DJI POCKET 3 vs DJI ACTION 4 POST EDITING NOTES:
1. Pocket 3 is not meant to replace Action cameras, the Pocket 3 is now bigger than the Pocket 2 and many users don't consider it as a tiny camera anymore. The Action 4 is quite small and can be more discreet in some cases.
2. Action 4 has a feature called "image enhancement" that will help to minimize the vibration glitch effect. I did mention this in my original review, but it has a few problems: It doesn't support Horizon Balance, and D-LOG M will not be available.
3. Action 4 has a wider field of view, but using the maximum FOV will have some distortion that for many users is not very pleasing.
4. I will add more details as needed.

I have to say that action camera is a better value for money, considering it's versatility and all weather and condition usage. Most people go on holidays and have kids as families. I see pocket 3 to a more specific market and group of people. Even though action is advertised more for action but it's just so versatile and durable.
Yeah I do agree, it’s rougher, it’s more like the traditional point and shoot and everyone knows how to use that. The price is also lower. There is a small learning curve with the P3, and I’ve read from some users that they get overwhelmed by so many features that they need to remember when they use it.
so would you recommend the Action 4 for a travel camera over the Pocket 3 since it's more durable?@@OttoJulian_

I am go with Pocket 3 because the low light quality is insane! Perfect match with those who take lot of city lights and vlogging during nights. I am in Tokyo and this camera blown me away!

Thank you for helping me decide whether to get a Pocket 3 or Action 4. I'm currently using a Pocket 2 in all my CZcams travel videos but I find the Pocket 2 lacking when it comes to shooting night videos. I was thinking of an Action 4 but watching this episode helped me go the other way and get a Pocket 3.

For the low light, or even the general comparison I would love to see Pocket 3 vs. Action 4 (mounted to a handheld gimbal...say the Hohem M6). Would that help with the "vibration glitch effect"?
The fact that the Action 4 is even coming close in many conditions AND it's waterproof, tiny as heck and super durable is remarkable.

Hello. Sure you are welcome! Yeah that glitchy effect happens when you use the electronic stabilization. Using a gimbal will help but can introduce other small problems. But in general, I agree with you, it’s a very good camera and among other action cameras, it handles that glitch thing quite well

Between the 2 i will choose the pocket because of the clarity and gimbal. And it has a waterproof casing.

thanks for video. Pocket 3 mounten on sturdy surface is also heavily shaking image. Action 4 use shutter 50/100, EV +2 / +3, ISO 800/1600
What are those Action 4 settings for? Low light? 1/50th and 100th will still have the blur glitchy look
Agreed with the P3 not being waterproof. In my case not a big deal since I rarely make videos when it’s raining. I’ll try those settings with the Action 4 🙂
@@lumixS5M2 I’ve seen some reports about that. I get the feeling that now it’s not an option (high temp option) but rather it just activates internally depending on the location. 1080 would be a bummer but EU rules/restrictions about the whole topic is exaggerated in my opinion.

Hey Vincent! Thank you so much for watching and for all your support throughout these years. Your current mic will not work with the Pocket 3. Not sure if that’s something that DJI can update but I have the feeling that the technology (receiver) that is inside the do it all handle is not present on the P3. I know… it’s a bummer 😞
@@OttoJulian_ DJI mic also works with the pocket 3. You just need to plug the receiver into the camera.
Hi Otto, great video. Just one quick question. Can the Pocket 3 keep everything on the screen in focus like the Action 4? Or does it always blur out the background when you do a walk and talk vlog? Sometimes when you travel you want to showcase the beautiful scenery in the background as you walk around and talk to the camera at the same time, and thus it's also important to be able to keep the background in focus. Blurring out the background is nice in certain situations. But there are also times when keeping the background in focus is just as important. Thank you.
you are right, sometimes it's important to keep everything in focus. Unfortunately we can't change the aperture value and the lens on the Pocket 3 does produce the blur effect in the background if you are close enough. You can touch the screen to focus on the background but you will be out of focus. You can also make the background less blurry if you are not too close to the camera, but that would not be possible if you want to walk and talk to the camera.
@@OttoJulian_ Thx Otto for the prompt reply and very clear explanation. I was hoping perhaps DJI can make this happen with a firmware update. But like you said that's just the nature of the fast lens of the DJI = shallow depth of field. I'm still torn between the Pocket 3 and Action 4. May have to dip into my kids college funds to get both. 😄
@@alanpham9055 haha. Getting both is actually a good idea, you get the best of both worlds and hey, if you feel that one of them is not being used so much, sell it out and recover some $$$$.

Thanks for another comparison video. Can you confirm issues of over heating while recording 4k 60fps??
I did mention the overheating aspect on both individual reviews for this products. Bottom line if you don't want to watch them, Action 4 did overheat, Pocket 3 didn't. But I'm about to make a different set of tests, maybe in a few weeks using different parameters
On social media someone was complaining that if you continuously record 4k60fps after 10 mins it gets overheated. That is the reason I asked you.

I have similar motivations; in my case, I have been in IT some 40+ years. I enjoy filming with multiple drones, cameras. The last place i want to spend more time is at the PC.

I think i can use some of that features instead the ability to change lenses if I went with mirrorless cameras, although in this price range you Will not get 4k without crop, 10 bit internally or even that versatility 😅

Basically the DJI Pocket 3 have a better image quality and features Overall!!!! However is not a Rugged camera, so the Action 4 is better anywhere were the Pocket 3 can't go (Wet/humid , dusty, sandy places or fast action/dangerous where the pocket's gimbal migh be damaged), if you're want to walk around cities, parks, indoors, get the POCKET 3, if want to film underwater, surfing, biking, motocross, skydiving, get the action 4.

I would like to see you put the action 4 on a Gimbal Turn off the stabilization and then compare to the Pocket three in low light conditions
It’s not going to be different from what you saw in this video. Turning off the stabilization will only get rid of the motion blur-glitchy effect, but it won’t make the sensor get more light and it won’t make the image look better.

This was explained in the official forums. Here was the official reply:
"Osmo Pocket 3 adopts a magnetic axis lock design instead of a mechanical lock. Therefore, when it is shaken while powered off, there may be a slight sensation of looseness accompanied by a clicking sound caused by the magnet reattaching after a slight movement. Please rest assured that this is a normal phenomenon. In addition, to maximize the controllable angles of the gimbal, the tilt axis lock is designed with a relatively low locking force. When the product is not going to be used for a long time or if it needs to be carried in a backpack, we recommend you power off the device and store it in a protective cover or carrying bag. "
I have just got the pocket 2 , but i have had a nightmare as the device wont connect to my S22 to download the app in order to use the camera , The screen is now locked , There is no information anywhere on how to unlock the screen , so i am unable to go to settings to re set the camera . even the store i got it from had no idea . So they have returned it and i got a refund . I like the camera but want to use it on a tripod to film myself when fishing so i can use the wireless mic , but not so sure this camera is now the right one for the job , Any advice would be appreciated as im new to vlogging .
That’s unfortunate. Once you get one of these devices you need to do the activation process. For Android users we need to download the app directly from the DJI website (the app is not in the play store or it’s unusable). I would prefer the Pocket 3 over the pocket 2 but you said something about fishing. The Action 4 might give you some peace of mind in case you drop it or if it gets wet, it’s also inside the price range of the P2 but connecting an external mic will expose it to the water and there are some other details about using an external mic. Hope the video gave you a better idea. Good luck
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply , The camera will only be sitting on a Tripod, and if it Rains a lot I would stop filming anyway as no one wants to watch someone sitting getting wet, but I would need the camera to be able to cope with getting a little damp. You are welcome. Yeah for what you’ve explained so far an action camera might be a better choice. The other one available is the GoPro 12 but I prefer this action 4 from DJI.
Is osmo action 3 is wise buy today. Here it is 10000/- rupees less than osmo action 4. The adventure combo??

@@OttoJulian_ i guess pocket 3 suits more as its sensor is small and it will be great while shoot at night. As well as gimble and its screen are great. But I heard pocket series will create problem in rough and tough condition as its build quality isn't strong for rough load. I dont know if this is right or now. So in terms of durability i think i should go for action 4.

@anandolodh2458 I think you meant Action 4 at the end. Yeah the gimbal is more fragile and you have to take care of it. That’s why I asked what your shooting style is like, for action/adventures and fast paced videos the Action 4 might be a better option, specially if you use it only during the day with a decent amount of light. It’s a difficult decision hope this helps a bit

I think my tyoe of video will be front facing, walking and talking. Taking nature, street clips. Exploring foods.

I'm not a content creator .. But the creator package just seems to be a better options in terms of value per dollar/euro 🤷♂
The tripod stand, mic, battery etc. are all really useful 👍
I feel the same way too. But for someone who is not going to use the mic at all, they can pay for the battery if needed, and use any tripod that they already have. Same goes for the wide angle lens but I know a lot of people won't even need it. I feel that ND filters are more important but that's me.

Overheating problems.
I tried to do a 4K 60fps HDR video and my camera stopped working after less than 15min.!

@@OttoJulian_ Apparently some units are having overheating problems filming in almost any mode for longer than 10-20 minutes. Others have had overheating problems relating to slower SD card usage. Seems for the all, the gimbal area will get warm and for some of these they get too hot (especially ones in EU that are required to shut down at lower temps). There also appears to be a screen rotation failure with some units (won't "lock" into place going landscape or won't "lock" into either position) within days of use or even out of the box.
Obviously there are some quality control issues. DJI did have one reply with expected minimum runtime before overheating and it wasn't great but people are pushing for an official datasheet for that. many users were able to run until battery died at 4k 60fps though... so knowing people with issues are posting and those enjoying their units are not... it may be very small numbers involved versus production numbers.
