  • Cold air intake Dyno test is WRONG before & after.
    I give proof with a comparison the dyno results
    aren't accurate.
    Can a cold air intake damage your engine?
    Today on Nates interactive auto we go over the cold air intake problems. So people say a cold air intake can cause a check engine light and thats true it possibly can. K&N performance cold air intake is a good quality brand. K&N is the best cold air intake according to many users. Can a cold air intake void warranty, no if they can't show that by you using the intake it caused damage. But if they can then yes you could void the warranty. Cold air intake vs stock. The better choice can depend on the intake and installation. cold air intake vs turbo we can cover at some point. OEM vs cold air Intake or original intake.

    Had a spectra CAI on my 6.0 vortec for 9 years. I switched back to my stock box just to see if I could tell a difference in power. I absolutely lost power. It’s the high rpm high load power where you can feel it. I tow a 38’ camper and instantly felt a power loss during acceleration. Kept stock box on for a week then switched back to CAI. Stock box will never be used again.

      @farisaltorki Před měsícem +1

      What the guy said is right you basically losed power because you returned the stock filter not the air box, if you kept the air box with K&N filter you will gain more power because you combine race filter along with air box
      Becuse air box is sucking air from outside the engine bay
      But CAI it suckes from inside engine bay So you will be sucking hot air

    • @AllDayBlazer89

      @farisaltorki to be fair when the cars moving the cold air intake is superior then a standard bixix trapping heat inside it. When stationary, the standard air box is slightly more efficient. When moving the cai makes considerable more power as more air flow with coller air temp means higher density of air to fuel ratio which makes power load of like in winter how turbo cars go alot better...

  • @bassw1758
    @bassw1758 Před 11 měsíci +12

    I've always seen a increase in
    power when the filter had access to free-flowing air. You get an increase in power because the stock airbox is extremely inefficient, they're designed to be as quiet as possible, most of them have a hole right before the airbox sucking in air from your hot engine bay anyway, they do that so the engine doesn't hydrolock if you drive through a big puddle. If you fabricated an intake nicely you'll get five to ten per-cent increase in power, if the filter is in the middle of the engine bay sucking up hot-air you'll get a little bit of a decrease.

    Sitting idle or revving(of course)is gonna cause your temp to go up..but a good dyno tester knows to have forced airflow or a blower on the engine to simulate it going down the road ie, wind flow. CAI's are a great way to add midrange and top end to any engine. More airflow + more outflow = more power and better throttle response. As far as not being able to close a hood during a dyno test...I don't what thats about...

    I have a 1.8 turbo beetle. I just ordered a cold air intake for it, but that is only because my car is a turbo. I would never put a cold air intake on a non turbo car. There is no point. The only reason I want one is for enhanced turbo noises. It doesn’t give you much in terms of power gains, so sound is the main reason for getting one.

    This is indeed a topic of risk vs reward, driving speed, ambient temperature, length of snorkel, position of the entry point, material composition of said snorkel,,etc. Just for a few degrees in real world driving. 2014 gl63 the shoddy intake hoses provided by manufacturer is made of a felt like material and rips upon just looking at it, but the position was well researched, so I wrapped it in silicone tape and did notice the truck is a little more responsive.

    99% of the time there is a duct leading to your stock box. Leaving the duct and installing a short ram intake will breathe cold air from that said duct. If you don't remove the duct it's improving hp not losing. Also tuning the intake to your car will gain hp as well

I made sure it has fresh air supply with additional piping coming from foglight area on top of the stock "air" duct that the kit i have uses as well. from stop the car feels better and quicker, noticeably. Anything above 30-40 miles feels the same so there definitely is improvement and no real drawback of doing it. If you are in alot of stop and go traffic and its summer. There is a high chance of giving it a negative performance, then again. The stock airbox felt like that anyway. Even when you do find one that is fully designed to intake air from outside of the engine bay, they are hella expensive and never give the return on investment. S&B = $350 for 4hp? Do you feel 4hp? No. You can turn off your A/C and probably net gain around 4hp for free if you desperately need it for a street race LOL. Truth is, CAI make sound. People think sound = power, but it doesn't. That is why they take a baseline WITH THE HOOD OPEN first. Everything else stays the same, or do you think that all dyno tests are only valid if they have the hood closed on both ends of the test? Does that accurately 100% reflect real world driving conditions? Not at all, that was not the claim, only that they increased horsepower. If the test after shows an increase in horsepower and on both tests, the hood is open, how is that "rigged"?

    Your cold air intake isn't going to do much if you still use the stock exhaust system, also there's a difference between cold air vs short ram intakes.

    Of course you have to buy a new housing port. With rubber lining, etc. you should have said don’t use cold intake, improperly.

    Intakes are good only for the seller’s pockets. They don’t do anything a stock intake can’t do.

      I can say that many times if did incorrectly it can be worse. Have you had a bad experience with a cold air intake?

    • @wulf-3596

      While in some situations, this might be the case, that is not the case in every situation. There have been documented increases in power with aftermarket intakes. As far as the "cold air" part of the intakes, some vehicle manufacturers have taken this to heart. I had a 92 Chevy pickup, N/A with the filter on top of the carb, but the intake from that was fed from a port in the passenger side of the engine compartment that lead to cooler air from under the front quarter panel instead the hotter air from inside the engine bay, from the factory. My newer (than 92) Silverado does the same thing, as does my new Ram. So, while not strictly speaking an "aftermarket" intake, from my understanding, this lends credence to the belief that cold air intakes have something behind the science. If not, why do all three of these trucks (and others made the same way *from the factory*) try to use colder air from outside of the engine bay instead of inside? Pretty sure a lot of other vehicles do the same thing already, without aftermarket mods.

      Not true at all. My truck tows much better with the added torque going uphill. Don’t know what you’re talking about.

    Just throw a good free flowing element in there and open the intake hole to the box up a bit.....better than those open filter "Cai"

      Yes, it seems that there is very little "cold air intake" happening when stopped (hood up or down). And what about days that are already 100 degrees F?!?. Then it's impossible to have the filter receiving "cold air". Maybe the question is, does "cold air" even matter?

    When Tunie gets involved, you can maximize the power out of a cold air intake, but don’t go putting colder intakes on your grandma’s car it don’t work like that

  • @romper4444
    @romper4444 Před 3 měsíci

    Trust me, I've witnessed dozens of CAI dyno tests and yes they do make power, they have to be designed correctly for the engine platform its used on, and there has to already be an ineffeciency in the stock intake in order to take advantage of power increases.
    Modern cars also need proper tuning to accompany the intake to maximize gains.

    I thought about buying a Cold Air Intake. I would say it would look cool and sporty on my 2000 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder. There a Camry on the internet it was a 4 cylinder too. My young friend that works at Advance Auto Parts Store said don't. So far I haven't. Scotty Kilmer said not to either. Now you say not too. Okay I won't then geez.

    First: I have a CAI intake on my supercharger track use Civic with Ram air. And SHORT RAM INTAKE (up in engine bay) or COLD AIR INTAKE (away from engine located in fender) are two separate things. And yes I said track use only civic si. Not winter or rain driven.

    "Cold air intake"........The bad::: more chances of sucking in water on certain models, may require tune for best performance uplift, cost, air filter replacement availability, more noise,
    The good::: more noise, cooler intake temps, denser air charge, larger area, less restriction at WOT, looks cool, counts as a real mod...
