get rid of the stupid 8-hour deadline and do everything properly. People who enjoy these kind of videos like to see the job done properly rather than racing towards an artificial deadline.
Yes, 100% agree. No one details a car in 8 hours; especially one in as much need as this one.
Totally agree!! This “urgency” thing makes the content cheap and doesn’t fit the reality of the scale of the work. I REALLY want to like this show (and I do ;), but as a Detailer and restorer I was cringing between the skipped steps and the finale finishes. Time restraints just don’t yield good work! It’ll reflect on the best of us. I’m sure these guys are great, but they are never going to show how great with the clock ticking (and no steamer!) I’d like to see that they blew out their pads and mops too! Ha ha ha. Cheers to them and production though, hopefully they will modify the show for us detail nerds!
Well, technically it was 16 man hours but I agree...don't rush to a deadline.
@@HarryBradbury agreed, however I guess it depends in how you look at it. 2 guys @ 8 hours is 16 hours in.

I was a professional car photographer in the '70s and '80s and remember LOVING this car when I was loaned it for a week's photography.

Would love to see this without the 8-hour deadline format - it just feels like such an arbitrary thing when you consider what detailing is meant to do for a car.
plus, taking the time and focusing on the task until it's done is the beauty of detailing
It was the onwers decission to make it quick, and thus , they got only 8 hrs.

13:13 cool tip for people who have rusty pitted chrome, use aluminum foil and windex glass cleaner.. rub the foil onto the chrome using the wintex as lube, some type of chemical reaction happens and restores it back to 80%-90%
#0000 steel wool works great
Soaking removable chrome parts in coca cola and using aluminium foil works well too.
Ive used a seasoned Scotch Brite pad with car shampoo and i little elbow grease then metal polish with great success

My old boy had a red E30 G reg back in 2002, interior door latch broke so he rigged up rope to open it. It was falling apart. Bloody loved that car. Ended up a banger racer on Isle of Man 💔

innit! Looks great, but when I was detailing, it would take me a whole day of prep before getting a pad on there!
This is definitely doable. But results will not be that great like it would be taking a few days to get it done.

E21, USDM 320i 5spd, was my first bimmer and car that I’ve owned. Bought it used $1800. Low on power but so fun to drive.

Great job on a lovely car! My very first car after getting the license was a e21 323i and I still miss it, awesome machine!
I've heard the 323i was a widow maker in this chassis. You must have had some "oh sh*t" moments.
@@Driver599 funny enough I never had any "oh shit"-moments with the e21 even though I drove like it was stolen pretty much all the time, however it only took me five days to totally wreck my E30 325 I got after the e21.
@@Driver599 the 323i was a great car and very stable on the road...as long as the rear tires were in good shape. if not then you could find yourself inside the wall of a house or the fence like I once had :)
143 hp 2.3 straight six in a compact car. it was a rocket in its’s day!

What snow foam do you use and what is the tool you use on the mats , not the extractor the brush type thing ??
All you need is Quentin at the end to say "well dash my buttons".
Wonder how much this would cost to get such a work done! I've seen old bmw's that looked far more faded and after just some hard work of cleaning and polishing looked like new again! Very impressive paint quality on those cars. They stand the test of time very well!

Back in 86 I didn't own one of these. I didn't take it to the beach with friends to cruise down the coastal roads. I recall that I never washed one or sat in one. One time I didn't take a girl to watch an open air film in one of these. Great memories!

My only comment is, at the start when they run around with brushes, shouldn't they rinse out the brush frequently? Or their just moving the grit around and increasing swirls?
a bit over the top considering the amount of foam and does it matter if it's going to be machine polished.
Why didn't they start with the roof first? 🤔
....or use a wheel brush for the alloys? Better than that pathetic little brush 😊
And be very careful what product you use to clean your pedals. Some can leave a residue and you don't want slippery pedals!
Can't believe top gear went from James Jeremy Richard to this like if I went into a coma in 2010 n I woke up n they showed this as top gear I'd kill me self 😂

What kind of cleaner did they use for the interior? Seemed like they sprayed it with just one type for everything, using brushes and pressurized air to finish it up
How to add a lot of value to a car in 8 hours
16 hours in reality, this would be very expensive to get done..their labour alone would be 50 each an hour min.

You need a 1” polisher and pad and you’ll get under those door handles forget the rupes Ibrid nano and go straight for the flex option it will last more than 10 minutes before it breaks unlike the Ibrid nano

My '91 FIAT Uno would greatly benefit from a treatment like this, but it would likely cost 4 times what the car is worth :)
I had a 1990 Lexus LS400, not as dirty as this BMW, but it took me about 3 months to clean entirely took look brand new, 8 hours wouldnt be enough to do anything for me.
Without the deadline.. This car would be a gem
