I`ve been on both cruise lines and both of them are really good but about the languages, it is absolutely true that you might have to deal with a lot of announcements in different languages on MCS ships. However, I think that is a part of the experience of cruising, people from all over go on cruises to see the world in a much relaxing and comfortable way. On MSC ships the staff speaks at least 3 or 4 languages to try to make guests, from all nationalities, feel more comfortable, especially guests who don't speak English. So the staff is very inclusive and patient. I personally think that should be a plus because you don't get that service too often on other cruising companies. And the ships, especially the new ones are absolutely beautiful. Love the Swarovski stairs on all of their ships, perfect Instagreamable spot!

Hi Guys, Love your Videos! We sailed NCL and MSC this year and we found NCL was lacking in the food department.Perhaps it was just the ship we sailed. Steaks were dry and over cooked. sides were flavorless and wait staff were VERY SLOW and often unfriendly! We ate in MDR and Buffet on both ships. Yes there were more offerings in the NCL buffet but it was a mad house trying to get food. MSC buffet did have specials everyday from pasta to sandwiches. The Pizza is superb! There service was exceptional. The wait staff were very accommodating and so friendly. Remembering our favorites and often surprising us with extras.
What we didn't like was there are not very many quick service venues on the MSC ~ no sea side venues on the promenade. We enjoy'd the shows on MSC . And boy do they know how to throw a party. Yes some start late but they had a party going at all hours. We enjoy'd the shows on NCL but the ship we were on did not have the big Broadway productions. All in all we like MSC the best. We will be sailing on Celebrity this year. Will be very fun to compare.

It definitely has to be the ship you went on because I’ve been on plenty of Norwegian cruise ships with lots of good food and loads of nice staff. Was it an old or newer ship you were on?

Hi guys we had our first cruise ever last October on MSC Divina and we loved it. I have to disagree on the entertainment front as the shows we saw were hi energy, very visual , great dancers and we went to see everyone! The food was good, ok not outstanding but it was good. I was stunned by the beauty of the ship . So much so we have booked on MSC Fantasia in November. We will be sailing with Norwegian on the Epic this October and we will be having our honeymoon on Celebrity Edge april 2021 . So by that time we will be able to compare properly. But for anyone going or planning to go on MSC do it! The value for money is incredible and TBH I hardly noticed the announcements, and we really got the cruise addict bug!

We are posting this while on the MSC Meraviglia, so you can guess what we think! ;)
All your criticism of them is valid, but because MSC is so much cheaper we can afford the Yacht Club and that makes a world of difference on service and amenities (unlimited mini bar, free room service, better food) so that swings the balance in MSC's favor for us. And yes the ship are BEAUTIFUL.
We were on the Escape a couple years ago and had tons of fun but overall MSC has won us over.

Debora Ribble MSC really has a variety of everything, every day they would have a special section and will prepare food that is native to the country you sailed into. Other than that you have many more options to pick from , since the market place is open for 20 hours a day!!!

Meraviglia is beautiful. The food sucks on MSC. I sent food back each night on MSC. I have never done that on a cruise ship in 30 years of cruising. Best meal we got that week was at Cracker Barrel after we got off the ship. It was very disapointing. I talked to two couples in the Yacht Club who also hated the food. So much for a Michelin chef. They must have hired Michelin tire guy by mistake. I am sticking wit RCL and Celebrity. I know they have good food.

Regarding your review MSC v NCL I felt that your comments were absolutely spot on along with your points.
Being bias I will go along with MSC everytime, not being a big fan of NCL but one thing that I will agree with you regarding the guests on-board MSC they can be quite demanding and the food and customer service does need more attention but at the end of day it's still going to be MSC for me, far better ships all-round as go karting is something that will make me choose NCL.

  • @lukepare71
    @lukepare71 Před 4 lety +3

Having traveled on both MSC and NCL I would have to say the MSC is a much better cruise line. It is true that the languages are done in usually at least 2-3 languages, but it is not as agrevating as people make it sound.... they don't happen that often... Entertainment is different as they are geared towards none speaking entertainment as there is a lot more different cultures on the MSC ships, but the Shows are very excellent and amazing.... NCL is just the starndard American entertainment and not as diverse. MSC service is 1000 times better at all times than NCL... so I would vote that MSC is by far the better cruise ships.

Thanks for the input on MSC in Europe. I have been on the MSC Divina from Miami to the Caribbean and thoroughly enjoyed the Italian feel throughout the ship. It was a different feel from Carnival and Royal. Recently did the Baltic’s on NCL Getaway and thought the ship lacked a lot of beautiful decor but food was good. I thought about doing MSC for a Mediterranean cruise and now will think twice about it, not sure if I can deal with the 5 different languages. But MSC does have beautiful ships.

I have only cruised with MSC. Simply because they have a good selection of cruises in Northern Europe. Aaaaand.......the prices seems to fit my wallet a bit better. I would love to try NCL or RCCL, but I would prefer 2 cruises on MSC instead of 1 on one of those. (for now).
I completely agree that the food could be better. I think there is a lot of great food onboard though and a big selection of everything. There will always be something to your liking.
I have had one experience with bad service......but thats one out of 1000. The staff that I have been dealing with have been a delight.
So even for the somewhat bland food, I stille love cruising with MSC. Specially the newer ships.

We were on the MSC Seaside for two weeks in June, and we're boarding the Meraviglia on Sunday for a week (booked before we had our Seaside trip). Never been on Norwegian. I'll definitely agree with most everything you say about MSC.
The Seaside is a gorgeous ship, but sometimes confusingly laid out.
They changed their wi-fi packaging literally half way through our summer cruise, meaning I couldn't top up my data when we ran out, and they wanted to charge me for a whole new plan. That annoyed me. It's basic customer service to grandfather people in on the old plan if you change something midway through their vacation.
The 'GPS' bracelets are a neat way to track down your family or friends on the ship, if you are traveling as a group.
The shows are ok, but get very same-ish over a two week cruise. Only so many times you can watch variations of the same dance/acrobatic routines. Completely understandable why they opt for language-neutral entertainment, though.
We didn't find the food to be too bad to be honest. Not as good as Royal Caribbean, but better than Carnival. IIRC, my biggest gripe was the buffet opening times. I missed the Windjammer on Independence of the Seas!
The arcade area was poorly managed. I kept thinking the poor dude running it was going to have a nervous breakdown and he couldn't seem to focus on a single customer for more than 5s. As a result of trying to service everyone at the same time, and not leave people waiting, it all became a confusing mess and no-one received good service. Opening hours on the arcade were too short also, which contributed to the chaos.
The Aurea Spa was a high point on the Seaside - it was absolutely amazing and the services provided (or at least those we received) were top-notch. Like any cruise ship spa, however, be prepared to hand over your first born child as payment.
Would I book MSC again? Ehhhhh, maybe. Hard to argue with the value for money. But given the choice, I'd go RCI. Or maybe try Norwegian, after watching this video!

I know I hate the multi language announcements at work (altho I do appreciate the necessity) but I think if I carried good ear plugs/noise cancelling headphones I'd be ok with it on a cruise - once you hear your bit you can tune out (Think how annoying it'd be if your language was last!).
Also, sometimes with the announcements at work, I try to use it as an opportunity to work out other languages (if I have time, which isn't often)

We were really disappointed with the overall food on the NCL Star this past November on a European cruise. Lots of variety, but everything was bit off in the main dining rooms and buffet. The hibachi was our favorite out of everything. The steakhouse was lousy as well and the Asian fashion restaurant. The pub was terrible. They definitely took a turn with the food for the worse. Now on the newest ships it could definitely be better than what we experienced.

You forget "Customer Service", at least as the phone concerns... MSC, your on hold for 40 minutes, and once you get through, the help is underwhelming (hard to get price adjustments and upgrades)... NCL, super fast to get through, super friendly, and more than willing to give price adjustments and upgrade options... on the ships however, I think the service is better on MSC... far more European, than NCL American attitudes...
