“WOWZA!” Cold Process Soap October 2, 2020
This was soaped at 35% lye liquid, but for sure I will do this at 30-33% next time. This was for a 2lb batch of soap.
Silk and 2 Tbsp. sugar in with the water. Sugar dissolved before adding lye.
Coconut milk deducted from water amount and put in a cup along with 2 Tbsp yogurt and 3% Sodium Lactate, 1Tbsp Maple Syrup, mix all together well and set aside.
Super Fat (although with CP the lye will choose whatever it wishes for super fat ) was 3% Apricot Kernel and I also added my EO’s to this which was, Lavender, Sweet Orange, Grapefruit and Lemongrass.
I added my lye to my oils as soon as the lye was all dissolved.
I chopped up my hard oils first and added the lye to those and melted them all before adding the soft oils (and 1 tsp Kaolin Clay). Then I added the milk mixture, and then the EO’s mixture. Stick blend to light trace, divided the batter and added my gratings of Pear’s Transparent soap and designed accordingly.
Oils/Fats:
15% Castor Oil
11% Coconut Oil 76 degree
23% Olive Oil
29% Palm Oil
22% Beef Tallow
This formula is low drying and high conditioning.
Enjoy!
I don't know how I missed this video, as I watch them all. Beautiful soap.
I hope you come back and soap some more, we miss you!
Hi Valerie sorry that we don't see you anymore. Hope you are well and safe...
hello Bronwyn reed and thank you so kindly for thinking of me....yes, doing fine, but my hubby has health issues and we've been learning how to manage "blindness" and other's as well...i do hope to get back to making a couple of videos, but time never seems to cooperate lately. thank you again
Beautiful soap as usual Valerie. Blessings to you 🥰
It came out beautifully, great Halloween colors and nice fragrance blend.
Hello! thank you ever so much!
Love and hugs, friend! So happy to see a new soap video from you! Beautiful job, and I love the base color!
hello there friend, hope you caught me thanking you at the end, meant to do that at the beginning, and i was so nervous about this video, just getting back into it i guess and it being CP! lol, anyway, thank you so much and big hugs....yes, that base color is always lovely with the blood orange, and and other pink grapefruit color as well...and adding TD seems to bring it out! or so i've found
@@shalebrookhandcraftedsoap7907 you are so welcome! I truly am enjoying CP for a little change and I am so glad that you are dabbling, too. Thanks so much for the mention, and thank you for always being an inspiration to me, too! ❤️
God bless you Valerie!!!! Looks amazing as always. ❤️
you are so kind Bek RatFi, thank you so very much! big hugs
Looks great!!! Glad to see you and your video's!!!
hey Ellen! and thank you ever so much! big hugs to you!
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL Soap. Thank you for sharing. I love the simplicity, you are a excellent teacher of this craft. I have followed you for a couple of years. Your peaceful deliverance of information encouraged me during those years to keep going through my learning curve.
hey there Omega Hashaway! how very kind, thoughtful and encouraging "you" are! touches my heart to know that anything i've shared has been of help or encouragement to "you"! Thank you ever so humbly and big hugs across the miles! stay safe and enjoy the adventure of soap making...i'm still learning all the time!
Because of you I tried making soap your a great teacher thank for giving of yourself
God bless you
dear Vera, that is such a blessing to me, i'm so very happy to know these videos have been of help and/or encouragement! big hugs
Awwww, love the colors, love the pour pattern and love the cut! Well, now I have mastered CP and horribly failed at my one and only attempt at HP, you have inspired me to travel outside my comfort zone and try again. So thank you again, to both of my favorites, Valerie Holden & Valerie Mosher. Your inspiration has trickled down! 😍❤️❤️
sweet kind Donna Nail! you are ever so encouraging and just a joy! thank you so very much
Thank you so much , beautiful soap, now I want to try that EO blend
Hey! thank you so very much clivia ibanez! Yes, indeed try it out, just super lovely!
Shalebrook Handcrafted Soap I made it yesterday was looking for you and. Alerte on IG but didn’t find and I don’t have a channel. I used a blend of sweet orange, lavender, lemon and litsea cubeba, it’s lovely. I made a similar combination before but was only lavender and lemongrass, this one is the best
Thank you both of you
@@cliviascreations you are so very welcome and truly glad you enjoy it! it will be a favorite of mine.
Thanks, love watching you.
Nice to see you again, Valerie! Great job! Your husband has the steadiest hand I've seen in a while :). I'm just making lots of hot process soaps you've inspired me to do. I made some ACV hot process soap from Elly's Everyday Soapmaking Channel, hot process...hoping it's better than my own version without ACV. Stay safe, sending you hugs and well wishes. I'm happy to see smiling faces during these crazy times.
Hello Veta B and so glad to see you and do pray that you and your family are all well and safe. Love ACV in soaps, but i dont use it in all my soaps, use it at higher percentage in my Shampoo bars, and sometimes i'll use it to mix my sugars / honey with....there is sooooooo much to use and experiment with eh? So glad you are still enjoying the HP soaping process . Pray you have a very blessed Christmas, big hugs from a far!
Beautiful ! I have not done CP in so long. HP soaper. Your video is inspiring me to try it again. Thank you Valerie. Xooo
dear Ellen, thank you for always being so encouraging, i truly appreciate "you"! Yes, i'm an HP soaper at heart, but Valerie Holdren inspired me to get back into CP, especially where i'm behind, so just getting a lot of soaps done in one day , even though they have to set a bit longer, was worth it, and for sure, i learned along the way too, although it is not my forte by anymeans, lol, i feel that i can manipulate HP way better....but i can see where both mediums have their pros cons, although HP for me has more pros?! lol big hugs
Thank you, Madam, for your wonderful work

Do you make videos anymore?
Hi, good to see you again Valerie! This cp soap turned out pretty, I love the top! Miss your videos, hope you'll start doing more, and you did great making the soap. I'm a new soaper and I get nervous, I just done my first in the pot swirl, and didn't use enough white base and I think it went into more one color, but ill find out tomorrow when I cut it lol. Stay safe. 💞
dear Tree! thank you for being so kind and loving! big hugs! You know soaping is always an adventure for sure, and a lot of my designs dont turn out, and i "just" had an ITPS that didnt work for me either! Main thing is that the soap is good for the skin! much love in our precious Lord!
I hope I can still ask a question.
Have you ever made soap with Moroccan Argan butter? If so do I just melt it with my oils Also in the soa calc can I just choose argon oil?
Thank you so much I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and your new year will be filled with joy
Hope you are well. Not seen much of you on Facebook lately or here either.
hello dear NashipurSinha - thank you so kindly for your thoughtfulness, i appreciate "you" -- because of my husbands's health issues and because he is legally blind now, i am needed so much more around home to do things that he would normally have done, and so i closed my Soaping business and left a few groups....although i make specialty orders for customers now and then, and God willing i'll always make soap for my self and family as i love my soap, but for now i cannot keep up with the business and looking after my husband and home...although i do hope to make a video now and then and i'm still answering messages about soaping etc, when i'm able..it all became so very overwhelming for 1 person to do....there is a lot more i would love to do at home with other crafts and my grandchildren too,....thank you again , big hugs
I miss you so much!! So sorry for your husband but totally understand! As we get older so do our bodies and just the way life goes. Take care of yourself and your family because that's what is important. God bless!
@@shalebrookhandcraftedsoap7907 I missed your reply.
So sorry that your husband and you and your family is facing this crisis. Your generosity in sharing your knowledge will come back to bless you and your family.
We from the soaping world are praying for you and hope that you get the support so that you can get back to what you love - making soaps, making videos and sharing your knowledge. Even if you can't, you are leaving behind a treasure trove of knowledge that people will always learn from.
Lots of hugs and good wishes.

I'm sorry to here this I'm praying for you and your husband. I miss your videos
thank you ever so humbly Joan, i appreciate "you"! God willing i'll be making a video now and then and still experimenting and of course making soap for us, big hugs
I miss you on youtube. I am praying for your family.
Hello Joan and thank you so much, i truly appreciate that...we are doing well and adjusting and hopefully i'll get a couple videos up in the next months, God wiling!
Hi. I looked up your Facebook because I couldn't see you on youtube. I hope my actions don't hurt your feelings.
I found out about your family's health and soap business problems through Facebook.
I will pray for you and your family's health.
Valerie's soap video warms my heart.
Is it because of the warmth of Crockpot? (Just kidding.)
I'll keep waiting, so feel free to come back.
Hello! and thank you ever so much for those lovely words of care and concern! What a blessing to me for sure....things are going quite well, and we are adjusting to the new normal and our Lord is keeping us along this journey, we are so blessed in so many ways and we are so grateful to Him for everything! I do hope to make some more videos, well, when things settle down some more, God willing of course...and i'm still making soap for us and our family and some special orders too! We do appreciate your prayers, that is very supportive as well and may our Lord bless you for those. That was sooo funny about the crock pot, i had a good chuckle, thank you and big hugs from a far!
Hi Valerie, we miss you and your beautiful soaps on CZcams❤️
I’ll try to make this EO blend for my next soap. I put this recipe through the soap calc looks really good and conditioning which I couldn’t make yet, do you remember if this soap also gave you good lather? Thank you!😊 Elizabeth
Hello Elizabeth and my sincere apologies for not answering sooner --- this soap does lather well and gets it's boost from Coconut milk too --- you could change the numbers a bit on the formula to get more but make sure you put through a soap calculator to get proper lye amount --- you could also add some apple cider vinegar in place of the water as that will boost lather as well - most of my soaps lather super as i love lather, low drying and high conditioning for body soaps , so you could change a formula a bit by upping the CO 1-2%, and lowering the tallow or palm by that amount, you could up the OO by 1-2% and lower the tallow by that amount, but make sure you put through a soap calculator. Thank you for your post and your question.
@@shalebrookhandcraftedsoap7907 thank you so much Valerie, God bless you!😊
Just found your videos and love them all so far! Would you be interested in mentoring me?
Does it matter at what temperature you combine hard fats and liquid oils with this metod? Valerie, glad to see you and your video's.
Hello Zvonka and thank you for stopping by and for the kind words as well. the only way i've done it so far is adding the "hot" lye to the hard oils first and melting them and then adding the soft oils --- and that is why i normally dice/mince all my hard oils first , add the hot lye (as soon as the lye is completely dissolved i add it) to the hard oils, melt them, then add the room temp soft oils --- i've truly not seen a lot of CP "Heat Transfer" videos, but i'm sure they are out there....and as well i'm sure there are different ways to do it as well....have you tried it with all the oils together? i.e. soft and hard, then adding the lye? i'm wondering would the lye react with the soft oils more quickly ? and would the hard oils then melt even? i'm not sure at all.... Have you tried it in that way Zvonka? And, My hard oils as well as my soft oils are all at "room temp" before adding the hot lye, if your oils/butters etc were heated then you would have a high temp cook or partial cook , like an HP soap, therefore i would never do that for this CP method. Great question Zvonka, so glad you brought it up!
@@shalebrookhandcraftedsoap7907 Thanks for the reply. I never made soap with Heat transfer ...yet. I saw it on CZcams at Ophelias Soapery. Maybe I try and do it. Thanks again and have a nice day.
I just noticed you aren't soaping lately - I hope you're just taking a much-needed break!
hello Madeline and thank you ever so much for thinking of me...yes, still soaping, but closed my business do to my hubby's health...he is blind now and we are learning to walk through that the last few years and most recently the total blindness and we are blessed indeed ....do hope to get back to making a couple of videos when time cooperates, but that isnt happening lately...still making soap, and i do it most specifically for family, friends and my repeat customers and along the way some new ones too! as well, i've been doing a little experimenting with botanicals... but God willing i hopefully will always be able to make some soap! thank you again
@@shalebrookhandcraftedsoap7907, thankful yet sorry to see this update. You are strong and can do hard things. God gave you talents some of us pray for. You are gifted, talented, and patient. You have tenacity. Take a deep breath, keep on keeping on!
@@javabeanme you are truly a sweetheart, and i appreciate "you" very much. i am doing quite a bit of soaping these days for my repeat customers and some new ones, and it goes in spurts, as right now there is gardening season/planting season...but i do hope to get some videos up maybe in the next 3 months, God willing. big hugs
Are you OK?
hey Vera Wol -- yes, i'm doing well thank you kindly; i've stepped back from soaping and i've closed my business because of my husbands health issues and his going blind, so im needed so much more...something had to give for sure...God willing i'll always make soap and from time to time i will do video's and i still do special orders, but it depends on how things are...I do appreciate your thoughtfulness, thank you
What can I use instead of beef
Hello Sheela -- thank you for stopping by, when you wish to change fats/oils/butters in a formula, you will always need to put through a Soap Calculator again, as every fat has a different saponification and it may/will require different amounts of lye -- but of course you can exchange the Tallow, for Palm oil, or shea butter etc...but you will have to recalculate.
