    My first handgun I ever got is a blued Taurus 65 .357 magnum with a 3-inch barrel. I paid a whopping $218 for it back in 1992 (I still have it). Mine has a target trigger on it and is butter smooth. I find it's the perfect size: center of gravity is lower so it's more comfortable in the holster, the velocity is closer to 4-inch so hollow points will have a better chance of expanding, and target acquisition is extremely fast... So far, pretty impressed with your review of the Executive. Looks like a winner.

  • @GunSam
    @GunSam Před 2 měsíci +10

    Thanks for the mention. I use the HKS 10 loader, which is a tad too fat but I just drop them before they are in the cylinder too far. I got an Aysesa Tactical leather OWB holster on Amazon for 38 bucks for my 3" LCRx .22 WMR, and it fits the 3" 856 well, just a tad loose over the thumb strap. My 856 appears to be bent left, like the whole frame and or barrel. Shoots very far left.

    • @LionquestFitness
      @LionquestFitness  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That seems to be a problem with Taurus/Rossi revolvers. That was what I was told was wrong with the Rossi that the cylinder locked down on me and would not turn; that the frame was out of spec. Another person from the Taurusarmed.net forum who'd sent a 856 back was told the same thing. Both guns were to be destroyed according to Taurus. I sent mine back for service in December and after numerous calls and e-mails a replacement gun is finally being sent out. Maybe, LOL. I'm not holding my breath.

    Elmer Keith, in his classic book "Six Guns", was rather emphatic that the FBI made a mistake when they adopted a 2 1/2" 357 Magnum, arguing that a minimum of 3" was necessary to achieve enough powder burn to make the round effective with the ammunition available at the time. Presumably this argument extends to hot loaded 38 Specials. I've never understood the fascination with short barrels when it is the butt/grip that is most pronounced and hardest to hide. But I've never understood the popularity of IWB holsters and appendix carry either. I much prefer 4", 5", and 6" barrels and the comfort and easy access provided by OWB carry.

    Taurus Does make a nice looking revolver! My first handgun was an early 856 snub but I sold it for something with a larger barrel that could take 357. I've been through several revolvers since but currently have an S&W 60-15 3" J frame with the same rosewood Pachmayr Grips you've got there. Sure it'll mostly ever shoot 38s but i like the option of 357 for woods and camping.

    People forget some speed loaders are not for pushing rounds in the cylinder but for releasing into cylinder after bullet noses are just inside the cylinder, then gravity does the work, for example my poly 605 357 I don't have problems with rubber grip getting in the way like others have mentioned because I don't push rounds in and force them to go in, it maybe that safariland and others are made for pushing but the basic speed loaders you use gravity because your twisting and releasing where as others you push to release so you don't have to try and jam rounds in but simply twist handle after bullet noses are partially in cylinder, his cheap as the are the work good on gravity, trying to jam them in wears out the speed loader faster from stress from trying to force rounds in rather then as Clint Smith said 'let gravity be your friend'

  • @CWR66

    I have a S&W 686 plus 3 " barrel. I read a comment someone made saying the Azula holster for the 3" barrel is longer than it needs to be and that the one for the 2.5" barrel fits perfectly so I ordered both and they were right. The 686 plus is a big old heavy revolver but it is very easy to carry in the Azula holster. I carry it all day at work doing shipping and receiving in a manufacturing plant and under a loose shirt it disappears and doesn't feel all that heavy.

    As for holsters, I've owned a couple of 1791 owb's. They're generally a multi-fit holster, but solid and affordable. I used one for an SP101 .357, and the other for a 442 Airweight. 4 years ago, i purchased a Lobo Gunleather enhanced pancake holster for a relative's 3 inch SP101. The quality is excellent, but the base price was 115 dollars, before adding retention strap, smooth or suede linings, shields, etc. They're worth checking out. I will likely purchase an ehanced pancake or one of Lobo's other holsters for my Chiappa Rhino 200ds.

      I do a lot of it with revolvers. I recently got a hold of Zeta-6's Safe Snaps, used in this video. With semi-autos I do more visualization training; putting the gun on target and feeling the trigger squeeze in my mind's eye.
      I used to train with a use of force simulator we had in my lab at school, but we're talking a $23,000 piece of equipment that eventually bit the dust after nine years of use. However, I believe my ability to point and shoot with the simulator had more to do with my actual firearm practice instead of the other way around.
      Interesting to those of us who have studied martial arts, there was a book in the eighties that taught kata with a handgun. I never bought the book, but I put this in practice with my firearm's video. I only shoot one take, but practice the scenario several dozen times before actually going through the steps of moving, drawing, and firing.

    I was interested in 22 magnum, watched a few videos, and seen the round can actually tumble out of a 2in revolver. Have you ever had a 38 special tumble? Curious to know, I have a S&W 442 I want to get to know better.

    Good video Greg. Was the knife from Italy like mine?

    I hope you test it against the S&W 686 plus 3"

      I've got a GP100 in three inch, but I didn't think it would be a fair comparison since the Executive is .38 Plus P.

    You should try buying like a new steel target every month to grow a range and you will also grow your subscribers

      My range is too small to do it justice.

      @LionquestFitness ya but a year goes by pretty quick and you would have a range to plink around on to create more content and demonstrate more things that cannot be done on a public fire range. Get a few clear gel blocks would be fun as well. You remind me a lot about paul harrel and with a better range i think you would get really popular and youtube monetization would help create more content
