Fishing from the pier, I dive into whether this fish is trash or delicious. Many fish are considered "trash" for various reasons, but in my opinion most of them have value. Join me for a few days fishing from this Florida pier for giant bluefish, jacks, cobia, and kingfish. Pier fishing in Florida can present many awesome opportunities, and this migration doesn't happen very often.

As you and Vic are the reason why I'm taking this tuna trip with Tillman next month, one thing I'm fearing, is that that arm lick up, as it's happened several times fishing off Deerfield on those deep drops with no electrics, I was going to hydrate with lots of gatorade. As a former military guy, what your suggestion was for the Protekt, I'm going to add these to my gatorade to curb those debilitating arm cramps. Thanks for the discount code. Power to the jungle juice

@@ArunasPauliukonis in my opinion no need to add them to Gatorade, I had 2 of the hydration packets mixed with water plus 2-3 more waters throughout the day and I was fine. Those were also colder days so I wasn’t sweating too much

Totally hear you @@ArunasPauliukonis . With these types of trips, you're probably waking up super early in the morning -- when you're at your most dehydrated. First thing when you wake up, drink 32oz of water with a Protekt HYDRATION added to your water. Before your morning coffee or any caffeine. Experts agree this is one of the most powerful things you do every day. Throughout the day, drink water often. We're talking large 26oz or 32oz YETI bottle 8 times throughout the day. Especially in the heat of the day. That would even be a great time to add another HYDRATION to your water -- between noon and 2pm most likely.
Pick up some quality UPF layers to keep the sun off you a bit to avoid overheating. Overheating causes you to dehydrate more quickly. Avoid sugar (gatorade) and too much alcohol. We're not saying don't have some beers with the boys. Just that mixing some water in and maybe an extra HYDRATION will help stave of dehydration and cramping.
Please let us know if we can be of additional help! We completely stand behind our products. If you follow our recommendation and cramp during your trip, please contact us for a full refund.

Noooo. You didn't keep the cheeks. The best part of Big Blues (12lb+) is the cheek meat between the gill plate and the eye. Mild, white meat in the cheeks.
Used to catch 12-20 pounders blitzing the surf on Hatteras Island in NC regularly late '80s thru the mid '90s. Amazing seeing them chasing schools of Speckled Trout into the wash on the beach. I once dip netted a 7-8lb Speck between my feet. One big bite out of it...

So glad I'm a surf fishing guy. Don't know how ANYONE can fish like that, lol. Although, catching the Yellow Eye Devils are always fun. Very oily fish when larger than 4-5lbs, great for smoking and fish dip. If you want to bake or broil, try soaking in butter milk or whole milk for a few hours prior to the oven. Will cut down on the oily texture of the larger fillets. Smart move on not incorporating the belly meat. Belly meat on blues is not palatable. Also, good call on the mayo. As oily as mayo is, for some reason it negates the oil of the meat. Mom used to do that when I brought home blue fish when I was a kid.
As for the truck issue... Maybe someone tried to clone your key fob in the parking lot. The truck recognized it was not the correct codes being sent to it and sent itself in shutdown mode. After a while it woke and recognized your correct coded fob. Kind of like your I-phone locking you out for 5 minutes when you enter the wrong password.

My simple favorite recipe for Kingfish and Bluefish is, first lay out a big enough sheet of foil to completely wrap your filet in a package, thinly slice bell pepper and onions add salt ground pepper, and garlic powder to the filet, add a dollop of Mayo and smear a light coating over the fillet, place vegetable slices to the foil, place fish on top and wrap the foil tight in a sealed package flip vegetable side up so it is on top bake at 400 or put on moderate heated grill until done. The Mayo seems to kill that strong flavor of oily stronger fish, I ate a lot of Mackeral and Bluefish growing up in Pompano, it`s an old recipe. Thanks for the memories, some of the best days of my life fishing the piers and jetties of the East Coast. Oh and a fresh squeeze of lemon on the fish after cooking to personal taste.

If you're looking for lures that cast far, and have the presentation of the gt ice cream you were talking about, look into a jig stick and some surface irons. Some of the best include kicker 25l, salas 7x, tady 45, starman 112, jri stinger, jri-dw1, and the jri-4. They're generally used for yellowtail and tuna in Southern California, but after explaining what you wanted out of your lure I believe these will fit that perfectly.

Nice Blues! Cool to see them in south FL. I'm from the northeast and we get them all the time. A great recipe is to completely coat the meat in mayonnaise then sprinkle with salt/pepper, and taragon then throw lemon slices on and bake it. The mayonnaise will bake off and remove a good amount of the oil so it is a much better experience haha. Nice lunkers man!

Cloves are the dried flower buds from a Myrtle Tree. It's an evergreen that is related to Eucalyptus, Allspice and Rum Tree. Originally from Indonesia and other spots in southeast Asia.
Btw. Try using bluefish in your chowder. The strong flavor is actually complemented by the cream, quahogs and rendered pork belly. Most importantly, you need to bleed that fish while it's alive right at the dock. Slit the gills and the tail right away. Since they're still flipping around, they push all the blood out of the arteries on both sides.

    1. Season with Everglades fish and chicken after cutting into small fillets. Batter with medium hot chicken breader and lightly fry. Put in the fridge overnight. The next day, pull all apart, mix in Dukes mayo, sweet pickles diced, some sugar and salt and pepper. Tastes like chicken salad the 1st day. Second day it will taste more of the fish flavor.

Bluefish have actually been pretty scarce for about 20 years in the mid atlantic. From the 60's to the 90s they were king of the ocean. Partyboats would bring in thousands every day. The surf fall blitzes would run September till Thanksgiving. All your arms could handle. I haven't seen a blitz on the beach for at least 20 years in New Jersey. Partyboats haven't bothered fishing for them for about the same amount of time. There have been signs lately though that they may be starting a coming back.

I've been subbed to you for years but never really watched you. This video was fantastic. Filmed and put together very well. Many things I agree with you on and some I disagree with you on. Never been to Florida, hell never been further south on the east coast than Hatteras NC. We either tossed blues back or used them for bait(very good bait), but we did an inshore charter one time and caught blues and told the captain just to toss em back and he was dumbfounded. We said how we'd freeze them and take them home and they were awful eating. He told us to take them back to the rental and eat them within the next three days and your mind will be blown. He was right, we cooked them up that night or the next night and they were phenomenal. They were average blues, not monsters like in your video. They probably went 10-18 inches. I don't think I'd keep one over 22-24 inches. But I've never even caught one that big lol so who knows.
I'm a believer in throw the little fish and big fish back. Let the small fish grow and let the big fish breed. Take what you need from the mid range fish. In virtually every fish and even animal, you're going to get a better quality meat from smaller and younger specimens unless their meat is fatty. If you harvest too much from the small range than that can endanger the species, at least if everyone does the same.
Over the years I also learned about properly bleeding and icing fish and realistically all meat. That grows ever more important with larger fish. I had a 24 inch channel cat once and it was pretty much inedible due to tasting so bad. Nearly a decade later they were draining that lake for a dam replacement so I fished it hard and got a few 28 inch channel catfish. I figured it would be a disaster but I didn't want to waste the fish and let them rot on the bottom of a dry muddy lake. I took what I learned and bled them, iced them immediately and took them home. I cut off any yellow or red in the fillets which was fat and bloodline. That was some of the best fish I've ever eaten.
Also you took a shot at pompano saying they are overrated. How dare you?? lol. They are absolutely fantastic table fare. The only issue I encountered is they also have a massive bloodline that becomes even more pronounced that they grow.

      @RyanMorie  Před 4 měsíci

Here in NC when we get the big blues in I like to cook them like I do stripers, which is deep fried chucks. Cut them into 2x2 chunks and deep fry them in a hot hot oil. I feel like the hot cooking oil displaces the fish oils and takes away some of that oil fishy flavor. However we just fry the smaller ones with your favorite seafood breader mix, ours happens to be a Cajun breader. All personal preference obviously but bulefish in my opinion is not a junk fish.

Great video my guy. What I’ve usually seen with the situation with your truck is bad ground connection. With all the new electronics in vehicles now it could be any number of things. Can’t wait to see the blues as they move back north through canaveral. Keep up the great work.

First thing I would try for your truck is the key fob battery. Your fob may not be indicating it is at your truck sometimes.

Actually it didn't have a "gamey" flavor. We used to do that with mackerel back in the day, but I've changed my mind on it. I think proper icing and eating fresh is the "cure all"

They love to run under the pier and break u off. 😂😂 I enjoy the fight, so I try not to horse them all the way in. Smaller reel, lots of patience. By the time they get close they’re fone.

In Australia we call "Bluefish" "Tailor". They are popular and highly sought after table fish, not "trash fish" at all. You just need to bleed them as soon as you get them to get a cleaner taste.
If they aren't bled they have an unpleasant flavour. It's extremely bizarre to me that anyone would label them "trash fish".

G'Day Mate, we call them tailor in southern Australia. they are fantastic hot smoked, grilled or with a curry. we get them much smaller in size.

    Dude. Your key fob
Battery is likely dying. Happened to my 2014 f150 (I had to get towed bc mine died an hour from my house). My other key worked fine, and ford replaced the battery inside the key so the original one went right back to working. Good luck!

  • @FishingTinkerman

You may have a bad connection with the wires that connect the security system to the battery. My wife had an issue very similar to that and I had to take the eyelet connector off because, whoever put it on the first time didn't strip the wires enough, so I cut their connection off restriped the wire, and added my own eyelet wire connector, and have not had a problem with it since, and that's been over 2yrs now.

The Bluefish - known as Elf or Shad in South Africa is considered a great eating fish by fish connoisseurs. But not like you cooked it. Best for me, and I’ve tried many recipes, is fillet and leave skin on.
    1. Salt with med course salt and wind dry for a few hrs - draws moisture out
    2. Then cut into portions and pan fry in butter.
I must add that our min size is 30cm, and a good one weighs around 7lb, but the odd ones come out up to 20lb.

Also, my brother had the same thing happen with his 2019 Explorer. Went to Walmart to get groceries, came back out 30 minutes later to 0% power to anything. Spent 10 minutes tinkering around then the lights came on. He bought a new battery just to be safe but I highly doubt it was the battery. Never got an answer from the dealership as to what it actually was

My go to way to cook bluefish is the cedar plank method. Soak the fish overnight in Italian dressing. Put them on a plank then grill for 20 minutes. Allow to cool, remove the fish and eat the plank instead 😂
