I'm now completely sold on ceramic bezels…..completely sold! But man, that was a disturbing video to watch!
Hahaha
Right? It made me cringe
@@royward1952 what wasn't mentioned is their well they crack alot easier from a direct hit... other than that their awesome.. i recommend lcbi sorry. lol
Meanwhile, Long Island Doors will be introducing a range of diamond door strike plates to prevent damage from watches...
LOLOL
When you accidenttaly bump into a door 70x times
Right, with force!
That got to be almost half a month of average use or so.
Been wearing a Carrera daily for 19 years and 70 times is probably an understatement!
Thats one very drunken night lol
I recently scratched a Casio vintage that I got for less than 50$ and I’m still upset about it...this video is a torture:))))
LOL
Watches are attracted to brick walls too.
Right, but I don't have one locally :)
CamberwellCarrot That's the truth!
Scratched mine on the corner of a ceramic tiled wall...
"I' sorry. I love ya. But I gotta do it." THATS a true watch enthusiast talkin :-)
Very true.
Thanks for taking one for the team. This demonstration was actually very helpful to me. I have a ceramic Sub, but wasn't sure just how tough it was. I thought it might just be marginally better, but this shows me otherwise.
It's way better.
Hi Marc, that was great to see how resilient the ceramic was. What I'd really like to see is how ceramic bezels stands up to impacts. Nobody shows that. Thanks for doing these informative videos.
I own a full ceramic El Primero 21 and I’m always anxious of it being able to crack vs a steel watch just scuffing. I know it would take a TREMENDOUS amount of force, but it’s always the elephant in the room. Would love to see a video of someone taking a sledge hammer to a full ceramic case.
Yeah, I've got that nihilistic urge as well 😂
Wow, that was an amazing video. Thanks for the education Mark. Didn't know how tough ceramic was until now.
Indeed!
You always put out the best videos man!!! Really love your content 😊
Thanks!
Dude, watching that video seriously took time off my life... my heart can’t handle watching this. Bless you for your sacrifice for science!!!
Thank you!
Finally got to the last video, now I'm up to date with them! Found your channel just recently and watched all the watch & learn episodes (ok, I did skip two) in a few weeks. Keep up the good work!
Over two years later and I’m watching all his videos in order and finally made it to this one. Been knocking a bunch out while quarantining with Covid!
Kudos for testing it out. You never see videos like this. 👍
You know I always wondered that. Planning to get one in the future from my SKX. Thank you for this video, always learn something interesting watching your videos.
Thanks for checking it out.
Yes, excellent demonstration!
YES!!!
Yes
That’s science! One of the better videos I’ve seen. Thank you!
Thanks for actually scratching for our knowledge.. I had no idea before... Love your watch and learns
LOL, thank you
This was really helpful! Thanks Mark!
Wife was looking over my shoulder while watching this episode... “What, what’s he doing. You better not try that”. I had to explain that you did it for the good of the village 👍
LOLOL. She's got the right idea.
I honestly couldn't bring myself to do this to any watch!!! Great video though. I often wondered how hard these ceramic bezels are.........now I know!! Thankyou for the demo!
You are welcome.
That hurt me to watch! Pretty amazing Marc! Now I know why expensive watches have ceramic bezels! 😃
Yes!
“No SKXs were harmed in the making of this film” 😆
Great video, a win for the Ceramic Bezel :) . It's up there with a video I watched where someone ran over a G-shock with a Tank as they do with the Victorinox. The G-shock was smashed into tiny little bits...so funny
Thanks.
They should make this man a statue! Nobody except Mark does these informative videos! He is beyond an online watch seller! God bless you!
Thanks!!!
Got the bezel insert, looks great on my hybrid 7548/6309! I will see how well it holds up since I wear it on my stroke side and tends to bump it like I did metal insert.
Thx for the video!now I know how good it is
Ok so when I buy my first dive watch I will go for the ceramic one. Thanks for the demonstration!
Welcome!
Great demonstration Marc, thanks!
You are welcome.
Quite stark. Impressive. Interesting, as was your Hardlex vs. sapphire test. Well done. Thanks.
Thank you!
Great presentation. Thank you for doing this. :)
haha that was an awesome demo! thanks for showing the value of sapphire and ceramic
You are welcome.
Man, when you get ceramic inserts for the Mako I am for SURE buying one and installing it on my USA II.
Excellent video, Mark!
Thank you!
Nice demonstration, Marc. Now I know I want a ceramic bezel if I can still afford it. Thanks!
That's the idea!
Painful to watch, pun intended. Was wincing the whole time. Grateful for your experiment and so pleased it wasn’t my watch... you mad man
Thank you.
Good showcase Mark, good way to market.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed.
With this and a sapphire crystal your watch should always look new! How cool.
Hello Marc.
Now that I do belive it's as hard as I have heard it is.
Scratching your own ceramic bezel in confidence just tops it off.
Indeed it is!
Great video Mark even if it was difficult to watch! pardon the pun, would definitely go ceramic now 👍
Thanks Doc
Very informative but also painful to watch. My goodness Mark! But thank for taking the time to show the difference!
I love all the scratches on my daily beater (citizens promaster) shows age and durability. When I order my custom watch from you, I'll order it with a ceramic bezel 👍👍
Thank you!
If you want your watch to stay looking new to ceramic bezel with sapphire crystal is definitely way to go.
However, the vintage aesthetic of domed acrylic and faded paint on aluminum can be a sight to behold.
I love my newer watches, but I love the older ones just as much if not more.
Nice WnL Marc. Good gawd the awl usage was painful, but a nice lesson. Thank you. Wow!
You are welcome!
OMG your a Madman! Maybe not so much with the junk SKX but with your own... GULP!
Agree with a comment on here about the odd scratch adding a bit of character think I would like a a bashed up one and a squeaky clean new looking one. Excellent demo Marc.
Thanks Mark.
Great demonstration, it was a little painful watching but you did it to prove a point. Well Done!!
Thank you
Thought ceramic was just another simple material which could get scratched but this really changed my thoughts. 👍
Nope!
Amazing that a bezel with the sheen, depth and beauty of that ceramic is also so tough!
Sure is.
Went to your store Marc, couldn’t find the ceramic inserts! (Glad you’ll be stocking them)
Soon!
Long Island Watch Hopefully PO style will be in da house!
A fine example of “you get what you pay for”🤔👍
Thanks for sharing 🍻
Exactly
Hello Mark I love your videos and am writing this comment for more engagement and growth
Oh the humanity.....lol. Great video demonstrating the advantage to ceramic bezels :)
Thanks EWG
Impressive, very impressive!!
Thank you!
Great video
Thanks!
Great video and demonstration! Can regular sand at the beach scratch the ceramic bezel?
I reckon all the scuffs on the first one gives it some character. Like it's been through a few adventures with you.
Some how I wanted to jump through the screen and snatch those watches. This video is was so painful to watch but I learned something as I am a newly obsessed "watch guy"
Made my knees weak man 😬 hahaha impressive demonstration though. Great video as always
Thank you.
My heart stopped beating for a minute LOL!!!
I was most interested in seeing if the hardlex crystal was going to get scratched or not from the metal plate. Too bad (or good) it was changed to a sapphire.
The ceramic scratch test was pretty cool as well. Didn't realize it was that tough!
Yeah, super tough!
Is that clock on the wall a spring drive?
Hello, i want to ask... There is a test to distinguish between Stainless Steel, Aluminium and Ceramic?. Some bezels appears to be the same
What size ceramic bezel would I need for my mako XL please? Looking to replace the aluminium one. Thanks
I had a ceramic bezel with a lume pip at 12 which stood proud (like that one). Let's just say after a few weeks, I have a bezel with a hole in it now at 12.
Buy a gshock 😊
One of my favorite things about my Islander is I can brush the steel and I can pretty much use anything to wipe the bezel/crystal and not give a damn. I will never wipe mineral or aluminum bezels on my shirt or pants 😂 love the Islander series, about to buy ten more to fill up a single box!
Good video
I know that you had said you do not want to scratch in the white painted engraved numbers on the bezel. But if they got hit by something would the paint scratch easily? Thanks
Is the ceramic bezel insert available for the SNZF17?
Amazing demo. If I purchase a ceramic bezel, I’ll also have to buy an awl or provide my own door strike plate. Not fair, unless LIW offers a package deal with these items.
LOL, thank you.
I did not count how many strikes on the doorframe you gave at your watch...for mine, ONE was enough 😄😄😄 hahaha. Anyway, thank you for showing how to deal with ist. 👍👍👍
Thanks!
but can u get one for the Sbga229??
Are there any ceramic inserts for the SKX031/033 sized watches? I can find them for the 007 sized, but not for my 031 / 726-0040.
where can i get the ceremic bezel? Thanks.
amazing
incredible.
You mentioned you're changing watches (bezels etc), just for yrself, or for others, too? May I know, pls. I own a Seiko 5 Sports Monster 1st generation SRP481K1, like to change the bezel into a 12h GMT one. Watching yr videos with great interest.
Hi there, does someone know, if the bezel for SKX007 is compatible with SNE435P1?
I’ve got a small question... i’ve just bought a ceramic bezel for a watch and it’s like 0,1mm too large... what can i use to trim it?
Grinding wheel.
Any ceramic upgrades for the SBDC051
and their brothern models?
Will it break and crack.?
How can I be in the loop when the customising watches options becoming available?
No, I'll be keeping it a secret. :)
Hi Marc,
Do you sell the ceramic inserts just for some Seiko watches? I wonder if you have an insert that could be used in a Glycine Combat?
Correct, only Seiko at this point.
Made me wince. For info, you can break a car window by throwing just a small piece of ceramic (such as a spark plug) at it. British soldiers used it regularly in Northern Ireland.
The old spark plug trick, works like a champ.
@@islandwatch I saw what you did there. :)
Do you sell inserts for spb079?
I like your wall clock
Me too, thanks!
Beautiful skx there Mark
Thank you.
Lol, never in my life have I walked into a door strike plate.
Does someone know where can I find a ceramic Pepsi bezel for a turtle? Cheers
Do you have a bezel that works with a Seiko Samurai?
Hey Mark
Just recently I noticed some marks on my Steinhart Ocean One ceramic bezel, but I'm not sure what they are. I thought it was finger oils until I noticed they wouldn't rub off. And I have no idea what could've scratched it if they are scratches or what I can do about it. Any insight?
If they are scratches, has to be something as hard or harder. Diamond, sapphire, etc.
@@islandwatch any idea how i could wipe the marks off then if they aren't scratches?
My SKX007 is over a year old now, have abosed it quite often but the bezel insert is still scratch free!
Cool!
I had faith the ceramic bezel could handle it,,I got a 47mm pro diver with ceramic bezel that has takin a beating for more than 10yrs. and still looks great ,the flame fusion crystal still looks great as well
Sounds awesome!
I've been afraid to wear mine at work because of this. The cargo bays on my work truck are all aluminium and bump my wrists all the time. My g shock has the scars to prove it. Will a sapphire crystal hold up as well as the ceramic bezel?
Yes!
While you were beating that watch on the door, my wife asked "what the hell is Marc doing?" She recognized your voice from the intro, and processed the noise while playing a game on her laptop.
Will these watches be for sale in the scratch and dent section?!
Nervous about buying from now .
LOL, nope.
Please do more metal/material hardening tests.
Comparing all the different watch metals on a scratch test. Let is know if a manufacturer are easily able to fix scratches and dents of your metals like ceramic, ceratanium etc.
Thanks for the idea.
What about a full ceramic watch? How worried do you have to be about impacts ?
Holy crap! It hurts to see this! I'm so careful mad worry even with my cheap watches.... I'm getting a ceramic insert and start with my first mod with my skx007!
any watch and learn on watches >42mm case diameter?
Do you carry ceramic bezels for the RayII's
No, sorry.
