Teslacam Stories is a series of Tesla owners' real experiences told by the Tesla Dashcam and Sentry Mode videos. All incidents are recorded from Tesla vehicles and submitted to this channel by other Tesla enthusiasts. I contact each person who sends me their videos to talk with them and learn more about their story and to follow up on what happened after what we see on their video. Voice-over and captions are added to describe what happened, and why. I believe that this additional information regarding the incident gives the videos a newsworthy value.
From the footage and additional information, a viewer can learn the consequences of bad driving and can educate his/her self with better driving safety. This process also gives the videos a great educational value. It is my desire to add my own unique and creative value in a transformative way to ensure you enjoy and learn from the videos being presented.

#whambaamteslacam #tesla #autopilot - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I’m the submitter from clip 13. I admit I was being dumb for not slowing down when seeing police lights. I didn’t want to disengage autopilot and kept to the left of the lights since I assumed it was just an off to the side accident.
For more context:
- no I did not drink
- I was on auto pilot so I assumed if there was an accident ahead Tesla would be able to detect it which is why I didn’t take over to slow down. It was very dark could only see the head lights from traffic ahead and didn’t notice the hazards from the black car due to it being perpendicular to the highway.
- no I was not distracted by the bumper, I only noticed it in my peripherals when I got closer.
- the clip you’re seeing is augmented by teslas night vision which over exposes the video making it way brighter than it really is.
- the Prius to my left also swerved last minute to avoid side swiping the front of the black car.
making excuses is not a good way to handle things like this...
driving at night you should already be going slower than usual and, especially if you see lights, slow down even more, disengage autopilot, and pay attention
hope you've learned that a fancy autopilot can't save you in a situation like this or to be more careful in general in the future
(and no, not saying i'm a better driver, just saying that learning from these is better than making excuses. excuses can kill)

@@leviathan-052 I admitted I should’ve slowed down but made a bad judgement not to, what more did you want? Lol I didn’t blame the cop or anyone else, it was just hard to see

Of course its the truckers fault, but that doesn't mean this accident isn't stupid and could have been completely preventeable.
In divers ed you learn not to drive besides a semi because there is a good chance that you won't be seen.

Brian, like the rest of us, need to scan side to side and keep your eyes peeled straight ahead to avoid stalled cars in the lane of travel. Looks like Brian got hooked by the flashy lights. Happens to all of us.
Also, I think drivers should have a emergency beacon light. It can be as simple as a magnetic flashing red LED device. It adds extra visibility if you're on the side of the road, or in a situation where you end up like this. You can place it on the vehicle so it can be seen since the vehicle's own lights can't be seen.

The main things I've learned from this channel is that Teslas are so delicate that any minor collision can result in a huge repair bill, or even total the car, and that Tesla repairs take forever and a half.
Premium cars for premium owners. The rest can go with a Corolla or a Camry.
@@Mprikimanthat's an interesting way to say "delicate" 😂
It’s not just Tesla that goes for any electric car. The actual conditions were obviously way darker than the night-vision video would make it seem, as anyone who’s ever driven at night would understand. Honestly, think for two seconds before you comment next time!

Next time stop being so distracted and keep your eyes on the road. Autopilot is a system to aid the driver, not one to replace the human at all
I have been in that EXACT position before, and yes it can very easily be done.
Because there are flashing lights to the right a good bit of your attention - direct or peripheral - is going to be on those lights. On a dark road a black car becomes all but invisible. What probably caught the driver's attention was the blinking yellow light that was not changing relative to traffic which set off subconscious alarms even before the Tesla reacted.
Emergency strobes have a secondary unintentional effect is that they pretty much completely blind people at night and cause havoc with the CCD chips used in modern cameras (including Teslas).

The camera makes scenes way brighter than reality at night. I’ve been in a similar situation-dark car, no visible lights on it, could not even see it until the last second. The moment his headlights kissed the car, he saw & maneuvered around it.
Can we agree on one thing? That other driver was not going to be sprinting anywhere.
It’s Tesla night vision. The scene is actually not this bright. If it was autopilot on Tesla would’ve stopped long before. Seems the Tesla noticed exactly when the driver noticed the car and swerved.
@@MidnightMustang What explains not slowing down? The dark car had it's hazards on. They're clearly visible not matter how "dark" it is. The presence of a stopped police vehicle with it's lights flashing is also a good warning that something might be on or near the road...
@@nboddie1036The later statement of yours is 100% a solid point. But in reality, no, the vehicle is not at all visible to the driver. #8 - that looks like A(probably T)W837(5 or 6) to me, fairly readable. Do a plate search using only the most readable character, filter it by brand and vehicle type, that shouldn't leave many possible suspects to check out for right-side scrapes consistent with the side-swipe and paint swap colors.
Sadly most search engines request a state as well and it's fairly hard to decipher. Could be many states to be honest. With it being close to Washington I'd take a guess that would be the state and it even looks similar to their plate format. Hope this helps him as those were the same digits I was thinking.

I would buy a tesla, but one thing that keeps me from doing this is the automatic shutdown after an accident that strands you in the middle of a highway. At least let the car go to neutral so it can be pushed out of the way! Also this feature is kinda dangerous if you think about it. what if you are out on a country road in a snow storm and hit something that disables your vehicle (although the vehicle itself was not too damaged to drive but the computer thinks it should shut it down) now you are stranded and freeze to death...
This also happens with a, fuel powered vehicle. The fuel pump will shut off after an accident. Most people don't know how to reset it. Normally cars should have a Manual override to get it in to neutral gear. Not sure about tesla tho.

the amount of "totalled" teslas is crazy. minor hit... totalled.
For a time where we are all on about "clean energy", we do give zero fucks about repairs.
Its money issue rather then not being able to fix a car. If you drive a Tesla worth 45K and repair shop says you need 50k to fix the lightbulb, insurance company would rather total it and pay 45k to the owner rather then 50k to repair it.
I guarantee most of totalled Teslas are soled to Eastern Europe where they fix them cheaper and they drive.
The real issue is that many Tesla repair shops are rorting the system, massively overcharging for repairs. This is a well known issue in the US (I'm not even in the US and I know this).
0:16 James, I would not accelerate when someone is trying to overtake me, especially when you do it as feebly as that. Either put your foot down and get briskly ahead of them, or let them complete their overtake. Driving alongside another vehicle is always risky.

Why do modern cars have so much bullsh1t sensors, the minor damage on some of them would be easily and cheaply fixed on older cars but on Tesla it totals them. Electric cars are a huge scam
Now teslas dont have sensor’s they’re using their cameras (that are also used for as dash-cams and records while parked)
I do agree the supersonic sensors are full of bs but they’re used as a safety measurement (parking sensors )to see how close to a car they are
The solution to uninsured drivers is an easy fix. Each year the DMV issues a new tag or plate, only if their records show active coverage. A central database is created and updated 24/7 (every insurace carrier must transmit ..its the law) which the DMV uses to validate the driver before issuing the new plate or tag. If its determined to be uninsured they notify to guard in duty which places a designated sticker on the windshield (front and back) that is easily identified as an uninsured vehicle. This way when officers on patrol see this car they are required by law to pull them over and impound the vehicle immediately. Problem solved. Your welcome.
Or, just have the wrecker at the DMV waiting 24/7 and tell the driver they will be impounded right now for driving to the DMV while uninsured...unless they get coverage right there and now. Another simple solution.
In NY, the second your insurance lapses, you are required to turn in your plates or you get a $10 fine for every day without insurance. The insurance companies notify the DMV immediately when it happens. Years ago, my insurance lapsed and I had to pay a $50 fine to the DMV after I got the money to restart my policy. I got a letter in the mail from the DMV within 2 days of it lapsing.
It kind of baffles me how expensive cars and their repairs are and how quick companies will just write off that much money.
I live about half a hour away from Battle Creek, I'm not too surprised something like this happened in Battle Creek
#20 James should have been aware of the Semi and accelerated a lot more, plenty of road ahead, no reason to stay in the blindspot of the semi
+1 the accident was easily avoidable by being aware of the surroundings. Following the rules and being right when the police arrives are great and all, but paying a bit of attention saves you a lot of time (and insurance premiums).

Is this not taught in drivers ed? Pure stupidness to accelerate with a semi while you are in the blindspot
@@jwewer01 That "blind spot" is a BS excuse. The fact is, the Tesla cams, which are down on the side of the car, could see the Trucker's face, so the trucker could absolutely see the Tesla, it's a physical impossibility for him to not be able to see the car, unless he just didn't look, which is what happened. He assumed that because he had passed the Tesla, that he would be ahead of it, and simply changed lanes without looking. Happens all the time with drivers who are on the road a lot, they get complacent.
1.Tesla could have avoided the accident driving slow saw truck behind him was in a rush he could have sped up & move out of the way
Is English not your first language?
You don't expect trucks to intentionally hit you.
Crazy how tesla drivers are involved but "not responsible" in like every accident
Thx for ending Wham Bam on a “nice little squeeze” ~ positive note!
The fact that the Model 3 in the first video was totalled by the insurance company tells me that Teslas are disposable cars, and they're designed to be unrepairable. That way, when you get into an accident, Tesla gets to sell you another one and KA-CHING! 💵 Because, you know, disposable cars in a landfill are SO good for the environment. Save the planet! Get a disposable Tesla! Again, and again and again! Yaaaay planet!
Again, James should have checked his mirrors, in EU everyone does but i guess americans just cant drive. He should have either sped up or let himself fall back from the blind spot
Not sure what Jeep you are talikng about at 6:41. I see a Dodge Journey type vehicle. I see it a lot in your video's where you have the make and model wrong. Maybe just cut out trying to call them out.
Police actively looking for the hit and run driver, asking us to help then blurring out every identifying characteristic of the vehicle and the driver committing the crime. Way to go OP

Something tells me; do NOT recommend any Family members to purchase a TESLA 🙄🤷🏼♀️
Why not? Safest cars on the road. It's the only car I want my family in.
No matter what's your car center of gravity is. If it's suspension is designed properly then you won't flip on plain tarmac under any circumstances until you have something applying severe lifting force to chassis.
That semi-truck that hit the Tesla at the beginning probably had a big load of breakfast cereal he had to get delivered, LOL. I think Battle Creek is home to Kelloggs. Glad everyone was O.K. GREAT VIDEO!
At first I thought the accura driver was in the right till I slowed it down to .25. The bmw only went in the turn lane as it started. I love these breakdowns (me headbanging to heavy metal in the background)
Bro it must be expensive to insure a Tesla. It seems like every time an accident results in a total lol
Uninsured and hit n run in bad drivers. It's a common combination.
7:51 Insurance would likely rule the BMW driver at fault since the Acura already got into the lane. You’re allowed to drive in the median for up to 200 feet in California and the BMW strayed a bit into the other lane. I’ve seen this happen a lot where I’m tryna move into another lane and the car behind me speeding up towards me ends up taking the lane instead. Doesn’t matter though, they got into the lane first.
These repair costs are insane!
Ver cómo el Karma Instantáneo mejora la seguridad vial es simplemente sorprendente. ¡Es genial!
Awesome video merry Christmas
you literally wanted us to identify the woman and blurred her face. LMAO。

Here watching this video at 1:30 am on Christmas Day, Merry Christmas everyone!
#13 why was the police vehicle not directly behind the wrecked car to warn other drivers?!
I’m hoping to get a Model Y in 2024. I drove about 3 hrs round trip to work and am looking forward to contributing to your channel. I already get some decent footage on my Rexing 4K in my current car but I keep forgetting to pull the footage before it is recorded over. Lol
4:05 How... though? Dash cam footage? In the van? Of what- the parking lot in front of the vehicle?
First clip: Truckers often use the excuse that they are sitting high and can't see vehicles down below in front of them. In this case the trucker knew the Tesla was there except he was distracted and lost his situational awareness.
13:11 ,now that's " Sentry mode " 💥
1:17 "James told us that he, his passengers, and even the trucker were all fine." Gee, the driver of a giant 40-ton Volvo big rig, wasn't hurt by a car? No! Really?😆 LOL
Can't believe this is already episode 231
1:55 "The Tesla ended up being totaled by James' insurance provider." Hmm. Sounds like his insurance company decided to help James out by paying for the trucker's wrongdoing, and will then subrogate it, meaning go get paid back by the other party.
as a trucker I have a feeling that the tesla was likely camping on the passengers side while I agree that it is the trucks fault in this situation . people in small cars need to realize that it is difficult to see you when you camp on the side of a semi and the worst thing you can do is remain on either side of a semi either slow down and let us merge or speed up and get out of the way . regular drivers need to realize that big trucks will always be trying to get back to the right lane and your little car can easily disappear in our blind spot. best way to avoid accidents with big trucks is do what we do give us space we cannot stop as fast nor can we get out of the way as fast . everyday I have to deal with a idiot who wants to camp on my right side without realizing that one strong gust of wind or a other merging car can easily end up really bad for everyone
Gudday mate. Can you please do more than just American tesler cams. Please do more of Australia tesla cams. Everything seems to be in th us but there are plenty in Australia. Cheers
It probably has to do with where his audience lives. He has featured videos from both Australia and New Zealand. It looks so freaky to see the mirrored traffic.
"I didn't even bother looking" = "you were in my blind spot"
For those of you wondering what song is playing on the background on video # 2, it is called The Night We Met by Lord Huron. It's a beautiful song.
Sadly , I don’t have Patreon , but I’ll show my support by recommending your CZcams channel to my friends and family 😄😄💗
Seattle police isnt looking for anything. You can walk down the street with an open bottle and lit blunt and they wont do anything. You can do double the speed limit and not get pulled over 😂😂😂
No shade, but the car at 6:33 was a dodge journey. It kinda looks like a jeep... if I squint my eyes and take my glasses off.
No offense but how are we supposed to help identify the driver if you block her face lol

The first clip reminds me how a semi truck hit my Mitsubishi but it was on the back right side and Impact was heavy but luckily passengers were safe.and dent was very bad even the paint came off
something for Tesla owners to consider: My family owns a body shop. More than any other car, Teslas seem to get totaled by their insurance companies because they are so expensive to fix. If you don't carry gap insurance, you will be out thousands of dollars if your insurance company totals your car even after seemingly minor accidents.
12:41 ATV 8375 should be enough for at least a very limited partial match. The video is clear enough to gather make/model
AYWB375 OR AYW8375
lol i almost pulled a hussain once but i was on the freeway in grid lock traffic. luckily noticed it the second the momentum changed and didn't freak out like that
12:50 Bob, to help you, the plate on the Pilot was a Washington plate 😊
