Here’s something you don’t see every day!
We’ve got a tuned Ford Mustang V8 going up against a BMW 3.0 CSL?! Well, not exactly…
You see, what we have here is a BMW 3.0 CSL recreation - effectively a homage to the original Batmobile! But that’s not all, it’s been created by the team at Electric Classic Cars, so you won’t be finding an internal combustion engine under the bonnet! Instead, it rolls up to the start line with an 85kWh battery pack (lifted from a Model S) and it has the ability to produce around 450hp & 400Nm of torque!
In comparison, the Mustang has kept hold of its 5-litre V8, although the power output has been increased slightly from 450hp to 490hp. The torque output is still the same, at 530Nm. It’s also slightly heavier than the BMW, tipping the scales at 1740kg (compared to 1,550kg).
So how will this play out - will the EV power itself to victory? Or will the tuned V8 just have enough to edge it? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

The whole point of a classic car is to experience the noise, smell and the way it drives. It is not all about 0-60. That BMW was at the recent auction and it failed to even get to the bottom estimate.

I kind of see why someone would want an electric classic car, you get the design all the time in a useable every day package
But it kind of defeats the purpose when the engine is so important like in the case of this car
Well not rly usable every day, because the replacement parts are not that easy to found like in a new car. And rare version of these cars should be preserved, if it was a base model or version I can understand the concept but if it’s a rare version I would keep it stock as much as possible

I get it, the CSi is now faster then its oem engine, more efficient etc etc....but its sucking the soul out from a classic BMW taking the inline 6 out imo.
I have a very nice e24 and am quite interested in converting it to electric in the next ten years. the soul of the car is an underpowered, inefficient inline 6. the m30 doesn't stir anything in me. quite the contrary.

Even if it isn't a real CSL I still love the E9's to death, they were so dominant during the 70's in the European Touring Car Championship, winning 5 in a row, legendary.

Matt - dunno if you’ll ever see this but I have to say - your videos are great - some of the best drag racing on CZcams. You always post the 1/4 times which is obviously very important. I think I speak for many fans of drag racing when I say that if you could include two additional pieces of information in your races it would truly make them so much more interesting. The 1/4 mile trap speeds would be awesome to know. Even if it were a peek at the Speedo as you cross the 1/4 mile line. The other piece of info that I’m sure a lot of us would love to know is the 1/2 mile trap speed as well. 1/2 mile races for top speed are a common type of race in the US and it would be awesome to know those speeds. Thank you brother your channel is the best

Curious about the dialing down on power on this car. Could it be done in a way that allows for a clean start with less wheelspin but without hindering top end? As in some sort of traction control used in ICE cars?

Even if it was a CSi, that's a waste of a CSi. I hope it was some rusty shell with no chance of recovery.
He does typically do full restorations on cars which are otherwise derelict, and are usually ones which have fallen into disuse because their engines are beyond economic repair. After all, he wants to start with a cheap example, not an expensive one
