Having now looked at Object Shift and Voice as solutions to two problems we return to the topic of double object ditransitives to explain how the two arguments get case. An applicative (Appl) head is introduced, on a parallel with the Voice head to explain the addition of the Goal/Benefactive argument. Morphological evidence from a Bantu language, Chingoni, is given to support this hypothesis. AgrIO is introduced to assign Dative/Accusative case to the indirect object.
