Nice meeting you at the GA Meet-Up!! Glad to hear you nailed down the issue on the R6!
First time long time. Just wanted to say that this channel is easily one of my favorite moto channels by far. Love the modifications you do. Everything is so clean and tastefully OEM plus. Keep up the great work man.
Motonosity , you should add a relay or a switch to the DRL's to prevent them from draining the battery. if you add a relay to the DRL's and connect relay to your ignition switch, you can have the ignition switch voltage close the relay allowing power to go to the DRL's. When the ignition switch is off the relay would open and disconnect the battery from the DRL's preventing battery drain. The wiring might be a bit difficult, but it would beat having to charge the battery constantly
Glad you figured it out bro! Gotta keep that R6 on the streets!
Damn it's a bummer that happened to your battery but luckily you caught it in time it could have been very bad. Great video as always and have a great weekend.
Glad you got the sorted out. Lithium batteries are cool and everything, but I think I am just gonna stick with the traditional ones for the time being. Especially after seeing this.
Thanks for confirming my decision to stick with the standard yuasa battery!
Glad you figured out the problem. You really shouldn't ride in the middle of the lane like that, especially when it starts raining. That is where anything that leaks from a car goes so it is extra slippery.
Could you do a video on how to push start you r6 I tried with mine but I was probably doing it wrong also where did you get your lithium batter and how much was it?
When I first found Motonosity's channel, he had *just* become a full time CZcamsr. So, wow, it *has* been 3 years!
Glad I just watched this. I cancelled my order of a Shorai battery just now on Amazon. *sigh* is there no good lightweight battery solution for our bikes out there?
As someone who's lived in the same area as you now live in for 23 years I'll have to say although we've had more rain than usual this year. That was more in the spring but Jun-Aug you're almost guaranteed an afternoon shower multiple times a week
Hey Moto. glad you got it figured out. I have said before that I too have a 2017 R6. I am still in the break in stage with around 300 miles on her. (i have a few bikes too. lol) I was wondering if you could do a video on the sport mode and traction control settings with actual testing on the road with those settings. The more you can explain the better. Such as while in 1st gear and rolling the throttle past 10k in A mode or standard mode, WILL THE FRONT WHEEL LIFT in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear ??? I am really a newb at this and I wanna know what to expect. NO ONE HAS DONE AN IN DEPTH video such as this for new SS owners. IThis would be ground breaking. lol. have not had my R6 above 8k yet and I have not had it in A mode AT ALL. I have not had the traction control below 5. All because its still in break in mode. Please keep in mind that although I have been riding for 15 yrs; all I have rode is cruisers. This is my first Super Sport at the ripe old/young age of 47. lol So I am hoping you can help me out Sir. Thank you so much & God Bless.
Hi Motonosity, would u update ur garage, so ur stuff organize well and make it as series at ur channel?
What brand/Where did you get your carbon fiber rear tire hugger? Want to get one for my 2017 R6 as well.
Would you recommend getting the DRLs considering the battery drain? I'm thinking of getting them but you've made me worried about the drain from them.
Motonosity, I moved from San Antonio to the Florida Panhandle and man I miss the more predictable weather. The one predictable thing is that it's most likely going to rain at one point during the day. Right now i think it's been a good 2 weeks in a row where we've had rain here. Terrible for riders because the roads get treacherous even for Cars.
If you have'nt started the bike for a while, will there be a slight delay when you hit the ignition? Just started mine after a month or so and i pressed the switch but it took a good few seconds to start.
You should set up all of your bikes for a quick connect battery tender. I use one on my jet ski and it has made a huge difference in battery longevity!
I've got one set up on the R6! I wanna get one of those maintainers that can connect to 4 at once lol.
did you use it before it happened and the lights still drained the battery?
Yeah I used my charger before.
Can you explain more about what this is?
Mira SC it is a trickle charger that slowly keeps your battery topped of so that during extended periods of time you can maintain the health of the battery. You are also able to get ones with quick connects so that you can just have a plug sticking out of your bike somewhere subtle and you can just plug it in without removing any body pieces.
I kid you not.. I was scratching my head since I saw the problem video. Pretty wild. Glad it was a fairly easy find... I mean.. compared to what it could have been. I'd still do lithium. But I ride everyday.
South Carolina's been similar with the rain.
Question, my very same R6's battery was drained too (from not riding it for 5 weeks), and after I recharged it, the check engine light won't go away. Any idea what's going on? The bike is less than 1500miles.
Why don't you have the strips wired through the ignition? So all power to them gets cut off when you cut the ignition (as so many just leave on the kill-switch and take out the key).
They are. Power is run through the license plate light which comes on with the ignition.
But how are they draining then? The battery shouldn't be capable of being drained by them by standing still then.. then you have something else draining elsewhere. Gotta get a battery-disconnect switch for the bike then, so you flip it to disconnected when you don't use the bike.
Maybe wire them through a relay. Use ignition to power the relay and close the circuit to power your DRLs. Then there should be no chance of power draining.
Some clarification I guess. The controller is powered through the license plate light. The lights themselves use the OEM light connectors. Not sure if those are on an always on circuit and controlled by the ECU or what. But wiring them any other way wouldn't make sense. Keeps it clean and direct-swapable
Hmm, if you find a wiring diagram for the R6 you can see if there would be a drain from the controller like that, alternatively using the beeper on a voltmeter to see if there's actually a connection still going even when off with the plate light
just bought a husqvarna 701 sm and after 110km it shutted down 3 times in the last 10 kilometers while just cruisin , now i sended back to the shop and they said after hooking the bike up for electrical issues that they didnt see anything wrong with it ,so what could be wrong than ?
On a yamaha forum I've been on a while, I read that the heart of motorcycle fires are caused from running a lithium battery on a system that's designed to charge and run on a lead-acid battery.
Out of curiosity which mirror plates did you install on the bike
Hey motonosity thanks for shooting this video for aspect ratio 18:9 display version in mobile it fits so perfectly
And ur content loving it as always keep it up😋
Glad you enjoy it man 😊
So I've got a buzzing noise, and a high pitched noise when I try and crank it over... not sure what it could be.. any ideas?
You might want to look into a low voltage cutoff module. It does the same thing as the antigravity battery does. It disconnects the battery when it drops to low. Not sure if they make them for lithium batteries but I'm pretty sure they do but then again if the antigravity battery has it built in already then give that a try. Or stick a relay on your DRL's to disconnect them from the battery when the bike is shutoff.
I have the same DRLs on my R6. For some strange reason the DRLs don’t work properly immediately when you disconnect then reconnect the battery. They will work fine again when you turn off your bike and start it up again.
How did the luimoto seat covers hold up in the rain ?
I may not have the exact same issue but it is winter right now and my motorcycle starts right up with an anti-gravity eight cell and also with a for sale but now I'm starting to notice it starts up for about 10 seconds then dies then it'll start right back up again when I manually start it. I have a for sale anti-gravity battery not the restart one but just a normal for sale and it starts up a 1986 Pontiac fiero engine and also my 2009 Yamaha R6S no problem.I'm amazed by what these little lithium ion batteries can do they're pretty badass so if you decide to go to the anti-gravity route I would suggest it I've had that for sale for about 5 years now used in a multiple things and I think it is just now dying on me now but I'm not completely sure I'm doing the slow battery charge with the proper charger and it seems to be coming back to life but definitely a winner.
Can motonosity or anyone help me figure this out? Quick and easy: I have a Yamaha r3 2019, recently in an accident; got all of the exteriors fixed including a new strator cover because it cracked off. The bike runs fine, but the running lights for the front and rear turn signals, including the running brake light doesn’t turn on. When I press the switch for turn signals and hazards, the lights turn on and off as it should, but running lights on them nor the brake light at all turns on making it a dangerous situation for riding at night. Any solutions or tips I should use to fix this situation🤧???
R6 or r3 for started bike? I'm 16 at 6 ft 4 and 230 LB
Are the drl's connected straight to the battery? why don't you connect it where you get power when the key is on the ON position?
That may solve your draining issues
Misael Bianco - they're powered through the license plate light which turns on with the ignition.
On a different note from all the people trying to tell you how to solve your problems. I love the sound of that bike damn😍🤤 Especially when you get it higher in the RPMS I love it!!
I know it has nothing to do with bikes but my cars battery will die in like a day or 2 if I don't start it if I have like 1 thing plugged in but not on in my car, need a new battery anyways but should I get a lithium battery? I do drive it ever single day now that I have work
hey i have a ? my 06r6 is over heating but not really soon as i turn the bike on for the first time of the day it says bike is to hot have i just started it like i had yet to be running i think its a sensor problem but not sure have u seen this be for so re cap turn keey on push button bike is at it hottest hot/over heating yet bike is dead cold pleas get back to me
Got a question who gonna run the Austin meet up now
For me, it was because I did the full exhaust replace but I didn't do anything about the servo motor, and that made my bike, that I had for 6 months at this point, die 1 week after installing.
Got the servo buddy in there after a month, and all is well. Except for the CEL now. 😩 so now I gotta figure that out for the 17' R6
I've lived in atlanta for 25 years and the weather has always been crazy. I rolled my bike out on Friday, got geared up, and when I walked out it was pouring! A discharged battery will cause all sorts of issues especially on a vehicle with a ton of electronics. See it all the time at work. Also seen the aftermath of exploding batteries a few times. It's not pretty! I think I'll stick with my factory battery. I have bad luck with lithium batteries elsewhere. Just too finicky.
I'm guessing Lithium Batteries can be sensitive. that was a close call, it could have been worse. glad everything worked out.
I've thought about putting a lithium battery into my DR800 Project "Quackattack" because the stock one is....outrageously huge and heavy, just to save weight. I had concerns with them being too finnicky though...guess after seeing this I'll stick to a normal battery, wouldn't want my behind to catch on fire.
Also just remembered, the dash on my GSX-R was once behaving similarly and did the most interesting things and the reason was that the battery connectors came loose...just if you have something similar happen again with a normal battery lol
So we shouldn't upgrade/buy a lightweight lithium battery for our R6s?
Looks like I'm never putting one of those on my bike, I go for long periods without riding unfortunately.
Do you still have stock mirrors
i wonder went the grom build will start
Any time you hook up not stock electrical equipment you should make a relay switch for it. It will prevent any drain on the battery when not running.
Why do you fit some after market shit to drain power right off the battery? Let it power on only with the ignition on.
This has happened to me already exactly step by step like yours, same thing the gauge went crazy!!!!
It's the regulator/ rectifier.
Only happen to me was when I rode it... if i start it ran fine but when I rode it went crazy like yours...
The regulator/ rectifier couldn't make the charge current to the battery charge at the right voltage.... when your bike sits there running the current is fine. But when you start it and ride then it gets over charged and blows up your battery.......
You can do what your saying in this video/ but when you put in a new battery and it does the same thing then yeh it's the regulator/ rectifier...
If it's fine with new battery then your right.
Good luck
2 things: 1) master kill switch/battery disconnect switch. Problem solved.
2) Cool to see a rider transition to full wet riding mode so quickly after those first few drops of heavier rain. Those first few minutes of rain can be killer, you should point that out to the newbies watching.
So how do you like georgia so far bro.
DIWD/YOU/C2W vlog!
My tach and speedo did the same thing on my R6. All it was, was a loose battery connection.
Man, thank goodness that thing didn't catch on fire... Glad you figured it out man. Why are you using lithium over factory? Just curious. I apologize in advance if you have already answered that question.
Cant wait for that grom build! Grrat vid tho ;P
Man I am glad your in Atlanta lol. You ride in areas that I know and am around all the time. Like the Kroger you passed in this video lol i live on Picketts Ridge, one of the neighborhoods you passed. Verses being in Austin when I’m not all that familiar with it and Houston because I am only there for work, I drive trucks, so it’s cool. Glad you got your bike fixed and it was only the battery!.
C2w wanted to put a lithium battery in the ZX10. Brian informed him in order to put a lithium motorcycle battery in a motorcycle that is not equipped with a lithium battery from the factory, you have to change out the rectifier/regulator on your bike to a rectifier/regulator that is designed to charge lithium batteries. The stock R6 rectifier/regulator is designed to charge leadacid batteries.
Interesting. Never heard that before. Not saying it's wrong (I'm not the certified mechanic lol), just weird that I've never heard that before.
Motonosity I'm no expert either. I just remember hearing it on one of the First episodes of wrecked bike rebuild with the ZX10. I would say check with Chase and Brian to confirm before you put another lithium battery in your or 6. It's just a suggestion. I would just hate for you to put another expensive lithium battery in your bike and have it fail on you again within a short period of time.
All a rectifier does is convert AC to DC via Half, full or bridge wave rectification and not allow current to flow backwards. Depending on the rectifier there will be some voltage lost and a difference in frequency. Your rectifier should be fine.
Did you mean "informed"?
Desert Fresh yes I did. I use voice typing and sometimes it fucks things up. I corrected it. thank you for pointing it out to me.
Would you pick the 2017 R6 or the 2017 cbr1000rr? Those are the two I’m trying to decide between.
neroknives I’d get the cbr man. I have a 2003 r6 and I love it but I’ve always loved the look and feel of the cbr 1000s
@Motonosity how many bikes have you had? Maybe a good video if you go through all the bikes you've owned and your favorite things about those bikes, then another about why you disliked and eventually got rid of them.
If i watched your previous videos, i could have told ya that lol. Been working with lithium batteries for a while. The reason you cant jump lithium batteries is because lithium batteries are very sensitive to how even the voltage is on the individual cells. So instead of normal batteries where your reg/rec charges with red and black, there should be a cell balancer between your reg/rec and battery. (if the battery doesnt have one integrated). So NEVER jump lithium batteries. And yes lithium batteries can explode if the cells get to uneven. So always keep an eye on those lithium batteries.
There is a lot of information about lithium based batteries, but if there is one thing to remember it's that they like a certain voltage range. Do your best not to go below that (if you do, baby it back up with a slow charge), and definitely do not go above it's range.
RC hobby batteries have a ton of simple and in depth write-ups online for more information on lithium based batteries.
+Motonosity Be mindful of deer as you ride through them trees. Beautiful scenery though.
At my skill level, I won't benefit from a Li battery. Thanks for the video. it will guide my future battery purchases.
If you ever have any electrical questions let me know I'm an electrical engineering student in Atl. and have made wiring harnesses before. I also do a lot in composite work, mostly on jet skis or some aircraft parts.
Awesome, thanks man!
If you are going to keep those DRLs, I don't see the reason on going back to the lithium battery. The stock seems like it would be a better/safer option. Less hassle.
My bike did that when the battery terminal broke lol ran for about 5 miles and then shut off completely. Had to resplice the wires and wrap around screw. Getting a new terminal today.
So these meet ups you have mentioned doing in Georgia.....when are these gonna start up and can they can they be on Saturdays or Sundays lol I’m 2 1/2 hours away in bama and I work till 5(6 Ga Time) at Autozone Monday thru Friday and it’d suck to not be able to go during the week.....please and that’d be super dope!
M@DM!K3
Yea, we racers in radio controlled car scene have dealt with lipos for a while and issues lol. Those need to always have at half a charge or they die. And they can dangerous when a cell goes bad or overheat. I've seen one that is only 3inches by 4inches burn down an entire garage. And the smell they give off can literally kill you..they are basically little chemical weapons lol
Why can u just keep the stock battery? What's so bad with it that u want a different one?
Look into WPS lithium battery they make a heavy duty one also
Will you be at scmm?
Afternoon showers are commonplace throughout the summer. Welcome to Georgia haha
I put new chain and sprockets and power was off so replace spark plugs and coil packs now got a engine light
Did you not notice a weird smell off your bike at all?
Ok, so should have watched more of the vid before guessing. But good to know since I have the same battery!
Why move from a stock battery? Yamaha seem to think it's ok
I’ll keep running the stock yuasa agm battery in my fz6r, 4 years old and still starts the bike perfectly, and don’t have to worry about my battery melting down. Not worth money and only saving 4-5lbs
Alot of people said in the other video that you discharged your battery too much.
well before you tell me id say a relay or a conection loose??
What up big dog that was a lot of good tips. But I got a short story with the question behind it I laid my bike down the first time cracked my crankcase then proceeded to JB welded everything was cool at first until I dripped oil from my crankcase onto my back tire it was just a drop ended up doing a fish hook when I got ready to take off and lay it down the second time got the new crankcase put it on put a little oil in and proceeded to try and start the bike. didn't get nothing no crank no nothing but I have power to my lights every time I press my starter button my headlights will go dim my tail light will get brighter none of the gears inside of the crankcase were damage at all but I did notice my battery was bubbling would that cause my bike not to start what do you think it could be I've been pulling my hair out dog trying to get around having to take it to the shop but the way it's looking I might have to.
Not sure if you saw my comment on your last video but I had the same issue on my r6. Had two shorais blow up on me. Don’t use them! My motor also blew at the same time the second battery did
it is bad also for the rectifier to pushstart the bike , offen they fail after that , they are going to reach a very high temp. , it is better to charge the battery before .
oh snap i also had that brand lithium die on me recently, almost burned down my bike.
no one pulled over to help me while frantically trying to get the battery out.
Was it literally on fire?
it melted my battery case with some black and blue smoke at first so i sprayed my drinks all over it, (cola zero and monster zero to the rescue) then white steam came out and lithium ooze running out. (was due to over charging)
atm i am trubble shooting why my voltage regulator will not regulate or just dies when i put in a new one
leason here for me is if running lithium it might be an idea to have a voltmeter somewhere on the bike like on a headlight wire to keep an eye on voltage
That might be smart. Makes me a lot more curious about that restart battery. It's supposed to avoid overcharging as well.
it will the battery is a good brand and all, there problem here was my voltage regulater murdering the battery. (ran mine for over 1 year even during winter when was freezing)
the volt meter will give me an early warning in the future so i will not over discharge or over charge it again if something fails.
Maybe that brand of battery just isn’t very good for lithium batteries?
Par acidic drain from aftermarket batteries is crazy 😜 you don’t want to put the oem ones back in that battery would deff be going back to whoever sold it
so your done with the texas meet ups orrrrrr wut lol was wondering if theres gonna be a txmotomeet18
Just watched your DRL install video again. Nowhere in that video do you connect to a circuit that isn't ignition controlled. Unless you made a direct battery connection without filming it, I'd say those DRLs are not causing a parasitic draw and it was just a junk Battery.
You could always put a mini inline on/off switch. Click, no parasitic loss.
I turn mine, but my prime doesnt turn on b4 i start it tips???
a noob question...does r6 default battery is lithium and not wetcells? TIA
oem is wet (lead acid)
thanks senpai..:)
But why putting in the Lithium battery in the first place, when this makes so much problems?
Off subject you coming to SCMM?
Never been a fan of LiPo batteries, I've had one swell in a cell phone and peel the screen from the body. In the RC world they are often stored and charged in fireproof bags, they can be temperamental. As you found out, they don't not like being completely discharged. I rebuilt an old RC Car few years back and went with the older NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) Batteries instead to avoid the LiPo caveats.
Still R3 with u ????????
Also, when is the R3 being given away?
It already was. Explained it all in at least 5 videos now. Shipping is being arranged.
Look up lithium ion cell phone batteries shorting out. It turns into a hardcore sparkler haha
woah,it might blow up under seat if u didnt take a look at it as soon as possible..i hope ur R6 wiring arent affected..
At least the bike gotta wash lol. Nice vid
Check speed cell lithium battery, have a quick disconect to keep your bike ready to go without a drain battery for almost one year.
Loose ground wire somewhere?
Help no spark on my fz6 2007
Get a few battery tender trickle chargers. Problems solved. Idk how lithium’s play with those though
