    Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
    Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
    Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

    Hello ,yes awesome, I love natural additives as well, I used watermelon juice in my AZ watermelon soap and for some reason the lather is just amazing compared to other additives I used before. Now I made cranberry orange with fresh squeezed orange juice and I can’t wait to comparé the performance
    Thank you for another great video

    Do you have "how to" video on sodium citrate usage? Looking for info on how to incorporate properly.

    How do you know the usage rates for various additives? I know you have mentioned the clay before and the ones mentioned. Is it preference? Like colloidal oats for example

    I've been considering using jojoba beads, currently I just use it in liquid form and add it as a superfat. I've had people ask me what the benefit is, and I'm not sure what to say because I know we're not supposed to tell people soap has any benefit other than getting you clean.

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  Před 3 lety +3

      Yeah it’s such a tough line to walk, for sure. And it is accurate - soap is a rinse off product so technically it doesn’t have any benefits! But jojoba makes a pretty epic lather!

      @@MrsSoapAndClay Yeah it does! I started buying more fun things to add to my soap. I'm enjoying the experimenting :)

    Do you have to use sodium lactate with higher amount of clay?

    Hello, exactly how many additives can be added at one time? Does it matter at what stage? I want to add oat, goat milk, and honey powders (mixed with water) I just wanted to know the best way! Thanks!

      Hi! So I responded to you on insta, but for the peoples that may have the same question - the only thing that really makes a soap fall out of solution is a miscalculation of lye and fats. So if that’s dialed in, you can do any number of additives to soap! Experiment and have fun!

    Hello! New to your video, was looking for some additives that could avoid discoloration on the soap after few days(from orange to brownish yellow I put some Kojic acid on it which I've heard can really change the color of the soap but it's my friend's request-kojic papaya soap .Does citric acid can help achieve vibrant color stays or titanium dioxide? If you have any idea about it, would be great help. Cheers x

      @MrsSoapAndClay  Před rokem +1

      Hey! Loads of issues could cause discoloration, from the scent to the oils. I recommend putting kaolin clay into the batch to minimize the discoloration. Titanium dioxide can help as well.

    At what point would you say to add jojoba beads or pumice in the soap batter?

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey! I like to add exfoliants once a decent trace has been reached. Too thin, and all the scrubby bits fall to the bottom of the bar. Too thick, and it doesn’t mix properly and you’re left with pockets of scrubby in an otherwise normal bar of soap.

    Concerning citric acid, is it okay to use citric acid in a salt bar?

    • @MrsSoapAndClay
      @MrsSoapAndClay  Před rokem

      Hey! Sure, as long as you’re aware of how salt/citric acid consume the lye to adjust accordingly.

    It does not work like that. NaOH and citric acid react in 1,2:2,1 mass ratio.
