Yamaha R6 Wrap - 6 Months Later

It's been about 6 months since I did the vinyl wrap on my 2017 Yamaha R6. It's typically a lot harder to do a motorcycle wrap than a car wrap because you don't just have large, flat panels. It's a lot of curves, edges, holes, inlets, etc. The R6 was no exception. It turned out pretty good for my first time, but how is it holding up after 6 months?

Hey guys, I know a lot of y'all are expecting the Grom build today. Have had a bunch of stuff come up lately which screwed up the days that I schedule out for building and editing. Thanks for being so patient. I'm hoping next Sunday everything should be good to go. Make sure you follow me on Twitter where I always update you guys on the status of vids and such. Have a great Sunday!
Let's see that stretched grom smoking gixxers soon xD
For wraping the inch deep holes just cut the vynil at the edge, check how dirtbike vynils wrap around those holes, they're really hard to stretch in, or try using a little heat to help it to stretch.
@@carportmods totally. Go for it !
RiceFilmedIt Yes, you could start on a 300 but with your size it would be small and worse performance, an r6 would be great. I wouldn’t go with a liter bike because they have so much power that you underestimate it, once you get an bike just remember to respect the power it has and be responsible and know when your being reckless
Them tags look a little out dated 😂
Holy shit, that was 6 moths ago?!?! Time flies...
Just over 5
Brett Young ye
Aha, good play on words 😂👌
Motonosity it's not as bad as you think. Most people don't pay very close attention to bike like that. If you hadn't shown it we'd never know. Lol you did a great job for it being your first time bro bask in the glory of it.
I had to come clean haha. But thanks man
Vinyl wrapping is an art form in itself. You chose probably one of the hardest things to wrap for a beginner (a sport bike). You should be proud. Compound curves and pockets are tricky for even experienced wrappers.
I love the wide aspect ratio you film in, fills my whole iPhone 10 screen without zooming or clipping.
On other wrap videos I’ve seen I see them brushing some sort of adhesive compound on the really sharp grooved surfaces to keep the wrap from bubbling up like on your bike. That adhesive is supposed to clean up fairly easily if you decide to tear off the wrap.
Dope bike. U could try to use a sewing needle to poke a small hole to release the air bubbles n use a heat gun to shrink the vinyl back. Rather than peeling the side up to release the air bubbles. Hope that help to perfect your bike.
Dayumm that bike looks dope!
Your B rolls are worth dyeing for 💙
The lifting in the indentations is because you stretched in to the corners vs laying in to them. However, I don’t know how you would lay in to some of those - there are just so many contours on these panels. Great work overall, and much better than my first attempts on a motorcycle!
Now that you’re int the Atlanta area you should go see Dan’s guy!
Absolutely
Justin
He just rode Dan's H2 in the last video.
If you want to you can take a knife and cut a small cut in the airbubbles and then press the air out to get rid off the bubbles in the wrap
Did he mention how many miles the wrap has been through? Seems like basic info to include... 500 miles vs 5000 miles makes a huge difference.
Honda c50 restoration pliz
The wrap is still gorgeous
This kind of feels like a tattoo. Like you live with it and it looks fine, nobody notices anything, everyone compliments you on it. But damned if you're sitting there and one day you notice there's actually a lot of small errors (which is very common in a tattoo). Nobody notices it and it looks fine!
Couldn’t you plasti dip it without messing up the original paint? I know SALTxTHExWOUND plasti dipped a previous bike and when they sold it they just pulled it off. Still looked brand new underneath.
This guy recorded this in a 2:1/18:9 format? God bless you!! 👍
the frame sliders are scratched, did you crash the bike?
You could have plasti dipped the blue on inside
Wraps lasts longer afaik. I could be wrong with that 😄
just the inside where blue is still showing under wrap
Yeah true, could've done that
Please get a protection piece for the ignition cover?
Hit up Dan, see if he'll introduce you to Justin at Atlantic custom wraps. Maybe they could probably teach you some of the tricks of the trade while showing us an awesome "WRECKED WRAP REBUILD" episode. 🤔
11:42 looks sooo good
Is it possible to take of the blue fairings and just buy other colours??
@Motonosity are you ever going to start up Fitnosity or is it dead?
I'm from India and big fan of yours..!!
You can fix the bubbles by poking the bubble with the tip of a knife or a pin or something, then just run your finger over it.
Bike looks great man! More than an acceptable job for your first time. Ive worked a bit with 3M vinyl and 3M tint, the tension and cut angles are the hardest thing to get used to. I have not seen a ton of wrapped bikes, the ones i have seen tho tend to be 2 tone, most people wrap the larger flat pieces and cut a geometric shape around where a sharp angle or tricky fairing is. My ocd and perfectionism would be telling me the same thing, its good but i want it a little cleaner.... the trick i was taught for round indentations over a 1/2 inch deep that need to be wrapped was cut two opposing v's over the circle, >
I appreciate your efforts in typing so much.
Yo after a while of getting back on wasnt that r3 supposed to go to someone else?
You should try that plastic dip stuff then if it ever gets messed up just toss on new always wanted to try it
Cody Irvine it works well if you apply it 100% the right way. If you don’t it turns out shit. Just a bit of advice
I love ur cinematic shots
dumb question but is there gonna be a txmotomeet18????
All I saw was pure beauty, no dirt or anything
Is this a good first bike?
What's up moto just wanted to say/warn you with the wrapping. I wrapped my bike with 3m material and the adhesive was so strong it peeled the stock paint off when I removed the wrap and it sucked badly, so yeah be careful when you remove the wrap cause it most likely take some paint with. Just a heads up
Duude, did you drop your bike? I noticed the scuffed frame slider there as well....
Hey Moto... When you showed the half inch deep holes that didn't come perfect I was wondering if a heat gun and socket (with the same diameter as the hole would help wrapping it properly). Also let's talk about the little nick on the rear piece😬.
Man I worked those things forever lol. Just not enough material to go that deep.
@@motonosity giggidy!
@@motonosity that's what she said
I noticed the R6 is still registered in Texas and you are wearing a Texas Moto meetup 2017 shirt.
❤️ still in Texas ?
Looks really good for a first attempt. Now that you are in the ATL, I'm sure DIWD's boy Justin over at ACW can give you some pointers.
Wasn't he supposed to do a give away on the r3? Why hasn't that happened?
What if I got this for my first ever motorcycle ??
For me,
Your bike is so perfect sir. 👍
I had the same problems with my z1000 wrap. The XSR900 was way easier. The key I found with those problem areas is using adhesion promoter. It's like a soft tacky glue that 3m sells. It comes off easily when you remove the wrap. Or you could have it professionally done, unlike me you live in an area with shops that'll do it.
From what I'd heard, you really don't wanna use it if you don't absolutely need to so I wanted to try it without.
@@motonosity I heard a lot of that too, but if you want a super clean look it helps. I haven't had any issues.
did the R6 go down? I'm seeing scuffs on the right engine slider (11:09)
You did a good job man
Why don't you have Dan's buddy redo the wrap for you?
It's been just over 5 months
As much as I love the pristine white... GRAFFITI BOMB IT!
The sweat drop on your earlobe. I just wanted to flick it! Just have Dan take you see Justin at Atlanta Custom Wraps. I'm sure he could give you a ton of pointers. You did a better job than I would have.
You, Dan, and Chase should do a track day at Barber. Dan could use Laura's GSXR? Little middle weight action haha
Bro honestly, like for your first time u did hella well. Its been looking good for a while but obviously since the r6 has such weird lines its gonna pull up a bit. Good job tho fr
True that
Could you have used a bolt dress up kit to hild the vynil down in the bolt holes?
do you mind me asking what electric shift kit you have on your bike I see it upshifting flawlessly awesome bike, thanks ahead of time
Do you have a new po box there in Georgia now to send you stuff to?
in·den·ta·tion
The 2017th Variant has a Quick Shifter??
I love your R6 but I prefered the Yamaha Blue
Why is the right side slider scuffed up? did you drop it?
wheres the GPR damper
OMG bro. i love that mc. i always visiting there shop here in our country.
Dude could u plz make the bike louder. Take out that baffle, or if it is out, and is not making any difference, put it back in. Because I doesn’t sound that loud in the videos. If the bike is loud, then it might just be the microphone.
Great video
Good job on the vid man! Bike looks great still. Hope all is well.
I'm no wrap expert but if that was my first wrap id be happy. I had problems putting stickers on my cbr 😂
You, chase and dan need to go up to blood mountain and ride for a day. Would love to see a video about it!!!
Chase wouldn't be able to keep up xD
Mototzigane ever since chase layer holly down on blood mountain he won’t lean on curves. He loves speed through the corners but wont lean lmao
Mononasity, I have a first gen r6. What would be best to move to, new r6 or r1? R6 is nice but sucks on highway and lots of vibration.
Wow keren Motor nya
You should take it to the wrap shop dan works with a lot they’re amazing people and they do a hell of a job
I was thinking about the same thing !
But hey, Moto likes to do stuff himself *cough chase cough*
I like to do it when I can :) I also don't think they do motorcycle wraps
I was waiting for r6 video for forever.....
hey do you guys think a 2012 r6 w 54,000 miles for $2000 is a steal deal or nah?
You should definitely add decals
Thanks for sharing man! I learned some things and applied them to my project. Came out pretty good thanks to you sharing your exp. Thanks again!
Of course man!
Still a good job 👍😁
Dude it's 11:20 pm and I'm about to sleep but this came
Haha.. 9:00 here in India
11:28 am here
I miss Yamaha blue
My question is what you do for making money for yourself your bikes
It's now a 20/20. Looks good from 20 feet away when going 20 mph.
Are you ever going to get rid of those blue wheels?
Nice !
Love you and your work bro
But there is a white 2017 model....I don't understand.
Good job. How are you riding without rear view mirrors?
Super late but where’s that seat from?!
i luv my R6! from Thailand
Yoooooo brother there is a guy on CZcams called CKWRAPS he teaches how to wrap cars and motorcycle and he has a very good info how to wrap everything.
Yeah I watched a lot of his videos before doing it.
EXACTO KNIFE!!!!!!!
wait so you up shifted without the clutch ummm?
@motonosity where did you buy the wrap from ?
If you can go back or if you choose to re-wrap it again, would you go through a professional shop this time around?
Probably not. If I did do it again, I think I could fix some of the problem spots. And shops charge a ton for moto wraps
Do a galaxy wrap please
One advice : postheat the vinyl to lock it down to his new shape otherwise it will lift up
Why are r6 soo expensive in relation to cc's. You can get a litre bike for the price of an r6.
Why isn't he is shifting gears
You live this life, I dream this life! What a cycle of life ;(
Which Wind shield have you bought? Brand? Iam searching also an dark shield for my R6. regards David
You should try plasti-dip it doesn't have that adhering issue, I think you'll like the result better
what bracket did u use for the licence plate?
wrapping in my country done as cheap as 50 dollars, and by the hands of professionals.
Beautiful bike :)
so if you wrap a bike and change its color I presume you have to change the color of the bike at the dmv?
Why wrap in a color that's (near as damnit) available anyway??. And why swap an R1 for an R6 ???
@Rata 4U Ok dude. Riding a litre bike is awesome. Not stressful at all. Sounds like you're a little scared.... I much prefer the twisties on my R1 than my old R6.
