As a Muslim Arab woman, what brother Hijab said at the end is very important. A lot of us were force-fed feminism and other liberal Western values. So now, some of us, when we hear Allah's laws, we get a bad feeling in our hearts. The hearts got sick, brother Hijab. We need to heal. I do not need to fit the Western narrative. If these Westerners want to perceive me as oppressed and in need of their saving (the god complex of the (non-Muslim) Westerner back at it again), fine let them live in their illusion. I am unbothered. It is time we heal from the colonial damage and learn to be ourselves unapologetically. Embrace Islam, submit to Allah swt and have sincere intentions. You do not need to be recognized or approved by the (non-Muslim) White person. That person does not need to give you a green light. You are putting that power in the hands of the (non-Muslim, or let me say this time, Kafir) White person. You are the problem. Destroy the slave mentality. You belong to a nation of two billion people, multiracial, multicultural, extremely rich history and glorious civilization. Therefore, wake up and start healing.

I’m an Arab woman too, all I can say my dear sister nothing heals like getting close to Allah, learning more about Allah, Quran and Sunna helps a LOT to be aware of Allahs rules, punishment , hope and love , and when our hearts are filled with those I mentioned then nothing can make our hearts sick, because Allah promised to protect us when we rely on Him and follow His commandments.
Look at most of the feminist all they know are only those few verses talks good about women and only few hadiths that are good about women, and they always mention mother Khadijah , but they don’t mention how she was serving the prophet SalaAllaho Alyhi Wasam nor how she took care of her home, all they mention is that she was business woman, and they always mention the beloved prophet SalaAllaho Alyhi wasalam helping house work, only these details are most famous to them, they pick and choose. but was the beloved prophet SalaAllaho Alyhi wasalam always cleaning? Or did he made a contract with his wives that they will have a timetable one day he will clean and the other day his wife clean? , did mother Khadijah left the beloved prophet SalaAllaho Alyhi wasalam cooking and she goes for her business? …
Just few yrs ago there was no question asked when people get married (in non western countries), the man knew his responsibility and the woman knew her responsibility… it was just automatically each partner knows their responsibility, they lived happy, and this was and still is in some families even non Muslims , so where did our Muslim sisters got this feminism idea? , they got it because of staying away from the Quran and Sunnah, when the western ideology of feminism started spreading to Muslims the women who are holding to Quran and sunnah were not affected, I don’t mean to say the feminist Muslims are not educated, they are some who are islamically educated but education without practice doesn’t benefit anyone , especially Islamic knowledge , you leave it it leaves you.
May Allah protect and guid us

I’m a belgian student studying in this very university (and no one gave me the memo haha !). People may not know but the dawah is growing in our country as well as the liberal views among young people. This results in an expanding segregation between two opposite camps in the youth: those that wish to remain traditional (wether muslims or not) and those that don’t. The problem is that many brothers ( and mainly sisters) have been taken in cross fires and are mixing the two resulting in a “westernised ” discourse about islam. Dawah is important and it must include thoughts on modern ideologies. Barak Allah fikum !

One thing which you've probably heard before so just by way of continuous improvement and constructive critique - sometimes the approach can be a bit too direct for some who may not be at the level of emaan and knowledge where they can digest the information in the way you say it. Gentleness in delivery can help significantly, although I appreciate when people are infected with insidious liberalist propaganda which manifest in shouting across the room, it can raise the temperature - the key is cooling down and fighting fire with water, as it were.

I watched this with an open mind and saw the positive comments stating how good a talk it was. Unfortunately I wasnt blown away by his lecture. Hijab failed to explain how feminism has made women suffer. Perhaps I’m not understanding since I’m a practicing Muslim woman that I’m failing to see the failure. I’m assuming that bc I’m not a single mother who has no additional support to raise children, perhaps that is what he is referring to.
But he didn’t explain what the failure is, yet he talked a lot abt women being mothers and staying at home and not working. Alhamdulillah, my father raised 3 daughters, all 3 of whom are strong, practicing, educated Muslim women. May Allah give my dad jannah, ameen.
All 3 of us hold degrees in higher education and have careers. We wear hijab, we fulfill our 5 pillars of Islam, and we are strong and firm in our faith Alhamdulillah.
Alhamdulillah Allah blessed me with children. I work, I raise my children close to the deen and I respect my husband and he respects and cares for me. It is mutual. I am happy to have a career. It is my domain. As my parents have taught me, I am raising my children to be educated while having family values so that iA they too can one day have their own families and raise the next generation, while contributing to society thru their professional jobs while affording the leisure time to personally contribute to their communities. Being a mother doesnt mean that you can’t have hobbies, a job and personal aspirations. I think children that are born to mothers that lack emotional maturity and strong educational foundation are in a difficult position. May Allah help our ummah to prepare women to be strong minded and educated to become good mothers, ameen.
I don’t want to quit my job. I enjoy being able to be useful in other ways and having a part of my life that is my own. It allows me to be a better mother and be an example for my children and to not place so much burden on my husband as well. I need my husband for many things, but I can also stand on my own 2 feet Alhamdulillah.
One thing that I am immensely grateful for is the extended support Allah granted me in helping my husband and I raise our children. Our parents, in laws, aunts, uncles, cousin, friends-it takes a village to raise a child and all of the responsibility can’t fall on a mother or father. They are at the helm, but there is a team as well that provides so much support. Without that team, I wouldn’t have been able to juggle my career. Alhamdulillah x1000, even more for that barakah.
So Hijab failed to explain how modern feminism has ruined women when I’m not an anomaly. I know other strong Muslim women who went to school and are experts in their field of study while raising families. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume we’re not what he is talking abt.
He needs to explain better bc he lost me entirely.

The thing is you're looking at it from your own anecdotal perspective and hijab is actually stating statistics and facts. For example the women's happiness study which stated that their happiness levels have gone down. Another thing is that most women can't or are not able to juggle both work and house work, they fail in that department so it ends up burdening them even more due to which some problems arise, be it anger, bitterness, or tiredness etc. The shariah also states that a woman is allowed to work as long as she is fulfilling the her duties at the house or she is not ignoring her house duties. A vast majority of women aren't able to juggle both work and house work. Some women can so good for them, as shariah also supports them if they are able to work and do the house work also.

I think it goes to say that the feminist movement benefited Muslim women the most bc it encouraged women to go to school and attain higher education and find careers. At the same time our culturally Islamic family values do not place a focus on nuclear family only. We do not “leave and cleave”. Extended families share and provide support to each other. The western idea of the nuclear family places too much burden on the husband and wife, and mostly on the woman. I agree, having to single-handedly raise children and work to contribute to the household is too much on women in society, especially with the disintegration of the family. The burden is further placed on women even more.
Like I said, I assumed that Hijab was not talking abt women like me and was talking abt feminism from specifically a non-Muslim sense, one that is solely based in the post sexual revolution era and the decline of marriage and 2 parent family households. And this is where I feel his talk missed the mark, bc it’s worth mentioning how the Muslim community has created a model example out of the movement.

Any moves to reduce men's responsibility for children and women constitutes a serious attack on the essential ingredient of self-sacrifice which goes into making up a viable community and thus women are the foundation because the woman who submits to marriage (and fulfils her motherhood and wifehood to the fullest potential) is the one whose sacrifice unleashes the latent altruism in men and integrates the community. Basically, as women gravitate more towards the independent end of the spectrum, it usurps the men's divine responsibility to provide and protect for women; and men and women, as generations pass, find it increasingly difficult to rationalize to be interdependent on each other as there are less and less reasons for women to be with a man. Basically, marriage is reduced to mere procreation, which is the most fundamental aspect but should not be the only aspect.

Men who are abusive, mentally, spiritually, financially, sexually, emotionally and physically. This causes a lot of harm to the children and mother. These are topics that are very important. If a woman is not being taken care of, how can she raise the children? Very important!

She has a career, will get her Ph.D. next year, and already have 3 kids. Women don't have to choose between education/career and family. It's just that they have to do family/kids first and at a young age because of biological facts.

Yes, but the point is, what is that education even getting them? If they want to get educated for an end they want to achieve, by all means, but usually people just want to achieve higher education, or have a job because of the feminist prescription.
I myself have the opportunity to complete my higher studies, but I wouldn't, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone (unless they want to be academics).
That is not to say that one should not acquire knowledge, because the Prophet PBUH state:
“Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.”

I would say that the recommendations of scholars is that a man should only take one wife. Having 4 wives is not får the odinary man. It was more suitable for a different age where the man was away to other countries, or if the women where far more in population than men. So the recommendation today for any man (if he's not living a extraordinary life) and are able to give the same amount of time, love, wealth to his wives then it would not be permissible.
