I think Metroid Prime 2's game over screen was the scariest. Lime you actually hear Samus' heart monitor go into overdrive before flatlining and it all goes static.
Agree
I think that prime 3s was worse
YES
@@xs-xyt5721 the blood
@@Iknowhowbadthisnameis8828 that’s what I think makes it darker
Every metroid Game: armor gets destroyed
Metroid prime: you die, like, that's it
Metroid I & II: *PROCEEDS TO FUCKING DESINTEGRATE.*
I don’t feel so good Mr. Miyamoto
So, anyway I started disintegrating
Metroid Prime 2: c a r d i a c a r r e s t.
Oh
E.M.M.I. death: Murder..... but big needle
I remember being scared as a kid of the game overs in metroid prime 1, 2, and 3. The scream gives me chills, it actually feels like your character straight up died.
well, yeah
@@silvergotrekt your comment is literally what I said in my head then I read it. Made me laugh.
Yeah I remember playing Metroid prime on the GameCube as a kid and I got scared of like the first part of the game and when I died I ended duo crying cuz the game over screen scared me so much as a kid
It was actually Metroid prime echoes that I got scared by the game over screen as a kid
@@touriian8371 You have to read it in Jennifer Douillard's Amy voice.
I must have seen the two death animations in Dread over 100 times. That game was BRUTALLY difficult
They don't call it dread for no reason
@@Quickcat21MK getting caught by the EMMI definitely feels like failing a throw tech
Being an avid metroid fan, i thought Fusion was a bit harder. Excited to try Dread mode though
@@stormy_does_stuff Metroid Dread? More like... Metroid DEAD
If you think that game is brutally difficult, play the NES Metroid then you will know what brutally difficult is
Damn, The Metroid Prime death screens are brutal.
I'm honestly surprised those games aren't M rated, especially during that time.
I still find Prime 2 the most upsetting. Seeing an xray of her heart stopping. The colour palette in Prime 2 really adds to it. But I will say Prime 3's ominous blood death screen is more creepy.
Ikr
Blood in Nintendo games moment*
Blood in freaking nintendo games
Like why Metroid they already did this with Kirby in dream land 3 if you don’t know what I’m talking about search zero Kirby
I guess Samus was on her period in Prime 3. 🤷🏽♂️
The Prime series loves to hammer home the fact that you are, in fact, dead. No sugarcoating.
Prime 2: Hmmm, how about… C A R D I A C A R R E S T
Prime trilogy's death are absolutely fucking unsettling.
Picture it;
You just met Umos in Prime 2, you go into the Dark Aether as a 12 year old brat at nighttime on a weekend, and you get clapped by 15dps.
You are now absolutely terrified and no longer want to play the game, and cant sleepfor the sound of that flatline tone is stuck in your head.
@Michael Arguello wha-
Especially that if you run out of HP in any of the Prime games, that's it. Samus straight up dies.
@@CaptainRascothat was very specific
5:44
“Power suit energy is depleted”
What an understatement. She exploded!
Metroid Dread has my favorite death sequence. Like others have pointed out, the lights and effects really add to it, but I think the reason it’s so successful is actually Samus’s pose, particularly her arms. In other death animations, her arms sort of angle to the back, which in my opinion looks a little awkward. In Dread, her arms shoot more outwards, which really sells the feeling of force.
Prime and NES (and a few): Hello there
Papapa... No scream in the end, ruined death animation
Some of those animations were straight up BRUTAL, specifically the morph ball ones. Not only do you die, but _YOU LITERALLY EXPLODE INTO A MILLION PIECES_
...which is pretty much what happens in the original Metroid, the suit basically selfdestructs, taking you with it. Though I have no idea wtf is up with the death for suitless Samus being the exact same thing. 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Samus's powersuit allows her to take on entire planetary armies and was created by magical space birds. The explosion should be larger IMO. 🤣
2D Metroid games: *dramatic half naked pose*
Prime games: *Life support systems flatlining... We watch her heart stopping to beat... Blood everywhere...*
The Most brutal death in the Metroid series was the GAME_OVER screen in Prime 3. You could see the blood going everywhere from Samus’ death.
And then her eyes closing after the blood soaks up the visor, absolutely terrifying
I love Metroid Prime 3 the most, and the Phazon Corruption overload is really cool in my opinion
THATS how dark samus was in smash
Samus turning into dark Samus 😅 I see it as a win 🏆
Are we all just gonna ignore how in Dread that robot thing just straight up thrusts a blade through Samus' throat?
Gotta extract that metroid data
It’s called an E.M.M.I
@@Rbxkid21 👍
Her sternum (breastbone), actually. So her heart.
7:15 the corrupted DNA one is the most brutal to me
Phazon.
Seen in Prime 1.
Never knew it fully corrupts you in Prime 3
Reminds me of Hollow Knight.
Nes:Wow, even in zero suit, she just explode into pieces, that's kinda shocking
The return of Samus:
This one is kinda crazy how she just desintegrates into thin air, for some reason it feels sadder than usual
Super Metroid: It's just me... or do they bounce?
Prime: Imagine if someone really tought their TV turned off during a critical moment in the game
Prime morphball: never knew about this one, it's a really cool detail
Fusion:Samus states in the intro of the game that due to the X they could not remove the suit from her alive, this make this one the best one as a game-over screen IMO
Zero mission:I just noticed her hair tie also desintegrates
Prime 2: Another really good one, I love the way it just abruptly cuts to "Continue from last save?"
Pinball: . . . Poetic
Prime hunters: "Let's do like Primes'es game-over screen but w/o the cool parts"
Prime hunters morphball: That's the default explotion effect
Prime 3: Metroid: The only Nintendo franchise allowed to have corpses and blood
Corruption: This one is also great, the cool animation and a simple but effective game over
Other M: Can't unheard the "Snake? SNAAAAAAAKE!!!"
Federation forces: I forgot this existed
Samus returns: Now we'll never know what Metroid 2 death animation was
DREAD: This one is the best visually, all the flashing lights and effects do a great job making it really impactful
Also worth mentioning in Super that the zero suit also disintegrates
@@DisasterEnby At 0:55 What is this please?
They do bounce 😭
Whoever came up with the idea of Samus's suit being shatter deserves a raise.
I was killed during a failed counter with Raven Beak in Dread. She just gets anticlimactically knocked on the ground and I got the game over screen!
Yeah the failed counter deaths are actually kinda hilarious. You don't even see her suit shatter. She's just dead while flailing.
People without good quick time event reactions playing Dread mode: 😐
The NES death is still the most terrifying one.
METROID PRIME 2 LITERALLY EXISTS
@@jadeaaron2003 Metroid prime 2 is just straight up dark and terrifying.
Metroid Prime exists, bro
I feel so connected to samus personally because metroid was my very first game and series whenever I died I felt extremely horrible. Her heart attack though hits me hardest.
What about pikmin? Whenever they die I feel like a piece of crap.
@ExGanonMain never played it but samus us special in some way to me
@@Cody-nu8cv You should play it soon it’s really good
Out to y'all saying that the terminal is the most brutal. Short reminder: The terminal corruption shows samus' visor slowly filling up with the phazon energy and turning blue. The regular death one on the other hand, is literally SAMUS FALLING DOWN TO THE GROUND AND BREATHING OUT BLOOD ON HER VISOR WHILE TAKING HER LAST FUCKING BREATH. That is at least ten times more hauntingly brutal
Prime 3's game over screen, damn.
As a kid, Metroid Prime 2 scaried me the most at the time. I buyed the Wii trilogy not long ago, and I am playing it again btw.
the suit exploding off of her is actually badass
4:55 You are DED, NOT A BIG SURPRISE
7:46 Ooooooh, very skeery
Ok, so at least according to other M, she can get killed THROUGH her armor. I thought the armor would have to dematerialize, thus leaving her vulnerable, before she actually gets killed, but I was wrong.
her armour has energy shields that protect her from damage, if those shield are gone her armour is pretty easy to damage
Her energy tanks are her life force. Even with armor if it depletes she instantly dies. The suit is her second skin, a part of her. She and the suit are one entity
@@theakiwar9118 actually no, the armor is linked to the zero suit. It still is linked to her vitality however.
I mean. The emmi does stab her in the sternum with her armor still on in Dread.
The baby
Lets be honest, the first two games were BRUTAL.
Well now that i've played the 2nd, I have to be honest the first one was the brutal one.
Well, what about the Prime 1, 2, and 3? It shows Samus dying from no life support (1) having cardiac arrest (2) and just bleeding naturally or bleeding blue from terminal corruption. (3) now THAT'S brutal. ಥ‿ಥ

Easiest and best 2 metroid games in my opinion. Havent played the prime games, the spin offs, nor other m yet though.
Metroid Deaths are SCARY. Samus's actor nailed the screaming in the 3D games. It's actually the 2D (or 2.5D) games that I have problems with, because it just feels weird seeing her Zero Suit every time she dies.
Why?
@@dylanb2990 When it comes to those types of stuff, It’s enough to make me blush.

Personally MP1 is my favorite. It's crazy to see samus with a broken visor and also to just self detonate in morph ball mode. Makes her even more badass I feel
damn prime 2's game over is dark
Pretty much just a more detailed Prime 1 game over screen.
all prime's game over are dark
@@danieltentori7523 especially the corruption one
Prime 3's one is literally dark
I like that in the original Metroid 2, you get thanos snapped. Don’t know if that effect happened in marvel comics, or if that comic came out before Metroid 2, but they definitely didn’t get the idea from the movie
It just happens to be an easy effect to do. Odds are, it’s based off of things burning to ash in fire.

@@alexios4512 thank you, it’s called a condition ;-)
Wtf no it's because it's just easy to do and the style is 8-bit
Metroid 1 on Justin Bailey code looks surprisingly graphic, when you think about it.
In prime 3 you just turn into dark samus, how cool
9:11 This death is really sad. It shows flashbacks of Anthony and Adam, as if Samus is trying to say "Anthony... Forgive me... Adam... It looks like I'm going to join you soon..."
I love how beardbear included the Justin bailey Easter egg.
1:15 Super Metroid is my fav.
Samus: exists
Emmi: swiggerty swooty
Imma pierce that chest with my dna extracting needle head
They are really crazy with "warning" and "alert" words in the game over in metroid prime 2
4:28 was made very cool
👍🏼 Really thorough.
Damn, Dread is by far the best game mechanically.
Honestly, Dread was my first ever Metroid game. I’m looking at these, and maybe with the exception of Samus Returns, I don’t feel like giving any other game a chance. They don’t seem as mechanically sound or even fun. Did I just so happen to start with the game that peaks gameplay wise? Lol
i really get the vibe "YOU BECAME WHAT YOU SWORE TO DESTROY!!!" here... 7:19
The cinematic self-destruct death in Metroid Other M reminds me of the self-destruct deaths in the resident evil games, only less scarier game over screen.
I played Other M and didnt even see that death screen during the self-destruction segment o.O (I was even wondering why the CZcamsr added Other M a second time in this video)
The cutscene is so tragic, we can see every very important characters who risqued their life to save her

This might be the only video to document the Other M escape sequence failure. I didn't think anyone else knew about it.
The screams frighten me.
0:45 i like the fact the music gets interrupted
0:27 how is nobody talking about this death, Samus straight up got obliterated into tiny pieces. She didn’t even have any upgrades, so you know she got real messed up.
0:17 Hey thanks for showing Justin Bailey mode!
prime 1's game over is incredibly disturbing in the way her head starts slumping as she dies
I JUST caught the head tilt. O_O
@@tailedgates9 never caught that, it's only a slight tilt till it goes to back.
i love the cardiac arrest in prime 2 though, just something about seeing her heart to absolutely batshit insane, before just coming to a complete stop.
then prime 3s deaths, being her just coughing up regular blood and the corrupted "death" just being a death in a sense that the "samus" we know died, but not her actual body and she just becomes Dark Samus.
shows they actually cared about the minor details, we didn't need this level of detail in a fucking game over screen. (now, if only prime 3 wasn't motion controlled)
in prime 2 you see her going into FUCKING CARDIAC ARREST
3:07 As I've seen the monster's eye moves perfectly, what emulator have you used for that?
My favorite deaths were Metroid Prime 1&2 because it makes a lot more sense for her life support to fail when energy reserves reach critical then her suit just blowing up. Also, they’re really unsettling.
If they really wanted her suit to compromise in her death animation, they should have replaced energy with suit integrity.

Damn I never realized how deep that metroid 2 gameover screen was as a kid until I lost family members. I really ignored that. Also strange how the donkey kong country game overs still takes a strong lead to me since I was a kid. Not scary anymore but crazy cause it's just a picture compared to these

Man I can't wait to play Dread again!
Damn i came here after dread hoping I would be able to recognize which handheld game I played as a kid. All I remembered was an eye monster of some sort, and this made it pretty easy to realize which game I had owned
Metroid Prime 2's game over screen seems more in-line with what you see in the first Black Ops game.
Can't wait for the metroid prime trilogy on the switch. It's motion controls aren't as tight as the wii, but I know they'll do it justice.
I'm hoping for a modern fps control scheme in addition to the original and gyro.
Welp, the first Prime is now on Switch (and remastered/remade) and it's freaking fantastic.
1/3 success
Prime 2's death scene was just depressing :,(
Super metriod and the prime series were the best of all the metriod games.
Imagine your armor being flung off your body just because you bumped into someone...
What was that game with the cut scenes? I looked online and on official metroid timelines and the only one that looked similar had its name blacked out like it was redacted
The Metroid 2 death sound is actually pretty satisfying
11:39 there's also a version of the EMMI death screen where if you're against a wall it will slam you on it and kill you
I have given a try at prime 2 when i was 10 but i had stopped playing quickly but i could not remember why.
After finishing prime 3 and loving it, i wanted to retry the two firsts, and sarted with prime 2 since it was the first i played and wanted to see what have made me quit...

You know I just realized that after Dark Sammy got her *as kicked twice via Sammy overloading her with Phazon. In MP3 she infects Samus with Phazon, in which if she isn't careful the Phazon will overload destroying her albeit in a different way. It's like she's saying: "How does it feel when it happens to you!" Lol.
