  • Apple is ripping you off on the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro by charging you over $800 for a phone with a 60hz refresh rate on the display, last years processor, and decade old charging technology with USB 2.0 - the same technology as lightning chargers, but with a USB-C connector.

I hate when people make the argument of “well most people don’t notice or care about the refresh rate, so why should they stop making phones with 60Hz?” To me, it’s Apple taking advantage of their customers and cheaping out on the base model iPhones, not giving them basic features that every other flagship phone has, and still charging at least $800 for them

@jpmcnown1 - You nailed it. Additionally, think about all the Apple-own-ian customers who pay so much money and a premium price for their devices, and then have to spend even more money for Apple's overpriced rip-off adapters.
The sad thing is that over the last several years it seems that the quality of Apple's products, especially their Macbooks, has really gone downhill. Over the last several years, there's a sort of acceptance by apple customers which they realize their devices will not be as reliable and won't have the better longevity which they used to have.
I am sure that Apple has no problems with this shorter lifespan of their products and consider it to be planned obsolescence so their customers can come back and buy their devices on a more frequent and regular basis. Some Apple-own-ians have become so entrenched and trapped into that eco system that they won't consider anything else except for apple products and devices.
Apple customers are mostly oblivious to this situation with the refresh rate, among other comparisons. Remember it wasn't to long ago that that the regular entry level iPhones, the non- Pro and non Pro Max models, didn't even have 1080 displays? Or going back even further, expandable storage on an iPhone wasn't available, whereas Samsung and other Android phone manufacturers used to offer phones with this feature.
Welcome to the world of Apple, think different.

Apple's marketing is genius and they clear and away IMO have the best marketing of any company. They obviously know their users, their repeat buyers especially, and take advantage of their lack of caring and education in regards to what they are buying especially in comparison to what is the accepted norm in the tech community. They have created this bubble they operate in and they have fully gotten their users to believe the same which is why Apple rarely if ever makes any direct comparisons to what another OEM is doing and continues to coin certain terms differently to what the industry norm is and further creates this idea that they are excluded from the rest of the industry and this belief is very much apparent to diehard iPhone users who will never think twice about an Android phone. I have never transferred files using a cable. Probably, 95% of iPhone users don't care about USB 3 connection. We buy Apple Phones because of iOS and it's wireless ecosystem. And the hype around 120Hz is stupid. It's nice, for sure. But it's not necessary and doesn't really impact any daily usage. I have disabled ProMotion on my MacBook Pro, so what. It's not something necessary for an average user. iOS has been smooth since day one and everyone knows it, we don't actually need 120hz. This is focusing on the important aspects that a device should offer, ignoring the nerdy things that a couple of geeks think are "necessary". If you need to transfer hundreds of gigabytes every day and seeing high FPS all the time, its OK, just buy an Android. But don't bother us, we know what we are buying.

THANK YOU!! I've been saying the exactly same thing about tech reviewers for years now. They all seem to want to dump on Google Pixels while finding any excuse in the world for iPhones lacking features. Once of the BIGGEST lacking features of the iPhone is the ability to communicate with other non-Apple devices. I own both the iPhone 14 Plus and the Pixel 7 Pro. About 95% of the time I'm reaching for my Pixel 7 Pro because I can get it to connect to my Surface Pro 7, Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet and Asus Chromebook and it works flawlessly. My iPhone doesn't connect to any of these things and I'll be damned if I'm going to spend a fortune to buy an Apple Mac or iPad just to be able to use Apple's locked-down ecosystem to connect. Also, now that Google Messages uses RCS, I'm getting almost all of the exact same features that Apple iMessage does between iPhones, but I can do it with Samsung, Xiaomi, Pixel, OnePlus, etc. And, I can do it on my Pixel phone, my Asus Chromebook, my Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet and even my Microsoft Surface Pro 7. So, in my opinion, iMessage is the lacking messaging app, not Google Messages.

A lot of people who are thinking of upgrading are coming from XR and XS series. The faster chip, usb c (finally), dynamic island, Better Cameras, wide angle lenses, better aperture, IOS17 features only coming to iPhone 12 and above, better speakers, smaller bezels etc etc. Not to mention iMessage and the Apple Eco System. I'm not defending the 60Hz display because I agree that 90 would be appropriate for the price while still leaving a gap to the Pro phones, but I think the reason why people sing the iPhones praises regardless of the 60Hz screen is because you get such a polished and excellent user experience with iPhone/iOS. You are buying a phone that will easily last 6+ years and even once it no longer supports the latest iOS, you will STILL get security patches. The camera is very decent for the price/category, they have a powerful CPU, GPU, AI etc. They are good value REGARDLESS ofthe 60Hz screen. Personally I am a tech enthusiast so I would only ever get the Pro models anyway but I think for most people who probably dont even know what 60Hz means, it is fine and they will be super happy with it regardless.

It is all a matter of company philosophy. Apple has since upgraded their products very slowly - for all their products. Look from another point, Since the begin of the beginning, Apple created the "expectation bar" People sit and wait for months for the next product improvements, speculations are like crazy, and then when the product is shown, the air goes out, and tech reviewers get disappointed, but the regular people buy like crazy the new products. What is happening is that tech reviewers helped Apple build the expectation bar, and later when the new product is below the expectation, your influence on the people is zero. This is the genius marketing strategy Apple succeeded in achieving 🙂. If you buy a phone based on specs and logic, you will buy the Samsung S23 which is by far more advanced than any Apple phone, but buying an iPhone is a totally different thing.

I want an iPhone for the bezeless retina screen, but iPhones don't support hi-res formats like APTX or LDAC, which is a huge dealbreaker for me.

The best way to stop this scummy behaviour is to vote with your wallet. Hold onto your “older” devices for longer. Poor sales will force them to rethink their value proposition. I’m still rocking my 4 year old iPhone 11 Pro Max. I may just have its battery replaced if the battery health drops down to the 80s - currently at 91%

I honestly can't stand most tech reviewers for not calling out apple on their bs ways...yet singing the praises of basic things that have already been on android for years or even worse acting like something that isn't created by apple is the most difficult thing in the world to figure out. Look at pixel watch reviews with the band mechanism. It's really not that difficult.

    1:56 I mean.
They could make the 120hz standard for the "Base" iPhone and 244hz for the Pro models.
That WOULD actually make it be "Pro" but of course, Apple doesn't want to treat their customers as smart people.

well apple is known for using words like: retina display, promotion, supercharge, etc. then add words like extra, super, ultra, plus, etc for the following generations to trick people that doesn't know much about tech.

And many people, especially in the US, don't realize that USB-C was a European Union regulation. Without it, Apple would not be able to sell iPhones throughout Europe. So this is not a feature, but an obligation.

I don't have a problem with people buying any phone. iPhones are very good phones and most people that buy them are very happy with them. I don't think everyone needs a $1000 "pro" version, and if you want an iPhone it's the latest and greatest, so I would say yeah go buy one if that's what they want. I'm just tired of Apple ripping everyone off and pretending like they are so great when it's not

  • @hhhmmmmmmmm

I couldn't be happier that you are holding Apple to task. I feel like there's a tipping point now. It's enough already. After 12 years I am officially done with iPhone. I will keep my 13 mini but my next phone will either be a pixel 8 or a fold 5. It also amazes me how some of the loyalists defend Apple. At this point, apple is a shameless marketing company primarily and a tech company secondarily. "Look over here at this shiny new thing while we distract you from the features you haven't been getting for many years." "Only this watch will save your life. We are saving the planet and if you buy any other product you are destroying the planet." I want to throw up. Last years chip, 60hz but we r virtuous. If Apple spent as much money and time on their software as they did on their marketing events, the iPhone might be good. Sorry for the rant but they are just so gross right now. Peace.

The worse is that the vast majority of iPhone users/fans is that they cannot even begin to understand or name the specs in their phone. They just want it because of something as stupid as a new color or the fact that it's new lol

In my view, most users need a working phone with a nice, user-friendly UI and as much safety as possible, and Apple is exactly delivering this. Not everyone needs all the settings and functions that can overload the user. Also, not everyone requires detailed specifications, as long as the phone works as intended during its use. The functional ecosystem is more important than having the best specifications for most users. It’s like having the best car, but if there’s no gasoline station, it becomes useless.

No, not a lot has changed. That's partially why I've always been an Android user. However, for the changes they did make, they kept the prices the same. (Except for the 15 Pro Max, which doubles the storage, so it's not really an increase.) I will say, too, that the lack of 120hz is the biggest drawback of the regular iPhone models for me. However, 60hz on an iPhone is not nearly as noticeable as it is on an Android. iPhones are buttery smooth and fast no matter what the refresh rate is. iPhones never feel laggy or choppy whether 60hz or not. I have the Pixel 6 Pro. (Complete trash. Don't ever buy one.) It has 120hz, but it's so laggy and choppy that it feels like 60hz at best. Using an iPhone without promotion is nothing like using a cheap Android with 60hz.
