I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today (April 16, 2023). this was the basis for our Sunday School Lesson of the Day. It was entitled "Jesus Cooks Breakfast." The hymn, "Now the Green Blade Rises," is a good hymn to compliment this Gospel Lesson.
I was reading the commentary on Peter deciding to go fishing and the opinions of some on should he have went or why he went. I didn’t see one that comes to mind. Peter didn’t invite the others to go, they just said they were going with him. So Peter may have originally intended to go alone. As someone who fished A LOT when I was in better health, fishing is a good way to get some clarity. When you have a lot on your mind or feeling overwhelmed, you can go fishing for a little break and clear your head. Of course I always feel like I’m fishing with Jesus, but maybe Peter had that in mind too. Maybe he needed to gather his thoughts of everything that had happened recently. Maybe he wanted to reminisce about the times he was on the boat with Jesus. I don’t think we’ll ever know why, but as we see, Jesus was there.
