Samus' relationship with Pikachu is actually so cute, she saved him, and now he protects her. When Ridley came to fuck everything up, Pikachu calling down that lighting bolt on him sends chills down my spine every time.

@@hexaphone9417 I think I saw somewhere that Pikachu is female, I'm not sure. But I used male pronouns to refer to Pikachu for the sake of breaking confusion, since Samus is female.
Colorlessie Sakurai did it because in the Metroid Manga Samus has a pet named Pyonchi that does the same thing. He has helped Samus while fighting. Pikachu reminded her of Pyonchi.

What I love about the ridley scene is not only does he call down a thunder onto ridley to save samus, but when he's protecting samus whilst she gets up the little guy is shaking in fear
I never noticed that! Makes what Pikachu did that much more badass bc even scared out of his mind he was gonna stand by Samus.
I saw it more as fury, he looks PISSED for what they did to his new friend and his convulsing in rage haha

When I first saw this scene, I was so sad for Pikachu. He was crying in pain while having that generator sap him of his electricity. Samus knew it was wrong and felt sorry for Pikachu so she broke him free.
It still makes me sad every time I see Pikachu cry in pain.

A lot of people believe that Samus's connection to Pikachu is due to her experiences with the baby Metroid following the events of Metroid II
Yes I know Smash isn't supposed to be canon to any of the characters respective series but it does provide a pretty decent explanation (aside from the fact that anyone who would willingly let a Pikachu suffer is a terrible person)

Well, Pokémon can be incredibly loyal so she gained a good partner that literally helped her against her worst nightmare.
Smash is not cannon, but the characters are basicly the same that came out driectly from the orignial games, so, i guess your point is actually a true about Samus and pikachu realtionship.
Theo characters aré more like in another timeline of "what if" thinks. Like, what if samus had actaully found Pikachu in one of her missions, and, all the things on smash will start to keep going, creating a new whole timeline for them and their games. Aldo, that same timelline will not be messing wiyh the canon one, cuz, both has diferents past and future that the characteres was folllowing. Só, basicaly, there's two Samus and two pikachus (the ones who has meet each other on smash timeline, and the other who just keep their individual histories from their games)
See it's stuff like this I miss from Subspace. Like the Nintendo fandom has fully accepted and used Samus and Pikachu as a duo all because of their little story in Subspace.

Anime, manga and Mystery Dungeon Pikachu are certified badasses that can go up against GODS.
My brother and I would play through these story modes multiple times when we were younger. I would always play as Samus and my brother would be Pikachu (which he was cool with since he loved Pikachu). We would even pretend we were the characters and talk as if we were them. Ah, childhood memories.....

This is still my favorite design of Zero Suit Samus. She doesn't look like she would give a shit about her appearance or sexiness. She doesn't have tacky high heels and ridiculous stretches showing off her body. She owns it confidently, but doesn't flaunt it. And I love how fierce and determined she can look while still allowing for genuine compassion and gratitude.

I remember as a kid having a holy shit moment when Samus got snatched up and pummeled into the wall by Ridley. Then Pikachu calling down the lightning to save Samus was the most badass thing my 9 year old self ever witnessed. I still think about how awesome it was daily.
These cutscenes with Zero Suit Samus and Pikachu are wholesome.

Man this scenes were pretty brutal. Pikachu being tortured and Samus getting a scrap beating like that. Loved this, so impactful, no dialoge but full of personality.

Other than Ash Ketchum, Samus Aran is the only other person worthy of His Pikachu. Samus and Pikachu make an incredible duo. I love the scene when Pikachu tries to intimidate Ridely. He’s like “If you want her, you gotta get past me”. After Samus saved him, he saved her. They make a great team!

The scene with Ridley just demonstrates the balls on a pokemon, they could be the size of my hand and still be ballsy enough to face something 20 times their size

Samus Aran just finished the last brawl in the arena and she is really tired from all the fighting and jumping, so she heads to her apartment where she shares it with Pikachu.
(Samus’s door opens)

Samus: Not now Pikachu, I really do not have the energy for tonight.

Samus: I thought I said “not now” to you didn’t I.
Pikachu:(Sadly)Pika
(Samus goes into the kitchen to make some coffee.)
Samus:(talks in her mind whilst making coffee)Sighs...Why was I the one asked to take care of Pikachu? Well I did saved his life from that horrible machine that was using him as a battery during the subspace emissary so maybe that’s why. I know Peach and Zelda said that he loves me and has grown attached to me but I’d just like Pikachu to understand me and when I want to be alone.
(Samus pours hot water from the kettle into her cup and sees Pikachu sitting on the sofa with a sad face and even hears a sniff from him.)
Samus:(Talks in her mind)Sighs....I shouldn’t be so hard on him but I don’t like showing too much emotion or affection. Maybe...maybe I should just try and cope with him for tonight.
(Samus grabs her cup of coffee and heads for the sofa and sits next to Pikachu)
Samus:(takes a sip of her coffee)
Pikachu:(Quietly)Pika
Samus:Sighs...do you wanna a sip?
Pikachu:(Nods)
Samus: okay here(She gives Pikachu a taste)

I can understand Samus's situation, Her past is... Brutal to say the least, and others that seemed like allies, have often become, corrupted one way or another. I mean nothing says "I'm not comfortable around others" like, loosing three fathers. So, despite being the Galaxy's greatest hunter, Samus Aran is Still a human, with emotions and thoughts beyond just her mission. It's a similar situation as with, Link for example, most of the time, Link is one of internal troubles and rarely speaks because of that. Samus, would likely have gone insane had it not been for her Chozo Family. They were the race that gifted her with her Duty, as the Universe's Savior. As well as to provide her the comfort she needed to dawn the Power suit Successfully. But, A Pikachu is not one to Betray her. A Pokémon is in general, a Monster that has some kind of Super power, that can be trained. But, they are more than capable of learning things from humans, most importantly, speech. Everyone knows about Meowth from the anime being able to speak, and that was simply because of a personal desire for himself. I find it likely that the closer a Pokémon gets to their Human, the more they become similar to them, and that's simply due to undying loyalty from the Pokémon (Most of them anyway) and the love they can receive from a trainer. Both are much weaker without the other. It's exactly why Wild Pokémon are rarely fully evolved in the wild. Despite most Pokémon enjoying battling. A trainer gives them a saftey net to return to, even if they get KO'd. It's also worth noting that a Pokémon that likes/loves it's trainer will be able to level up faster than one who may have just been caught. No, Pokémon aren't animals, but some may resemble animals, but also objects, humanoids, And everything in between. It's all about the Discovery and adventure for most people who may have never even considered becoming a trainer before, but is it ever worth it for most. Even if you say never had a human friend, But did catch say a Caterpie for example, as long as you are a good person, and try your best, your Pokémon will have complete faith in you to improve. Sure if you loose a battle it can certainly feel demoralizing, but that should realistically be your call to train more, not necessarily harder, but with more affection and trust in your Pokémon. They are the ones who are battling and they want to feel appreciated and loved, just like any living thing. And even if you may not be the best battler, sometimes, just your love alone may be able to make your partner evolve into their next stage. Everyone has their favorites, for some, they just caught a Pokémon that was cool or cute to them, others may have a story attached to them, and that's why they're attached to them. But, every person and every Pokémon are unique in their own way. It just so happened to be, that Brawl gave us an interaction between A seasoned Bounty Hunter, and a cute yellow mouse.

I think its because they are Toys in the Smash Universe, which also explains why Olimar is bigger too (he is probably smaller than pikachu in their canon universes because he is an inch tall)

I think it was due to it being pre "other M" when samus was for the most part an emotionless bounty hunter and the hesitation to interfere and possibly put her wellbeing in danger was due to that.

I think she didn't realize exactly what was happening to pikachu, she notices in the end that the pikachu is in pain. Plus probably didn't want to interfere since it would probably cause an alarm, which it did
samus has seen all kinds of weird alien creatures so her first thought might have been that pikachu was contained to protect everyone else, not just to harness its power. Then she sees it suffering and empathizes. Is it really not obvious?
