Did anyone notice the Nissan Frontier offset was good but the rear seat passenger head smacked the back window what gives there IIHS ????
i noticed that as well, don’t get it….
That’s not a common cause of significant head injury. Not to mention highly variable. That specific occurrence isn’t a high mark parameter.
It was “acceptable”, not “good”.
Also, no headrest was in place
Pretty sure it's head went past the headrest on the way to the window while it's neck wrenched around it..
I agree, how can you give an acceptable rating when the rear passenger’s head hits the back glass and the shoulder belt cuts into the neck. Did you get a bribe to come up with that result? Also, the Tundra got a better rating than the Fords or Chevy even though the shoulder belt cut into the neck as well. It seems as though your ratings are biased to favor the foreign automakers. I expected better from a government agency but these ratings are total bs, imo!
Sometimes I question who rates these. A jeep that contained less damage in cab was poor but hitting your head on the back window is acceptable….
They rate buy who pays them the most
Side airbag never deployed in that test. It also rolled in the small overlap test.
You're talking about the Frontier and yes I did notice that as well.
The criteria is documented clearly and available on line. There’s very little subjectivity in the rating. There are payoffs for best car awards, not for this.
That’s not a common cause of significant head injury. Not to mention highly variable. That specific occurrence isn’t a high mark parameter.

The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is super safe. Since it's always, ALWAYS in the shop due to 'electrical issues' you don't ever crash... Assuming you don't crash why the electrical issues are happening at 75 MPH. DO NOT but a GM vehicle they absolutely do not care if you're vehicle has spent more time in the shop than being driven... They will fight you tooth and nail rather than taking even the least amount of actions to make the issues right.
Working as designed
Our last 3 GM products were lemons. GM treated us like crap. Our Buick 3.1 v6 started knocking at 25,000 km. GM said it’s not an issue and talked to us like we were dirt. That engine blew at 96,000km! Last straw! There will never be another GM in our yard.
Like any other new vehicles are better. The most recalled being ford… brand new ecoboosts with valve train failure… and don’t even get me started with Chrysler…
My neighbor can attest to this as well.
It's a wonder the Ford F150 even makes it off the lot.
I find these videos fascinating. I only wish they were accompanied by some explanation concerning the topics being evaluated and thus earning the awarded scores.
Jeep gladiator poor Chevrolet Silverado marginal only know these vehicles
They started testing both sides off set when they discovered auto makers were gaming the test by beefing up driver side structures and leaving the passenger side light on structure.
Studies show that 99.9% of crashes involve a driver in each vehicle involved. Seems like a logical way to “game” the system.
Considering we drive on the right side of the road in America, you are more likely to crash driver to driver than passenger to passenger
For those that are confused about the Rivian test: It is not the damage to the outside of the vehicle that determines the rating, but rather the damage to the inside of the can and the passengers. In fact, unusually a more damaged the outside is better. Vehicles are made with “crumple zones” on the outside. These zones are specifically made to be crushed during an impact. When the vehicle impacts a surface, it undergoes a collision and a transfer of momentum. As seen in the Impulse Momentum Therom (Ft=mv), a collision that takes place over a longer period of time will result in less force being applied to the object in the collision. In context, a vehicle that crumples more and for longer on the outside will reduce the force applied to the cab and the passengers in the cab. The goal of auto manufacturers is to reduce the amount of force delivered to the passengers on the INSIDE. They don’t care about the outside of the vehicle. Force inside the cab is what splits your skull open. Hope this makes some sense, i’m not exactly a physics teacher. 😁
The one where the dudes head smacked the window was definitely not safe though lol.
The danger is in the back seats for most of them.
Always the way...
Why not show the same test for every truck? Seems the Rivian had a cherry picked test here with no rear passenger while the others did.
If you are going to do a comparison like this,, show the SAME tests for ALL the trucks in the lineup.
Also, why are these tests showing different ratings than the same ones from just a couple years ago? Example, the Ram 1500 didn't change, but now it has a poor rating on the overlap?
The standards are now higher.
they are testing the rear seat passenger protection
.....the ensuing thermal runaway fire in the Rivian will get you.
That’s very true, it’s a very scary possibility that is not being talked about. However, gasoline is equally as scary if the tank gets ruptured.
Vehicle fires are not as common as CZcams makes them out to be.
Ok back in 2019 IHS did the same test on 1/2 trucks. My Ram had an overall rating of good, now for the 2023 ram model are rated poor. The 5th generation hasn't changed, so why a poor rating this year ???
They’re trying to phase out gas vehicles, so anything to help that is in their best interest. These scores are total crap.
That crossed my mind too. If one of these trucks hits another vehicle it could be bad for the occupants due to extra weight from the batteries.
@freedompanda9438 how would IIHS benefit from getting rid of gasoline vehicles??
Same thing with the new tundra last year was one of the best overall tested and scores. 🤷🏻♂️ now bately pass...
The rivian 2 test seemed awfull against cabin structur and scored good.... 😅
Maybe they crash test are more demanding anda they scores increased
I slammed my 07 Duramax crew into the rear axles of a semi tractor trailer that crossed in front of me, both of us traveling at higher speeds than these test videos. My work truck cab was full of tools, parts and inventory, but I only shattered my right leg/ ankle/ foot and broke my wrists ( don’t try to keep holding the steering wheel ). It was hard on internal organs as well, but I still look the same as before the crash, not too ravishing. At least the dash cam was working, but replaying that is horrifying and not the best therapy.
What these tests don’t indicate is the PTSD that comes from being crushed inside for 2 1/5 hours or so while they saw, pry, and pull your truck apart with log chains. After a few years, I still can’t climb radio towers, I hate the tiny man lifts in grain elevators, and I have to sleep with a small light on like some little kid. Pathetic.
Drive safe, don’t try to work 20 or 40 hours straight, and let the crash dummies take all the damage.
P.S.: When you vacate your life for a second (seems much longer), not all of you may return, and bad things can hitch a rough ride back with you. Non of the surgeries or meds will fix that, since I don’t belong here anymore. Maybe I never did.
I don’t accept your last statement.
You have been through a lot, but you survived. Because every slight improvement in everything we do to improve as a a species gave you a more favorable outcome.
The mind remembers to gain knowledge and learn for the future.
All the best to you.
PICK WHAT EVER TRUCK YOU LIKE. THEY ARE ALL 20X SAFER THEN ANY TRUCK IN THE 90/00. YOU WILL BE FINE
Exactly.
Very good to know all this.
I got into an accident with my 2022 Chevy ZR2 Colorado and it folded like a tin can. It was completely totalled and the kicker... the airbags never went off. I have since switched to Ram
Everything must have worked, you walked away.
I really wonder how they rate vehicles on this tests. There are way to much inconsistencies in here like the Gladiator (yeah, we all know It lacks on the air bags, but it performed amazingly) and the rivian for example which took damage almost into the cab in the front crash and still gor a good rating while the other trucks managed to stop the damage much earlier (causing less risk into the cabin) and got Acceptable at most. This sounds like government driven tests to promote electic vehicles over fuel operated ones.
Sounded good until the conspiracy theory
Considering the overall performance for rear passengers is poor, why not fit a B-Post airbag that can deploy to cushion rear passengers for upper body impact protection in forward movement? Ive been involved in the automotive industry for 30 years, and this would not be a hard technology, or expensive to implement!
EV's are good until the batteries ignite.
There's nothing good about EV's.
Which almost never happens and is far less likely than any vehicle with an internal combustion engine.
@@BrickMudge Absolutely. Unless you consider torque, cost of ownership, reliability, pollution, and as this video just showed - safety.
@@1964mcqueen Please keep your fake news/science to yourself. I'm not interested. If I were interested in learning just how "environmentally friendly" EV's are, I'd just turn on the tell-lie-vision, where seemingly everyone agrees with.... you.
@@1964mcqueen I smell bullshit.
With the rivian I expected the headlights to display smiley face emojis, then just before impact....squinty eyed emojis, then after impact....an x eyed or a frowny faced emoji in the remaining headlight.
I was expecting a thermal meltdown!
Good stuff😂
The Rivian is a superb first attempt from a new manufacturer.

Cool
They are excellent tests for clients. What a shame that those trucks are damaged only by those tests. I would like one of those and I can't. 😞😞
Happily surprised that the Ford Maverick did so well !! Since I own one that’s good to know !
Looks like crash tests with Lego cars. All I see is exploding plastic...
Should have bookmarked the tests and then had a summary table at the conclusion.
There was no rear-seat dummy in the Rivuan's head-on test. Give me a reason.
They paid them off
because that was the "original moderate overlap" test, not the updated one. All original ones didn't have a rear dummy, because they weren't testing for rear passengers, the updated one tests for rear passengers.
Was a Monday morning so needed a day off 😂
The Frontier is acceptable after the rear passenger slams its head into the rear window, LOL.
I'm starting to believe that the real tests are all about how much money testers received from each different company. 😂😂😂
Don’t believe it.
If that was true, nothing else they reported on would be credible.
Was hoping they would surprise us with a Cyber truck at the end.
Def not safe
There is a video recent post on how "UNSAFE", it is!!
According to Elon it is good. Suppose we will have to wait for some independent testing
@@Quinton0520it’s crumple zone does not seem to be that different from, other trcks
Ram got a poor
rating. Didn't see any debris flying around in the cab.
The chevy didnt even pop a l.f tire and the side impact didnt shatter the windows !so whats next ? 4 point safety harnesses for rear passengers ?
Seems like that's were the problem is. Some of those Mercedes seatbelt pretentioners would go along way!
ANYONE know why the wipers come on? Is it from the arms hitting the stalk? Or is it electric interference when the airbag deploys?
I heard several years back that it was to help clear the windshield after an impact so if the vehicle is still moving and the driver still is capable of steering, they can see where they are going IF possible depending on the accident. I believe it’s also one of the reasons the front air bags need to deflate as quickly as possible. Don’t quote me on that as that may be incorrect info I heard.
PREVIOUS GEN TUNDRA (07-13-ISH) AND RANGER COMBO IN THUMBNAIL!!😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Why test conditions are not same?
I have people hit the back window in my Frontier. Just when they’re annoying me though and I pop it into 2nd then they pip down haha
for everyone wishing they explained why vehicles were given a certain score: they do. you just have to take 3 seconds and look it up on their website. their website also includes photographs with captions explaining what is good or bad about whatever is in the photo.
From watching this and surprisingly seeing every truck for the most part on the poor side I’m assuming the weight and size is its strong and weak point. Not only do the crumple zones have to take the grunt of the impact but also the force from the weight behind the impact.
to anyone wondering why the rivian had no rear seat dummy, i think its because they did the rivian test a year ago, and only now they are testing rear seat. the rivian is a hard to find truck, which is why they couldnt test it again here. just my opinion
]
Where is the Ridgeline and Vera Cruz?
They were testing actual trucks. 😂
@@GraySquirrel-374 I knew someone would say that.
I didn’t see a difference between good and bad
I noticed the jeep taking so much less damage and I checked and there is less deaths in the jeep and the Frontier has the most deaths per 1000
Were did you find that information?
Great 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Why?
Nice video keep up
Shitty video, it’s rigged to make EV’s look better.
how about doing 60 or 70 mph crashes, its about what they are driving at
No chance or extremely small chance of survival in any vehicle so no need to test.
High speed rollovers happen at those speeds, smashing into barriers like this usually happens at lower speeds such as this (35).
At those speeds they're more interested in keeping the majority of your parts in the immediate vicinity.
That’s why you have to pay attention and diligently do the maintenance.
Get rid of as much speed as possible. There is only so much that can be done to absorb energy.
Махнете въздушните възглавници. Научете се да карате както трябва, да спазвате правилата и да пазите и другите..😊👍
They made sure the Rivian did the best...... what a surprise!!👎
TBH - I see very little difference between them all… Suppose there is something on the measurements that makes the difference?
That’s correct. You can’t tell much different from the videos unless there’s a radical variance. The difference shows up in the measurements, which are made public.
The difference is in the bribe.
That’s a good or bad thing when you are talking safety.
Go back twenty years or to some car markets that don’t regulate car safety. I’m glad we are seeing any testing. It gives you more information when you’re purchasing your next vehicle.
It’s amazing that the environment people want better a fuel economy, therefore cars and trucks are made with and yet you expect them to hold up good to a crash test and and every crash is different
Every evaluation that ends up with a poor rating should mean that the manufacturer should have to redesign their vehicle to be safer. I can get a ticket for not driving with my seatbelt on, but these major manufacturers can sell me a vehicle that will still hurt me badly even with the seatbelt on? Makes no sense
it's not a legal requirement for manufacturers to make a safe car. They improve safety for their sales, because better safety sells more than poor safety.
The seat belt prevents you being launched through the windshield or thrown around the vehicle.
The manufacturers are forced to fit them by law, same thing for the occupants.
How was the frontier acceptable when the rear passenger hit the head on the window?
All crash tests with electric cars that have the key turned off are not valid, the electrical system in a deactivated state does not burn
I’m sure the gas tanks are empty in the liquid fuel vehicles.
If it burst into flames, you might never get behind the wheel or ride as a passenger again.
Got me a 2017 F150 crew cab. I believe it was a Top Safety Pick back then. I don't think the newer F150's are considered top picks. I could be wrong.
Also looks like the firewall gets pushed in, crushing your legs.
Looks like I need to buy a used Bradley.
Get used to doing 50 mph give or take.
The F-150 got more damage than the Silverado and Ram but got a higher score.😂😂
Damage is subjective.
In a perfect crash, the vehicle absorbs all the energy and the occupants receive very little.
A perfect outcome.
Time to get a new ride though.
All the trucks tested had the 34 year old and outdated Gloomy Grey, Charcoal Grey or Boring Black interior colors that became popular in the last Millennium.
Yep they’re all NEW except the interior designers are just as depressed as they were in 1990.
You are supposed to be looking at the road not at your interior
@@skysteppes1017 The interior is the first thing that you see when you open the door to get into your vehicle.
If all you’re looking at then why isn’t your vehicle hot pink or purple?
It’s a proven fact that when the economy is shaky, there’s wars and rumors of wars, there’s civil unrest people desire dark, gloomy, drab colors, but when the world is at peace, the economy is stable and there’s civil rest, people enjoy bright cheerful colors.
Seattle, Washington is a prime example. The skies are normally gray. Most houses, businesses, vehicles are gray and gloomy. The interiors of vehicles are dark gray or black. The interiors and motif colors are gray.
Seattle is the suicide capital of the USA. Gray is everywhere in and around Seattle.
My wife and I are very optimistic and tend to be happy with life .
After 34 years of gloomy, drab, depressing, outdated, boring gray, charcoal gray and black automobile interiors have been shoved down everyone’s throats by every automaker since the last millennium and we are sick and tired of it.
What happened to classy upbeat, happy colors?
Why be like everyone else? What happened to everyone’s individuality?
We have thousands of so called new pick ups or Ute's here in MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA. You see them being flung around like sports cars.
Honda Ridgeline made the list, BTW. No clue why it wasn't included.
Did not show side impact for the Tundra?
I'll take the vehicle that did the side impacts... That didn't get damaged at all.... lol
I noticed that on both Toyota's, the front wheel was pushed pretty far back, which would likely crush the legs of the person driving.
The cyber truck just blew them all out of the water.
Until that battery lites off
No ice truck has caught on fire before after an accident? Also when they do that exact testing the batteries never lights off
The Cybertruck hasn’t been tested yet. The video that Tesla released was a different test, conducted internally by Tesla. We don’t yet know how the CT will do in the front offset test.
Tesla cherry picks their tests and I wouldn't believe anything they put out
@@sporkybutterz why is it that the Model 3 has the highest test score of any car ever tested? A 5.2 out of 5.0. They are the safest cars on the road.
Lots of not broken windshields interesting
2 years ago there was a comment, in another article that, there is no place for "marginal" as an evaluation comment in 5 star rated vehicles.
Other than the Nissan frontier and rivian R1t every single other truck had severe submarines for the rear passenger which is why most of the trucks got poor ratings
How does the extra weight of a battery-powered vehicle affect the safety measures of a fossil-fueled vehicle in a head-on collision?
Prob have something to do with the car weight
These were all good results except where the rear passenger hit his head on the rear window. The passenger cabins were all intact.
I don’t get it-how can an overall rating of POOR mean a vehicle is safe?
I take your point, but there will be worse and better. A poor rating does not mean it is a death trap.
Ok I think I figured this out,you see a car coming at you head on turn so you’re hit in the side and you’ll be ok.
Comercial de Rivian.
That poor dummy keeps getting back into the rear seat on every trip. He would be smarter taking a bus.
100,000 for a truck made with plastic and a sun roof !!!
Look at '60-'70s highway crash documentaries. See how "superior" vehicles did in a crash compared to today, lol..
If you have a Silverado you can tell all your buddies you kicked yourself in the forehead in the back seat
Faltou o mais importante.
TESLA
YOU DIDN'T PUT A SPACE IN 2:01 DESCRIPTION!!😪😪
So the truck that launches you off in the abyss is considered good?? Got it👍
The rivian has a lot more mass to be stopped, visually you could see a better absorption in the head on collisions, is a bad reflection on the major big brands. The rangers result is bad for a new engineered vehical.
The only truck to get good ratings was the rivian. Small overlap, 40% offset frontal and side impact. 2/3 of collisions are front end collisions. The object most likely to kill you in a crash is a tree. 80% of fatalities are single vehicle crashes.
I think they need to use a dirt bank instead of a metal barrier
Ridgeline number 1
Why don’t they use occupant survival percentages , what does acceptable, average, poor, mean? As the types and nature of injuries mount up the number gets lower.
Did anyone notice that the thumbnail is ai made?

Can you show my 2003 Silverado? Lol
Amazing to see the Rivian score so well, best in class. Awesome engineering performance for a company’s very first vehicle.
They paid them off, the scores were rigged to make EV’s look better.
Except for the part where they weren’t tested the same as all the others with a passenger in the back flopping around and breaking their neck. Bet all the others get much higher ratings without the data of the back passenger negatively impacting (phrasing) their score.
What are you talking about? The test was the same.
@@jysmtl The Rivian didn’t have a passenger dummy in the back seat for the head on test. That’s a big hit all the other trucks took that the Rivian got a pass on.
@@jefffalks1519 No one gets a “pass”. The rear child side dummy is a new addition to the test (added last summer I think?), so the Rivian must’ve been tested before that. Indeed, when there’s a new test or new component to a test, most vehicles struggle to get it right until the engineers have time to engineer specifically for that test. Still a remarkable engineering performance by Rivian to get the highest rating for a pickup in its first outing.
Poor controls to push sales for some.
2:01 Toyota Tacoma
The tacoma was poor? But it's in the video as safest?
I dont think the thumbnail was a very safe crash
That old style dodge didn't look to safe lucky the dummy was wearing a seatbelt or it would have fallen out !
A las motos, ¿Por qué no les hacen esas pruebas también? Yo me transporto en moto.
I don't recall anyone hitting a concrete barrier like this in the real world. Why do they drive up prices for what might happen instead of real world situations like the side impact tests?
Dirt banks too
I'd rather them test on a solid immovable concrete barrier, knowing I'm more likely to hit something more giving in the real world, thus being safer. It's impossible to test for every real world situation, so they go for the hardest thing.
@@gwot The real world results are mixed, the death rate isn't jumping for each new test. It seems they just want cars more expensive to engineer and build so that they are less affordable.
@@rogerrussell9544 and what do they gain from that... and don't come up with conspiracy theories about them getting paid and stuff. They're trying to make cars safer, to save lives, does that mean more expensive to engineer? I don't doubt that. But sounds like you rather have a 20k car that is built with cardboard. You want cheaper cars, i get it, i do too, but you want to sacrifice crash safety for it? I bet the safety engineering cost is not that much compared to marketing, logistics and raw materials to build a car.
@@gwot Haven't you ever read anything from expert futurists? Haven't you ever studied how the real monsters control helpless populations?
The Rivian was ripped apart but received a good? I am calling BS.
This video says safest pickup trucks but the evaluations are poor. Seeing how the wrangler preformed and jeeps extreme lack of safety, no wonder the gladiator did not do well.
Would there be a problem with adding an airbag to the driver and passenger seat Rear for the passengers, has it been taken into consideration since most of them look like they suffer from bad whiplash. You could consider going back to a Tudor pick up or a crew cab instead of every manufacturer, making a f$#king 4 door I certainly wouldn't put my kids back there. Of course, I wouldn't buy a 4 door pick up anyway. Kind of defeats the purpose of a pickup, just my opinion.
If you want to haul, everybody around by a SUV, they seem to be safer. Especially?
