When he first tested the 95 car at Estoril with the V12 engine he was very fast. He did a time that would have got him pole for the race. He put John Barnard in a pickle because Schumacher loved the how characteristics of the V12 it suited his style. But JB had told Ferrari they need a V10. He said “ what could I do ? I told them to build a V10 which was already nearly completed. But I’ve got the current world champion and the best driver by far telling me he wants the V12 and is incredibly quick with it.” It just showed oh much he was better than everyone else. Berger and Alesi were no slouches and they complained about that car when Michael thought it was brilliant and said he felt sorry for Berger and Alesi because if they thought that car was bad they would hate the Benetton.

We all know the FW17 was the class of the field, and as discussed here the 412T2 arguably had better pace than the B195, but I think it’s ambitious of you to think any other cars were quicker.

I don't know, Ferrari hasn't been able to win a title for so much time. Maybe after the rules change in 98 they have a chance. But only if Williams doesn't dominate again or some other team (maybe McLaren? Hakkinen is pretty good). I don't see them dominating though. No way.

Imagine Schumacher driving for Ferrari with their modern day strategy. Just imagine, he pulls of a masterclass first two stints, pits in for some hard tyres and a full tank of fuel with like 10 laps to go and loses the race.

I remember reading that after Schumacher tested that 1995 412 T2, he said that it was as good as the Benetton he had won the title with in 1995. It's a shame he had to wait a year for Rory Byrne & Ross Brawn to move over, who knows what he may have achieved in 1996 & 1997 with a better designed car. That F310 in 1996 was an absolute dog of a car

@@someoneunseen5168 lol there is no world Michael was in the title fight in 1996. That F310 was a pig of a car. Often it would be a second off the Williams in qualifying. Michael managing to win 3 races & get 3 poles was a testament to his skill. Irvine was a good driver & look how he struggled with it. The car was god awful until Canada when Ferrari finally developed a raised nose design (they were the only team not to follow this design in 1996) which improved performance slightly, but it was miles off the Williams. Like when Michael won the Spanish GP it was down to his skill in the wet. In the dry in quali he was a full second off Hill on pole

Schumacher was amazing but F1 was very boring when he won all the time. Kinda like when Lewis won or now when max wins. We know the winner before the race. Thats alright for 1 year but not 4-5-6 etc. It gets very boring. They scuppered Schumacher by a rule change with the tyres that he and ferrari couldn't adapt to but Alonso could. Suddenly Schumacher was beatable.

youre right however theres a difference in boring; back then we had V10s (and a V12 till 95) to be enthralled by, a paddock full of characters that spoke without censor, T cars, refueling, ciggy sponsorships, pit girls, shady businessmen doing shady sponsorship deals, real backmarkers, no costcaps, more real testing (less sim)
F1 was real, unlike the sterilized liberty media show bs we have today
