A small, secretive group has made it their mission to ‘liberate’ animals - by any means necessary. These animal rights activists are ready to break the law for their cause, from taking chickens from farms to storming abattoirs. But farmers say they’re being unfairly targeted and feel unsafe in their own backyard.
The Feed investigates Australia’s vegan underground to find out: how far are they prepared to go? We speak to an animal rights activist who’s willing to risk it all, and farmers whose lives have been impacted.

She proudly states that the chickens are confined to cages measuring 750cm² - which may sound like a lot (750cm is 7.5m, after all) but it's actually just a tiny bit bigger than an A4 piece of paper. Too small for a chicken to even spread their wings or turn around. Absolutely disgusting to treat an innocent being like that
Factory farms are a problem but bot all farms are factory farms and treat thier animals this way.

Cm2, not 7.5 metres2, 750 cm2 is approx 25cm by 25cm.(In real measures 10 by 10 inches) effectively the size of A4.

As a farmer I agree that caged eggs aren’t a nice way for eggs to be produced, but the farmers should be given the option to change their business structure to do proper free range eggs or chooks

That farmer has the audacity to talk about “animal welfare”, but all I see is absolutely horrific conditions.
Animals are not objects. We should start treating them like the sentient beings that they are - meaning we should abolish the animal industry.
Most of these animal species would be extinct if they weren't bred for consumption.

After 40 years still having nightmares about the factoryfarms I was in as a teen. And they were better then these hens were kept. The heat, the stench of amoniak, the fear, no space to move, the wounds everywhere, never sunlight and fresh air.

I gasped at that comparison. You can really see how completely detached the farmer is from the animals. She just sees them as object, might as well be a potato to her.

In the US even animal ranchers don't want the animal agriculture to continue, but they are deeply in debt and the industry is subsidized over $40 billion yearly.

I know someone, I think she's moved to Moscow now (at least, that was her most recent arrest), who would buy farm animals and make them live in her downtown apartment. She doesn't understand how to care for the animals but figures that it's better than death.

just watched a short bit....what id say to them is people becoming vegetarian (frugivore - fruits of field with dairy and eggs ok) is not a straightforward thing necessarily. encourage people to white meat and then to go off meat eventually - but it may take a long time....bodies and minds may be accustomed to certain vibes...ascending ones physical and mental health/levels not an overnight thing. ...takes time and effort. ...and being vegan isnt really the goal - God consciousness the goal. doing no harm is certainly part of that. ...vegans can often be quite physically/mentally unwell. and there is much to spiritual growth than just 'not eating meat' ...look up Brother Anandamoy talk "is peace possible in today's world' for a quote by Gandhi on this topic and much much more.
35000 chickens ,stealing/rescuing 2 chickens a month. it will take only 1458 years to save all the chickens.
They are a threat to democracy and they should be prosecuted, even though i am sympathetic to them and would say that free range farming is the moral minimum for me. In order for our society to be stable and fair, we cannot endorse such behaviour based on self-righteousness. If they want change they have to petition, peacefully protest and take other democratic actions to make the change they want to see in society, not this. That is tough to accept though..
I support democracy, but it is not fair to those who cannot vote, e.g. non humans. It isn't even fair to minority human voices. It's a decent, but flawed system. And if you want the same thing that these lawbreakers do (improved wellbeing, and freedom for all), then peaceful progress is simply too slow.

It seems like you would prefer to live in a world where conservatives can and do steal all the puberty blockers from medical clinics because the system is not fair and they need to stop kids from getting abused now. From their perspective, if you want kids to stop getting abused, you should be on their side.
You can't say that the vegans are OK and the conservatives are not because then you are saying that people are allowed to supersede the law as long as their personal moral system/beliefs align with yours.

The threat to democracy is the industry and politicians working together to reduce transparency and accountability. How is it acceptable that exposing extreme animal cruelty can land you in prison for YEARS but actually committing the cruelty gets a slap on the wrist (if anything). The current system doesn't reflect community expectations whatsoever because the industry goes to great lengths to hide their practices, with the complicity of corrupt politicians.
