Alexandria should have actally done this review differently at all, and I liked her comment that even as a collector's item this is a scam, but I really needed to say that viewing something from a different perspective isn't being fake and it's really wrong to say that it is. Being able to view things from different perspectives is valuable and important, and an intrinsic part of kindness, empathy and fairmindedness. It is not being fake.

If I was to rate a well-made steak as how good a steak it is, I might be very impressed and give it 10/10. If I was to rate it as a vegetarian meal I'd give it negative points and be horrified. That's the closest I can conceive of a "steak collector". So to try and see it from a collector's perspective when you don't really know what that'd look like, it might come off as fake. Does that make sense at all? It's kinda hard to aptly describe.
I bought each of my daughters a $15 Gudetama sock advent calendar with twelve days. Each day has an entire pair of socks. I feel like they could teach Chanel something.

“We are aware of the comments that are currently visible under our publications and are sorry that this calendar may have disappointed some people.
Directly inspired by the mythical silhouette of the No.5 bottle, this calendar, only available for a short period, has a unique design and an original content, which makes it a true collector’s item whose value cannot be summed up by the products it contains alone,” Chanel said.
Pavlovsky said a special effort had been made to use more sustainable materials. “I think it is one of the most beautiful ever made, both in terms of design and the materials used,” he said of the calendar, which even Harmon praised for its sophisticated packaging.
"Certainly, next time, we will think of another way to do this type of thing. I think that certain categories of products may be more suitable, in particular beauty - that could be a great idea. In any case, the objective is to promote our products and not to trigger any controversy, and even less to create frustrations or to send the wrong signals,” he said."
I don't think they actually get what the problem is.
I don't know much about French high fashion brands, but this statement fit perfectly with my perception of them. They probably think the stickers are worth $70 a piece just because they have a Chanel logo on them.

This advent calendar is the physical representation of when you tell your aunt or grandma that you like frogs, like, just in passing, and not really all that much, and then receive frog-themed presents EVERY YEAR after that.

I do really want to know how many people used the wax seal to write a strongly worded letter to Chanel. They should issue a formal apology.
The way they lazily stacked the boxes on top of each other knowing it would all fall out. So many companies don't give a fuck anymore about customers and they are going to feel it soon. Make-up and care were amazing for a couple of years. Like between 2007 and 2018, make-up was amazing. But it's getting really boring now with all their weird products and ripoffs, smelly shit and weird colors. I can't even find a regular pink lipstick anymore. The cosmetics sector is probably shrinking. The only reason why the big brands like Dior and Estee Lauder have still increasing market value is because they buy all the other brands.
Instead they ran and hide and deleted their Instagram xD
They have it back up now but there is nothing about the advent calendar on it.
I would write a letter to them and then use real sealing wax and a seal stamp thing on the letter. Just to show them how its done.

I assume the creative geniuses at Chanel were going for "our brand is so prestige, we'll make some unique items that only come in this calendar and it'll be so collectible and cool", and instead ended up creating an elaborate middle finger to their actual clientele. Let's say you spent $10,000 on a Chanel purse. You know those have been arbitrarily going up in price every year way beyond inflation, thereby fuelling the "this bag is an investment" mentality. Now you see they have no problem telling you that a bunch of low quality junk and product minis are worth $800. This is just the magnum opus of "we're charging this much because we can, you stupid customer"

I had heard this was was bad, but I was not prepared at all! They could have put half those items behind one door, and it still would have been a disappointment. It was strange that Chanel wants to be associated with something so cheap. Usually the "you're paying for the name" quip is a tad tongue in cheek. Like, luxury brands do charge a premium just for that label, but the label is supposed to have an association with quality. Putting the name on cheap nonsense doesn't elevate the nonsense, it just cheapens the name

I CAME BACK TO THIS VIDEO!! JUST to say that I LITERALLY YESTERDAY got the exact 1.5 ml bottle you got in that calendar as a FREE GIFT (you get around 2 free samples) with my tonique (it is the only one that doesn’t cause me to go flakey).
I've said it before about this calendar, and I'll say it again. This is a physical representation of the dystopia we now live in, where people work hard and spend a stupid amount of money expecting just a tiny bit of something nice.... and our corporate overlords laugh in our face, then lick their thumbs and go back to counting their billions of dollars.
Exactly!!! This calendar is not meant for their typical buyer-it’s for the middle class and lower who think they’re paying for something nice. But it’s just a slap in the face. We the majority need to stop giving these companies our money and invest in quality companies and merchandise.

@@TheMelncholyglamour I'm not sure I can agree. I would never spend my money on something like this or an advent calendar in general, because it is a cat in a bag - I don't know what I am getting. When I do spend my money for the "luxury" brand items, it is for a perfume because I have found them to be worth the price unlike literally anything else (bags, clothes, shoes etc.). Maybe I am really set in my ways, but I find it hard to believe someone would spend money on these advent calendars for the items (not for CZcams videos and so on, but actually because they wanted the calendar).

It’s worth it for her- (1) It’s a business expense in terms of taxes and (2) She makes up the money with the views it brings in. Not at all judging her- I LOVE this channel, just explaining why it makes sense for her.

A lot of the products remind of the junk that companies put on tables at like, advertising conventions. Like pens and coasters and stickers with their logo on it for people to pick up as they walk past. Some of these things seem like the Chanel version of that.

If the calender had been less money - around the retail value of the actual beauty items inside - and all the other shit was just 'filler', it would be 'meh', but we're talking what, $300 at best? If they'd charged 300 for that calender it would be a whole order of magnitude less offensive. And to really make matters worse, they're doubling down and basically blocking or ignoring anyone who criticises the thing. I mean the level of entitlement here is astonishing! If someone isn't fired for this fiasco I'll be surprised.

So reading some blogs on the subject, Chanel claims they fully disclosed the type of products within this calender. Also claiming they did a "blind test" and recieved postive feedback on some of the items so they stuck with similar ones throughout the calender..... I'm in awe of the lack of self awareness from chanel's HR.
They did list what was in it on the website.
Bet they only blind tested the nail varnish, hand cream, mini perfume and lipstick! The rest is just shabby
The item descriptions were listed on back of box ie "The Pouch" (yup, that's it, just a pouch, perhaps to protect those "luxury" bracelets), and the chalky bottle is a "perfumable ceramic". I guess you can soak up the perfume in those Barbie-sized bottles with it. Give me a Hickory Farms gift box instead, please! It was bad enough for $800, I hope you get a good tax write off.
