    I grew up in 5 houses that were within 2 blocks of Saint John's cemetery, if you know where that is on 26th St and Duncan. Got a great public school education from the early 60s to the mid 70s from teachers that wanted to lift me and my fellow students out of the relative poverty that existed, even then, had a lot of fun growing up down there, making our own entertainment, as you had to do in that scenario. I wouldn't walk around down there on a bet, today. I do "street level" Google Map and Google Earth "strolls" around my old haunting grounds and it breaks my heart to see the ruin. I thought it was bad that we had at least one bar on every corner, sometimes two, but to see that even those bars are empty lots or collapsed buildings is just unreal.

  • @splender88
    @splender88 Před 2 lety +9

    Pretty accurate for the most part but there are many very nice neighborhoods mainly in the east end of the city. If a visitor were to come here the first thing they would notice is there are panhandlers on almost every corner of the major roadways. This is one of my biggest gripes about living in Louisville many are homeless but not all they just find it an easy way to make money. Near these big intersections, entire homeless camps full of tents are allowed on public property. There is garbage everywhere in these areas which are never cleaned up. Allowing this has made the entire city look like garbage. There are many places for the homeless to live and get fed but many tend to just panhandle instead.

      Totally agree on the panhandler situation though it has gotten a little better over the past 6-12 months. If you ever go by Oxmoor Mall you'd see a girl missing one of her legs standing by the entrance to the Mall or over by the Wendy's across the street. Her boyfriend/whatever would stand by the exit ramp from the Watterson to Shelbyville Rd. They would be out there all day everyday. Must've made a lot of $.

    There is no way he is from Louisville, some of the views are not even from areas he's speaking on especially the Shawnee area, at least nothing i've seen in the area as l am born and raised and live in that area of town. Totally inaccurate and purposely edited and narrated to make the west end of Louisville look bad. While true Louisville has it's rough, dangerous and seedy area's this is true of all cities across America especially in 2022 crime and evil darkness is all across the US even in the subberbs all the way down to small rural country towns truth be told. You can go to any city or town and find all the bad seedy parts of it edit it, narrate and piece it together and make it look horrible and threatening to anyone who doesn't know the difference. Yes even the city or town you live in too wherever you may be can be painted that way. No one is exempt from crime and mayhem in this dangerous day and age and if one thinks so they are completely delusional and without discernment. Monsters and demons are everywhere now even in some of you all's very own neighborhoods and homes that you live in may be a boogeyman. No matter how posh and beautiful your surroundings may be there will be danger and evil that surrounds you rather you choose to see it or not.

    Lifelong Louisvillian. I like your video, but most of this violence is more recent. Grew up in the South End In the 80s and 90s, a few blocks from Americana Apartments. Worked 3rd shift at the Super America down the street. There was some trouble back then (robberies, hand to hand violence) but there were very few murders. In the 80s and 90s me and my friends roamed the whole area freely. From Southside Drive to New Cut all the way to Hazelwood and Berry/7th Street with no issues. When I was in high school I had friends that deep in Portland, and I could take the bus down there with no problems. The murder rate has gone sky high just in the last few years. And it's all over the city. There's no "safe' part of town now. But I live in Germantown, which people think is dangerous now. And I've never had trouble. I never had trouble in south end (where my parents still live), in Berry, on 8th Street. The desperation of the COVID pandemic caused the rise in crime.

    Louisville, Kentucky has its fair share of struggling neighborhoods. Here's a look at some of the factors that contribute to urban blight and some possible solutions for revitalization:
    Factors Contributing to Urban Blight
    * Poverty and lack of economic opportunity
    * High crime rates
    * Abandoned buildings and vacant lots
    * Deteriorating infrastructure
    Revitalization Strategies
    * Community Development Initiatives: Partner with residents to improve their neighborhoods through job training, mentorship programs, and beautification projects.
    * Economic Development: Attract businesses and create jobs by offering tax breaks and other incentives.
    * Improved Housing: Provide affordable housing options and invest in improving existing housing stock.
    * Public Safety: Increase police presence and implement crime prevention programs.

    To people saying these areas are not bad: the numbers speak differently. If you tolerate this way of life you have low standards of living. Also the idea about "don't start nothing won't be nothing" is selfish af because you're OK with tolerating your fellow humans living shitty lives. But as long as you gets money everything is good right? This is why people can't take the hood seriously or get behind this ghetto mindset. Expect more from yourself than living in a dump

I used to walk on Taylor Blvd when Tarc dropped me off every morning and evening Not a peep of action. Westend is many things. Nothing ever happens in my cousins neighborhood or in the street where my friend has church. Victory Park got wild, Preston and Breakinridge I stay away from, but many areas even in the West and Southend are fine unless you got beef. Car break ins are a problem though. Don’t leave your Kia alone trust me. I wasn’t feeling the generalization of this video though, plenty of good respectful people have come from some of those hoods.
