I am a Sociology lecturer and this lesson is very, very helpful indeed....almost mirrors what we teach in year 2 A level but in much more detail and depth....only ...with the Islamic perspective. Alhamdolila very insightful jzk brother
Some of my fav arguments made by Br Hijab in this video:
1. Secularism, definitionally, is contingent upon that which it rejects i.e. religion. Therefore, it becomes ever more important to define in a robust manner what religion is and therein lies the problem. Though dictionary definitions may espouse the idea that a presence of central deity or lesser gods are necessary for religious doctrine, brother Hijab quotes sociologists who argue that any TRANSCENDENTAL idea is sufficient. This is certainly the case for godless creeds like Buddhism (and perhaps why we see a western leaning towards it). By this measure classical / philosophical liberalism are all religions. This means secularism is by definition self defeating because religion (if we are to define it according to presence of transcendental ideas) is inescapable. All systems have transcendental ideas and metaphysical assumptions e.g. even a nation with its border, constitution, values of freedom of speech are all transcendental ideas.
2. There is an inherent contradiction between secularism and democracy. Many of the most pressing societal / political discourse are coloured by religious leanings. Take for example the pro life vs pro choice debate in the US. If a democratic society votes to institute religious laws like banning abortion or the cutting for theft, there becomes a conflict. Either secularism is undermined as religious laws are incompatible with a secular state or you override the democratic mandate of the people which amounts to dictatorship

The benefits we're receiving from Mohammed Hijab getting sick, and then formally beginning lessons on Londoniyyah and other ideologies is immense. Alhamdulillah. Allah sometimes inflicts people with hardships and illness and then benefits himself and other people with it. Allahu Akbar. I can definitely see and feel the results. I mean, you can't argue with the results, can you? This is indeed pure gold.
There are also an amazing couple of videos about this topic in the "blogging theology" channel with Imam Tom. They discussed Talal Asad's book about secularism. I recommend everyone watch them.

There is also another saying about the well know expression '' Give to Cesar... etc. '', most people also forget that : Cesar belongs to God... So when you say ''render to God what belongs to him'' you will also render to him Cesar himself, and every thing Cesar got... Lol.

The state can delimit, limit, exclude or curtail any religious practice, and thus has the power to determine the quality and quantity of the religious sphere as it sees fit. “
it’s either/or. Either the aesthetic life, the life of pleasure, the view of all naive sentimentalist egoistic worship of one’s own desires take. If you take this view, you presuppose the very thing you trying to prove, because your orientation is built into your justification or legitimation of that choice.
Secularism is oppressive and no one knows this. Only some Muslims are aware of this, almost all other faiths are co-opted by secularism. Secularism sees itself as the only true consciousness for the individual, and all other faiths as the musk of false consciousness the individual puts on.

Sometimes we just need to remember that the ones attacking Islam are hypocrites many of them.
Often the way to dismantle their arguments is to look back at their own beliefs & systems to reveal the flaws & chaos.
Secularism can exist fine without 1 dominant religion and works well in states that have Christians (protestants and catholics), Atheists, Jews, Hindus and Muslims. It gives all citizens equal rights to vote irrespective of religion. A peaceful coexistence model.
But the secular regime is the dominant "religion."

Since there are no longer "islamic empire governments", can secularism benefit a muslim majority country or not? (Separation of church & state)
No the reality is that that's the state of most muslim countries. No Islamic country is run by Islamic government system.

Secularism grew from the conflicts between competing religions, So it is erroneous to suggest it needs 1 religion. Secularism acknpwledges that no religion is undivided and that most conflicts are between religions who seek to promote their own interests in the laws.
Sekularism allows all citizens equality. If a ing should switch from protestaant to catholic it should not make difference for the citizens.

I love it brother Secular studies… it’s time to shine the light on them… we are fed the secular narrative from pre-k onward, unaware of the underlying usool or foundational principles that are being ingrained in us… this secular belief system undergirds every aspect western society, education, entertainment, science etc… it’s entire objective is to remove faith as the foundational principle of human experience and endeavor… for example in your last video, you spoke about Europeans dominating less technologically advanced peoples because the development of ballistic weapons etc… this is exactly the understanding that validates their amazing fact of evolution, which is the backbone of secularism, White European Ape men adapted far superior brain activity which allowed them to adopt scientific reasoning, resulting in social and technological domination of inferior peoples… when in fact Allah tells the Prophet peace be upon him in Surah 9:25 I’m paraphrasing, Allah is the one who gave you victory not your great numbers or technology… do you see the subtle but blatant attack on faith… if they can separate Allah as the cause for reason they can put doubt upon the believers by appealing to the ego of men… be aware my brothers it’s necessary to deprogram from this 20 to 30 years of conditioning before we can clearly see the truth.
The idea of secularism is that the state should not be religious. It isn't "to remove faith as the foundational principle of human experience and endeavor" as you wrote. Every citizen is free to worship and to allow religion to be the foundation of his/her life.

Liberalism does not undermine secularism. Secularism just means you do not let clerical authority dictate laws.
The reason for separating religion from state is that no religion is united, so there are always rivalling and warring factions. As there are in Islam.
No secular state is united. We see the growing tensions between republicans and democracts

@@safiyayuichi6553 Not that long ago the USA abandoned segregation of whites vs non-whites. Something with which Islam agrees. But the logical conclusion that Jews, Christians, disbelievers who are not of the book, women etc. should all also have legal equality is not shared by Islam. That is a weakness of Islam. Why should women legally be made to sit separately?
Of course, in practice many women may choose to congregate together, but that should not be legally mandatory.

secularism is not about being anti religion or atheist. (although i'm agnostic &secular) it is about believing in own religion and respecting others. the state(country) shall not have any religion, otherwise it will do discrimination with other faiths.

Right I can’t watch anymore. You can’t just say things like if we call liberalism is a religion and therefore it means secularism is undermined. You have to understand the defined terms you are using and not miss lead people. It is based on countless evidence that secular societies thrive the best on the planet. Imagine being Muslim and you’re government was Jewish and they tried to enforce Jewish views as laws you as a Muslim would not allow that. The idea of government being secular means keeping religion out of policies and laws to keep everybody happy whilst at the same time trying to improve everyone’s way of life. Why this is even a topic for discussion is ridiculous. Any Muslim run states are awful to people of different faiths, sexual orientation even women’s rights in those countries. I’m not hating on Muslims as I know it’s not the individual but religion absolutely needs to be kept out of government and schools and other state operated things. Again imagine going to a hospital in a Jewish state run country you would not be allowed blood transfusions that saves countless lives every day

If anything, secularism causes more violence and division in society. The moment you take out religion from policy making, all you're left with is the usage of science and reason on how to deal with societal issues. And all the chaos and destruction that you see in the modern Era, starting from the 1700s, is quite evident of that. Secularism leads to the radical intellectualization of societal issues by use of science and reason and as a result, paves the path for systems that are more anthropocentric like nationalism & capitalism, the two most destructive ideals that have ruined and corroded our social fabric in modern times.
@@mrjoe9545 the freedoms created by secular societies give their citizens a better life. Why do you think people flee their 3rd world religious countries to move to countries like the US or UK or Canada or France. You don’t see people moving to Iran or places like that for a better life do you.
In societies where religion reigns you have higher teenage pregnancies higher cases of child abuse higher cases of rape higher cases of child molestation.
I’m not saying capitalism etc doesn’t have its flaws because it does and has a division between the classes of wealth but you should look into the facts before you suggest differently. Secular societies are inclusive to everyone all it means is laws and state involvement are not governed by religion
@@ashleyoneill304 it is shocking to see how easily you dismiss the very life endangering effects of secularism. The freedoms created by secular societies are almost always exclusive to a group of people and not everyone. If I live in secular Malaysia and am of a different nationality, I'm automatically excluded from having access to so many facilities including healthcare to a certain degree. Or if I'm living in secular saudi, the laws are even harsher simply because I come from a different nationality. If you think all these hyper-nationalistic muslim countries are Islamic, that is sufficient grounds to instantly disqualify you from even talking about wider societal issues.
Also, third world countries are by no means religious. The governments of such so called "religious countries" are highly hedonistic and kleptocratic, which is another byproduct of secularism. Not to say western governments aren't. Homelessness is rising in America, people are losing jobs, quality of life is drastically deteriorating in places like France and Germany, governments are becoming more hedonistic, corporations are taking over, nuclear families are breaking apart due to the capitalistic drive to chase after that high life. How can you be so oblivious to this dark secular reality? Pisses me off tbh. Because I, along with millions of other people around the world, am a victim of this global secular oppression. And when you say such things, I can't help but think that you actually are the enemy of the people.

Even if it's a Muslim populated state with a predominant Islamic culture, it doesn't have any affect on policy making or the system of governance. And saudis domestic and foreign policies for the last seven decades is enough evidence to suggest that it isn't really Islamic.
Heck its very existence reeks of irreligiosity & secularism. Building a nation state based off materialistic premises like oil, wealth and arabism is contrary to Islam. It's even more secular when you center all your policies around preserving them.
Not to mention, it's very disingenuous of you to make religious societies look restrictive and homogenous. This process of homogenization is only unique to modern secularism and to some extent Christianity. If I was living in pre modern times in a religious hindu society in India, my beliefs, culture and traditions may have been preserved, not corroded by hindu ideals. Same applies to Muslim run societies. Look into the state of jews under Muslim rule.
None of us have ever lived in a premodern religious state. We grew up in secular societies where everyone is forced to be homogenized into a single way of life, which is the secular way of life, to the extent that societies have been coerced, divided and restricted by secular powers to fulfill this agenda.
To take that and to project it onto one of your imaginary religious societies is just nonsense.
Brother Mohammed Hijab, I respect you and listen to you all the time, but when you insulted Rushi Sunakh for being short, I was perplexed. Why do you insult a man for his physical stature, something he has no say in and cannot improve? It is like insulting the blind and the deaf for being blind and deaf, and is clearly something that goes against the teachings of our religion. May Allah guide all of us.
