- Larry's ballad feature from a wonderful gathering of brilliant generations: tenorist Sam Taylor (left) and mentor Larry McKenna (right), with Steve Ash, piano; Neal Miner, string bass; Fukushi Tainaka, drums. Recorded at Smalls Jazz Club in New York City on June 23, 2019, by Michael Steinman for JAZZ LIVES (www.jazzlives.wordpress.com).
Larry McKenna, a new inspiration of mine. His time is obviously near to an end... I will follow this man to his final moments. He plays masterfully and elegantly.
Larry's great...the entire band is top notch. Great piano and bass solo! Drummer is amazing...listens!
Great rendition of a Classic .
There may be hundreds of great players like this, lurking in the backgrounds of cities all over the USA. Perhaps they had no urge to become famous. Yet, their music is filled with beauty and expression. I might also say that Trane got us off-Track, with his extreme intensity and speed. It is so good to hear vibrato again.
So beautiful. A master. An inspiration for any musician. Thanks for this pure moment of jazz
timeless tones...thanks larry...old jungle saying...you dont stop playing music because you get old,,you get old because you stop playing music..bravo,,
